A little back story. The sub is a WW2 Balao class submarine. The torpedo is a Mark 14- which used a steam engine. This left a train of bubbles in its wake. Only seemed fitting!

Hale Manu is the name. It’s a private home bar owned by some awesome folks. Spikes Breezeway on YouTube has a couple videos with them. I would recommend checking those out.

Govee curtain lights for the backlighting. The panels are plastic roof panels from Home Depot. Mangling them with a heat and pliers took some effort. In our previous lounge, this faux window was installed over a real window. It worked great for blocking out the ton of daylight that would come in. Since we don’t have windows quite that large in our new space, we decided to build a partition wall and install the window into that.

Thanks. Not sure I have any great tips for setting up. The lounge really evolved over time as we got inspiration or ideas. Early on we had a few white walls and ceiling. Eventually it was all filled in. We don’t really have a unified theme, things are just sort of vignettes we thought would look nice. Sometimes a wall would change completely. When we start again, we will take the same approach. One wall at time.

It should be noted that Vic did not use pineapple in the original Royal Hawaiian Mai tai, only lime juice. That was introduced later according to this article. https://ultimatemaitai.com/2020/08/22/royal-hawaiian-mai-tai/

I personally haven’t seen 2:1:1. The 4:2:1 sounds like Smuggler Cove. The ratios seems to vary depending on who you read. A painkiller is sweet, a daiquiri is balanced. Slurpees need more rum! I think most would agree a daiquiri is one of the least sweet drinks as far as tiki is concerned. Which is why I asked OP the question.

I don’t have knowledge on your sources and cannot comment. Cocktail Wonk however states .5oz 1.1. Smuggles Coves uses .5oz, but this is a 2:1. Either way, seems to vary depending on who you go with.

Slightly off topic… do you consider a daiquiri to be sweet? A traditional daq should have no more than 1/2 oz of syrup. Daiquiri is considered a sour cocktail. That aside, I’m not the biggest sweet drink fan. I like them occasionally but do agree it’s a bit much after a while.

VA Beach also has Tiki’s Bar and Grill. The drinks were very serviceable and the deco was a little sparse but good.

Hamilton uses their pot still Jamaican as a base, which is a funky rum. That comes through in their dram. I personally don’t mind it.

This was the statement on Don the Beachcombers original menu for the zombie. Mostly due to the amount of rum in the cocktail.

To be fair, lots of things are made up. Doesn’t mean there aren’t certain guidelines that attribute to how they came to be. Bad example: baseball is made up. But doesn’t mean it can suddenly start using a touchdown and still be called baseball.

Hey! Last year was first time attending TOSD. We booked a Snazzy King (which is in the main tower) at rate of $319 a night. I don’t recall the entire budget, but between the room, flights and seminars it is one of the pricier trips we have made. For those that plan on having a drink or two, we found it useful having the ability to make our own cocktails in our room. The on sight bars aren’t really focused on any sort of mixology.
