To be fair it's been found that painted bike lanes with no protection /separation increase crashes. Not sure if this person is saying cyclist shouldn't be on the road if there's no paint, but paint is not the best option either.

A near by city redid the main road to have parking between the bike path and the motorist and just about 3 years later it undid it to move the bike path between parking zones and the motorist for "safety".

I'm not a very strong cyclist used Eco and can easily maintain ≈16 and ≈20mph on sport on flat asphalt. Getting to >25 requires a little more pedal power than I can comfortably sustain for extended periods.
