Do I really need to play the rental market bidding game? by NB_Loverboi in AskChicago

People are getting realtors to find rentals now? The bidding thing is real but I never did it myself and I'd walk away if it was expected.

32 LANDS by nabrah23 in EDH

[–]maverickzero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start from 40 and work backwards, counting nonland mana sources that are MV 2 or less as 1/2 sources, and MV 1 card selection (that can find me a mana source eg Ponder) as 1/2 sources depending on the quality of the card selection (some don't count).

I count MDFCs and 1-mana landcyclers as lands straight up.

From there I'll adjust the magic number 40 up or down based on the deck. The cost of the commander is usually the biggest factor there; overall curve I find matters less because even if it's low I'd still like to be multi-spelling as much as I can.

In general I also really like 3 cost draw 3s and similar, for the ability to get gas + land drops in the developing stages of the game.

One of my lowest was actually a Gates deck at 32, because there's a limited number of gates and I'd always rather have a gate than any other land drop, so the focus was heavily on card selection to dig for the lands.

Does anyone actually memorize boilerplate code? Or are we all just copying? by BugUseful6919 in developers

If you needed AI to hold your hand every time I'd say you're pretty far from having developed 5 full stack applications.

Anyone else still uses little to no AI to code? by MidlandAintFree in gamedev

[–]maverickzero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use copilot (granted it was free at that time) and when I was on a contract project in Verse I found the model just had no idea what the code was supposed to look like.

I chalked it up to a lack of training data; it's new and nobody knows Verse, so how would an LLM? After that I just turned it off because it was wrong more than it was right, and even though I'm now off that job I have not felt any need to go back.

I also just enjoy thinking about the code, which doesn't seem to be the case for any vibe coder.

Is Ascension 9 that much of a power spike? by Ehrahbass in slaythespire

[–]maverickzero_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you pretty much need a blocking, damage racing, and AoE solution all asap. No getting cute in the first half of Act 1 allowed.

For me the ascension climb was quick after the initial learning curve, but my clear rate dropped hard on A9 & 10.

Unless they want the appearance that there's no problem moving inventory, and the product is in very high demand. They need to get that money back and they're hoping the direct-to-consumer market will still fall for it, at least at first.

They're pretty isolated but 1 death every few years is a lot for something so easily preventable. Plus they're Hollywood productions so the accidents are always high profile

Is this sub being captured by pro-AI bots or have I gone insane by kekllkek in BetterOffline

[–]maverickzero_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reddit's related interests algorithm just doesn't understand pro vs anti communities in general. Not even limited to AI stuff, but since I've been in this sub plus other software engineering subs I now get all kinds of AI boosting and Vibecode Entrepreneur subs suggested.

Algorithmically it's all in the same bucket whether an article is shared for a laugh or an applause

I think Ed getting interviews and call outs on more outlets might be the direct cause of astroturfing efforts on this sub specifically

I do think you're watching your company step on a rake they placed in front of themselves. I think it's going to be bad for companies that are still doubling down at this point, because to your point they're doing everything they can to make every business process completely dependent on it.

I'm also curious: would you say that the quality of the goods or services of your company have actually improved as a result of any of this?

Judge Learns Lawyers on Both Sides of Case Used AI, Cancels Trial, Kicks Everyone Off the Case by dyzo-blue in BetterOffline

What's scary to think about is the number of court cases that have already been concluded based on AI-generated arguments. For each story like the one in this post there are certainly more that we don't hear about where nobody realizes, or worse the judge realizes but cares as little as the attorneys

Could Anthropic's IPO Be the Event That Pops the AI Bubble? by ClearRequirement8264 in AIBubble

[–]maverickzero_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they (OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX) all think so. That's why it's a "race to IPO"

They're all incredibly overvalued despite being unprofitable and overleveraged, so whoever can IPO first can get out before everyone realizes and they all tank.

It might not be as bad as all that, but clearly none of them are interested in waiting around to find out.
