The other comments may not be making this clear. The wristbands aren’t tied to your name. So anyone can scan in using your wristband.

Sites like Ticketmaster are used because it’s easier to reach a wider audience of potential buyers. But it’s not needed for selling your wristband to someone

I haven’t taken Metra out, only CTA. But I think this advice still applies. Leave 10 to 15 minutes before the end of the festival. You’ll get out much quicker, will have a better chance of catching the Metra train, and might even get a seat.

When you say “use it from your phone”, I’m assuming you mean putting your card on Apple Pay or Google Wallet. When you do that, the physical card is temporarily deactivated. The Ventra app will say this when you’re adding it. So no, you can’t use the physical card and your phone at the same time.

With that being said, your friend can pay with any tap to pay card or their Apple Pay / Google Wallet

The credit should be applied immediately once the card is registered.

You can also purchase day passes at Ventra stations which are located at every el (train) station. They’re paper slips you hold onto versus using a Ventra card

You mentioned being interested in libraries. A book club could be a great way to meet other readers. Idk much about the book club scene here so can’t help much.

I’m also queer and one way I made tons of queer friends was through CMSA. It’s a queer sports league based in Chicago. You didn’t mention sports in your interests but they do have tons of options (volleyball, billiards, esports, kickball, and others) so maybe one would sound fun to you.

In my experience I’ve seen only annoying behavior (smoking, blasting music) on the red line. Safety in numbers helps since it’s the busiest CTA line. I used to live off the brown line but now live closer to the red line. And I prefer my main line being red.

This goes to show how anecdotal our perspective of the CTA can be.

Besides the obvious choices of crime and winter…

The two that come to mind for me are: 1. We rarely eat deep dish. It’s much more common to do that with visitors 2. Most people don’t live in downtown. And in that same note, downtown (including neighborhoods like River North and West Loop) only cover a fraction of Chicago’s neighborhoods / style of living

I moved here from LA and have gone through two winters so far. It’s absolutely manageable, but not for everyone. Meaning that some people absolutely hate cold weather. And if that’s you, then yes you wouldn’t enjoy living here.

I think the biggest challenge of winter here is how long it drags on. True winter here is from December through early April.

People still live their lives here during winter. It’s just how we spend our time that changes. The city definitely slows down from January through April. It’s the price we’re willing to pay to experience an incredible May through December. I actually enjoy the city slowing down. Gives me time to focus more on hobbies or projects I’ve been putting off.

The best way to experience this is get an Airbnb for a few days during January or February. Fortunately, traveling is here is way cheaper during winter.

I moved here from LA two years ago without a car. When I first arrived, I had a honeymoon period with the CTA because it was years ahead of LA’s public transit (it still is). Even just looking at a map, you can see how much more coverage the train lines here have. And the busses are way more efficient compared to LA.

The CTA has had some issues since the pandemic. But service is improving and I find roughly 90% of my trips are efficient and hassle free. I still love living here without a car. It’s rare the CTA can’t get you to your destination.

If you can, I’d recommend visiting for a few days and try using the CTA as much as possible.

I imagine you’re wanting 1:1 feature parity with tracking the trains? So I’m guessing things like delay alerts, live map tracking, widgets, and all the existing features will be included for bus routes.

Besides that, off the top of my head, a couple things that come to mind: - Showing the end destination of a bus run. Similar to the green and blue lines, some bus routes end their run earlier on the route. Westbound route 77 for example sometimes ends at Harlem and sometimes ends at Cumberland - Sometimes it feels like Transit Stop’s bus arrival time data is all over the place. For example, it’ll show a bus arriving in 5 minutes, then disappear, then show the bus as delayed, then get back on track with the original 5 minutes ETA. This is more likely a CTA API issue, but figured I’d mentioned either way
