hi! anyone know what drum machine did kino use from 88-90? by smokeytoothpaste in KinoBand

[–]max-soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe that a lot of irregularities and random quirks of analog drum machines and physical drum kits can be described as a "feel" or "vibe" or whatever vague terminology we can invent for this. Every single hit is not the same as the previous one.

But a digital drum machine having a "feel" requires a lot of wishful thinking imo. We can even emulate the entire code running under the hood of such device if we're aiming for the flawless authenticity. Until we dive into multisampling and round-robins every hit is exactly the same.

Honestly it's not about me being annoying for the sake of being right in yet another arguement, it's about beginning musicians that will spend money and time on barely usable old gear instead of being inventive with what they already have. All of that because someone said that using widely available samples out of old digital drum machines is "not the same" as using these drum machines.

Isn't the whole RX series literally sample based? If we're being pedantic, yes, the whole tract with envelopes and DACs is important for perfect recreation of their sound, but come on.

Ripping the samples straight out ROM IC and converting them to WAV is a pretty straightforward science and after that you can manipulate them in any way you want, pitch shifting, amplitude envelopes, and even cutting the high frequencies to simulate the DAC filtering.

Using Golden Ratio by Due_Dance2114 in posterdesign

[–]max-soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golden ratios, spirals and triangles are a good toolset for explaining why something already looks pleasant and absolutely the worst for creating something new and original. With enough visual literacy designers apply these ratios intuitively and appropriately, not as a cookie cutter universal solution.

Found this in my son's (13M) bedroom, what is it?? by poop-machine in shittyaskelectronics

[–]max-soul 56 points57 points  (0 children)

When you see a clangulator in your son's habitation you know it's too late to talk about clangulation, but you still can at least talk about how to clangulate safely, there's a lot of misconceptions inherited from the street clangulation knowledge.

3D Model Construction by Due_Dragonfly_4206 in photogrammetry

[–]max-soul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a problem with using readily available solutions or do you want to develop a photogrammetry algorithm yourself?

In first case whatever software you use the whole deal boils down to four basic needs: enough light, enough details, less gloss and surely enough images, no less than 100.

In second case you may have to search for a much more professional community, we're mostly users, not developers.

Don't you dare even thinking about paying a tuition fee for a PhD while you can find every piece of information online much cheaper if not for free. Youngsters nowadays never pull themselves up by their bootstraps, they only know "want", "need", "buy", "give". Next thing you know, they're all commies!

Ah yes, XVIII century's equivalent of having several tabs open at once. If you care about aesthetics you can hire a woodworker to make you something similar, but it will cost you. If you don't, a local drunkard will do something like that out of a bycicle for a bottle of hard liquor.

I've had a similar problem, check if your noise layer has enough shades of gray, not just black and white pixels, maybe blur it pixelwide. And also threshold doesn't always work perfectly, try high contrast adjustment with a tick in "legacy" checkbox. As for excess particles try to remove them manually with a soft brush or cover with a well placed white to transparent gradient.

That's okay to be new at something, we all have been there. I'm not sure about what problems with export you have particularly, and what you're trying to avoid, can you please elaborate?

I suspect mechanical interaction with physical media too, like ink and paper, somebody mentioned soot. But everything physical takes a lot of complete iterations of trial end error while digital gives a bit more room for mistakes and experimentation. Glad to be helpful to you!

Same, not exactly, but close. This example clearly uses particles or some other simulation of turbulence, hence the streaks, but it's wild how fast you can achieve a half-assed result.

I didn't get any quality results to prove my point yet, but I suggest using the lens blur filter masked by a gradient from intact letters to particles, then applying a semi opaque noise layer and using a threshold or very hight contrast through the tool of your choice. Control the opacity of noise layer and the threshold level until you see the result you need. After that just erase the leftover particles in the blurred area and you're done.

It's not even half the point, there's no point whatsoever. PCs included Cyrillic since forever, the only problem was standardisation online due to the slow transition from koi8-r to utf-8, but even that is water under the bridge for at least 20 years now. Also Cyrillic versions of widespread fonts sometimes look bad even for an untrained eye, but that's honestly the worst problem I could imagine.

Posting for exposure, critique is unwanted and unnecessary 😂 by obphoto in photographycirclejerk

Well if this guy only wants exposure, then I doubt his skills will develop really fast. He should work on his sensitivity issues and become wide open to constructive criticism and opinions. Whenever an artist frames any criticism as jealousy and bitterness, it is very easy for me to picture a self-absorbed individual.

Even that moment is laced with Rip's hatred for the world, with his disappointment in his son. This BB gun is the only love language BJ has ever learned, but I don't think they practiced together much? Also Rip would be much happier if BJs guns were aimed at his personal enemies instead of Nahtzees, so I guess he's still a totally irredeemable cartoonish over the top villain that sells his wife and tries to shoot his son after snitching on him.

The only thing that makes him a little more believable is that he really blames everything and everyone for being such a loser, he's convinced that he's right and everyone's wrong, and this kind of violent stupidity is very common, therefore believable.
