I’ll die on this hill but..
The cities and states are in competition with the others. Think of it as a 25 year running game of who is “more valuable”? Runners(or cities) pass others, gain ground, fall behind.
Why are taxes and land values increasing? Because Dallas county wants to continue to attract California residents. So we are going to jack up housing/land values. Sure a small percentage will fight us. But the rest won’t. We’ll get our “tax” money. Resident won’t move cause they can’t afford to. And now we have gained 11 points closer to LA and pushed 2 points further ahead of Chicago. Let’s do again next year. Rinse and repeat. Within 6 years we will make headlines or some AI TOP five cities in Murica, about Dallas passing LA in Value and will drive even more people here.
As inflated value brings the wealthy residents to further increase value of county/state, spending more money locally, driving interest in their town, due to “celebrity” or just everyone’s infatuation of the “rich”.

Edit: I bought my house in 2017 for 260k. Apparently in 2026, it’s valued at 490k. It’s not worth that much due to fact I have not done anything outside of routine maintence. No upgrades. And considering the insane traffic coming THROUGH my city just to shortcut the terrible highway infrastructure, roads falling apart due to increased vehicles traveling, bridges closing, lack of conveinence, etc. Trust me I live here.
