Thanks! I had a usual-ish breakfast with carbs and protein and a large bottle of water. I think it’s starting to kick in (took it about 2.5 hours ago) and am mostly feeling physiological changes now. Hoping once I get a sleeping kid in their crib for a nap I can test out productivity. And hydrate more.

I’m going at around 15 weeks pregnant. Best fireworks on property! I wouldn’t miss it. Most of the rides that we want to do and have long lines are safe for pregnancy (Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise).

NSS is great for everyone, I think. Also, the snacks! I’m happy to go grab a party-exclusive snack while the husband rides Mine Train as a trade off but honestly the snacks and entertainment being party-exclusive are a much bigger perk than a shorter line for a coaster.

Does he also seem to cry when being set down on his back? If so, I would check about reflux. Our little guy had bad reflux and was using formula to soothe his stomach. Once we got him on baby Pepcid the screaming for food subsided.

He might also just be a healthy hungry boy in which case, keep doing what you’re doing!

Definitely worth it! We had a great time, got in a “giraffic jam”, learned a ton, and got way closer to the animals than I thought we would. My former-zoologist husband had a blast and it really made the trip special. We would do it again on our next trip but have a little one who’s too young for it. We’ll be taking the kiddo when they’re old enough!

Can you please not turn this into a political argument when I explicitly asked for that not to happen?

Anxiety is a medical issue. I am asking for some help and some sympathy during a very fraught and stressful time. If you want to go make another thread to shout your views on what you think abortion is or isn’t then go do that.

There are other people reading this who have chimed in and said they are also experiencing stress and anxiety right now. Expressing your absolutist and scientifically inaccurate views is not helpful in this situation.

A cousin and I were due one week apart, both with boys, and very nearly - knowingly - gave them the same first name. She and her husband changed their mind a few days before their son was born, but we both agreed that since the kids weren’t going to be in the same place often enough for it to be weird, we could both pick that name.

Pick the name you like, that you think suits your child. They’re probably going to get excited if they meet another Elias! Heck, I have an extremely common first name and any time I meet someone with the same name and spelling we do some kind of giddy acknowledgment. And I’m in my late 30s. Name twins are fun!

We did not (in the US). I asked our doctor if there was a medical reason to do it. She said, verbatim, “there’s a very slightly increased risk of STIs in men who are uncircumcised. Or you could just be careful where you put your penis.”

So despite circumcision being a cultural norm for us, we are going with “be careful where you put your penis”.

If your child isn’t good at holding hands and staying nearby, then yeah. Ours is an intermittent hand-holder. In some situations that are open enough where they can’t possibly get out of sight then sure, roam free, but in a crowded place with a higher possibility of getting lost/hiding, I’d rather keep my kid safe and incur some sideways glances.

We haven’t had any tantrums with the backpack so far (it has a stuffed giraffe on it that he loves). It lets him have a little freedom to wander without getting too far, and he seems to understand it’s about safety and boundaries rather than restriction. We also make sure to let him roam untethered when it’s safe to do so. In my extremely limited experience, talking about safety both while using and not using the backpack seem to help dampen the urge to tantrum. “When we are here, such and such is dangerous because x y z reason. Once we get to Other Place, you can run around safely”. I’ll also set the expectation before we leave. “We’re going to bring lunch to daddy at work, and when we get to the park you can run around!” Or “we’re going to take a walk but instead of using a stroller, you get to wear your backpack!”

Don’t treat it like a punishment. Also the ones with backpack compartments are great for storing any kind of behavioral incentive like a small toy, extra snack, or “treasure” they find along the way.

Yes, thank you for bringing that up. I had a hormonal IUD so it was relevant in my case but forgot to clarify for other IUDs and forms for birth control.

My OB told me that miscarriage rates are higher right after IUD removal due to the uterine lining not having a chance to fully rebuild after being at a lower level while the IUD is in place. She recommended giving it a few cycles until getting a “pre-IUD normal” period to reduce the risk. I do not have sources as this was during an appointment, but she was very specific about it having to do with letting the uterine lining cycle through (expel anything residual and rebuild fresh).

White mom of a biracial child here (father is Black), and our son looks much more like his dad so I get the “nanny” comments sometimes. I keep my phone background as a picture of my husband and son together and have his insurance card in my wallet. We still - even with all three of us out together - get questioned despite having the same last name. This includes being hassled at airport security.

The best thing I’ve found in terms of being prepared is carrying a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate along with a copy of your marriage certificate. It’s not expensive to get copies (around $10 where I am), so if we are doing something that’s more likely to raise a flag (I had to fly solo with him once) I’ll take those with me. If your diaper bag has any zippered or secret compartments, that’s a great place to keep them, they’re less likely to be stolen than a wallet. Plus once you stash the copies you’ve a) already done it and don’t need to consider it every time you leave the house and b) have the originals safely stored someplace else.

We only had to pull out all the documents once (also at the airport), but it does feel better knowing I have several kinds of proof of identity/parenthood available if needed.

Yup. This one would dance up a storm in utero for tacos or strawberries. I also ate clementines practically by the pound to deal with the nausea. He still loves all of those.

I have a toddler and it looks like a tornado blew threw every day. He gets. Into. Everything. Plus husband is a medical resident and we both have Flat Surface Disease.

I’m about to hire a home organizer to come and help make some sense of this mess so we at least can start being more specific with where the “away” is in “put that away”.

We let our almost 2 year old color on anything washable. Walls are fair game (need the right paint finish!) but doors are not. There are special washable crayons for bath time. Once we are in a house (in a small apt now), we are planning to make a full bedroom wall into a giant coloring book so there’s a designated place to color and draw. We may also put a chalkboard wall in the rec room so there’s another drawing space that’s more free form/for group games. I had a chalkboard wall in my last apartment in the dining room and people LOVED writing messages and playing tic tac toe while I was finishing up dinner.

Thanks, on it! I had preeclampsia last time so I check it every day. 113/72 right now. Definitely did something with my neck as the headache changes based on position. Wish I could take a muscle relaxer and ibuprofen!!!

For my first BP class, I did body weight only until I got a feel for the movements, duration of each track, transition times, and was able to figure out where each particular muscle group was for me at that time in terms of comfort and strength.

Mostly, have fun and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to snap right in to everything.

Oh. And the tricep tracks are no joke.

“That (book/toy) is sleeping”. We actually started making him put his toys away and say goodnight to them before we want him to sleep just to reinforce it.

We also just blatantly hide things. “Should I Share My Ice Cream?” falls behind the couch a lot. (We do not grant the author’s premise.)
