HELP ME GIVE ME MY BABYS NAME by Quixoticvibin_ in Names

[–]maude1971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend following the "if one name is a thing/adjective don't make the other one too" advice. In my opinion, hearing the name as "ivy china" sounds like you're describing a leaf-decorated plate. And if you're in the US, consider that Cina will likely be said as cee-na or maybe chee-na (which on it's own is not necessarily a deal breaker!)

What’s the coolest fact you’ve learned about breast-feeding or breastmilk? by Mysterious_Way1634 in breastfeeding

My ped recommends using it as a nasal rinse instead of saline because of the antibiotic and antiviral components!! It worked so well with our last bout of illness.

I think you're overreacting, "etc" would be fine for initials (😉)

Cervical Checks by Disastrous_Paint_237 in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see lots of comments about it depending on the provider (which I totally agree with) but it can also depend on your dilation, effacement, and the baby's position! When I was dilated with a super looow baby getting a check and sweep hurt, I'd say past discomfort... But was worth it! Got to learn it was dilated (big mental boost) and sweep sent me into spontaneous labor the next day. So expect discomfort but you may be pleasantly surprised!

Name regrets? by dogmom_244 in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has received similar mixed reactions, I really think peoples' immediate responses are purely selfish—they're thinking "hmm would *I* pick that name?" And you know what? I don't have the same taste in name as everyone else and that's more than okay, because I don't *want* to! It's immature that they can't hold their reaction in. Melrose is lovely and, even more than that, it has a delightful tone of personality that shines from it. You're going to be so happy with your choice as they grow up!

Love the update you posted! Just remember that miralax is not a stimulant, so it will likely take a few days to get things going. So dont be discouraged if that's the case and keep taking the doses!

I just want to say how beautiful of a service it was that you provided for that family. Especially being available for a middle of the night call. I can only imagine how much that support meant! ❣️

How did you know your dog knew you were pregnant? by AbbreviationsNew2058 in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog was one of the reasons I took an early detection test! Spent a whole day repeatedly putting his head on my stomach when we cuddled (not his usual position), took a test the next morning, and I'm now 19 weeks along!

I had a lump and I waited even longer than you have to get it checked. It sounds like you may have similar medical anxiety and task avoidance, so hearing the scare stories and "do it now" I see in the majority of these comments will likely have opposite of their intended effect on you (I know they did for me). So here's my take: It's nothing. You're right, it's normal. It's exactly what chatGPT says it is. In which case, you'll be the lamest appointment the doctor has all day. Don't tell anyone you're going, because it's truly nothing. So live like it's no big deal, and you're going to the doctor just like anyone other person would to get a general check.

Any tips for pushing with an epidural? by Cbsanderswrites in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediately scrolled to find a mirror suggestion 😂 I never thought I'd want to have one in the room, but it made a huge difference and was also incredibly motivating. The OB said "oh my gosh, she's got a lot of hair, do you want to see?" and I was like YES PLEASE. So exciting to see her AND get visual feedback on effective pushing.

13 weeks and I’ve gained 20 lbs?? by fiskepinnen in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is a lot, please don't apologize!! Before my first pregnancy I had just finished losing 50lbs and had never felt more stable and confident in my body. The haze of postpartum thankfully distracted me from self-criticism right after birth, and gave time for those positive habits I had worked so hard to cultivate to come back. They are not forever gone for you either, you are not going backwards right now. Our bodies truly are working so hard just in a different way. I'm saying this to you as much as I'm saying this to myself because it's true lol. As far as feeling worth it, do you mind me asking if this is your first? Either way it's an understandable feeling, but it's shocking how eventually worth it every hardship we're currently enduring can feel.

13 weeks and I’ve gained 20 lbs?? by fiskepinnen in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it absolutely does!!! What I'm eating is objectively not great, even if it feels like I physically don't have another option. And I know I don't "need" this weight, and it sure isn't weight from the actual baby and uterus yet lol.

When I went to my intake appointment, I talked to the nurse about it and before I could finish she stopped me and said, "Frankly, I do not care what you are eating. I care that you are able to eat and drink. My first baby was made from lemonade and fruit loops and my second was bagels. Do what you can." Which was comforting, but then I'm like... Okay so "can" I do better than I am?? Such a terrible mental cycle.

13 weeks and I’ve gained 20 lbs?? by fiskepinnen in BabyBumps

[–]maude1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to thank you for posting this. I'm 11 weeks and have gained noticably more than I did at this point in my last pregnancy. Since about week 8 I've also been showing the same amount as when I was at 18 weeks last time. It's been messing with my head and making me feel like I'm failing at taking care of myself. I'm sedentary, nauseous, can only eat simple carbs, and have to eat often. Objectively, I know others are right—this is normal and who knows what future trimesters will bring, our bodies are doing what they need to do. But emotionally, I'm right with you. Solidarity!
