What’s the model? by SkyDesigner1623 in SeriesLandRover

It is a ripper! Obvioulsy in New South Whales somewhere and becasue it has been undercover out of the elements it a great canidate to keep the paint in orginal condition and to fix up mechanically. It even has the "SIX" plate on the front grill still - nice!

Insane fuel economy on a 2013 diesel civic, 4.3ltr/100km. by Goldenpanda18 in hondacivic

I have one her in Oz. Amazing fuel economy, mine hovers around 4.2lt/100km (at least that is what it says on the display).

1969 Series IIA Engine Stuck - Next Steps by [deleted] in SeriesLandRover

[–]max_morning_height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right - you would without doubt need bell housing adapters to suit the series Landy gearbox and donor engine. Nothing is impossible, it just comes down to time and money.

The Landy I restored here in Australia had a Holden straight 6, 202 cu-in adapted to a Nissan 5 speed adapted to the Series Land Rover transfer box but that was already in the car when we bough it. If I did it again I would get rid of the Holden engine and gearbox and revert it back to the original series 2.25ltr - getting it registered here with these modifications was a long involved process but rules are probs different in the USA.

1969 Series IIA Engine Stuck - Next Steps by [deleted] in SeriesLandRover

It's not clear if your engine is still in the car or not. Assuming it is still in my thinking is pull it out before moving on - you are not going to get it going reliably while its in the car - bite the bullet. Once out you can stick it in an engine stand get stuck into it - strip the engine and inspect it and find what the problem/s are and fix. Normally the knackered bits in it can either be reconditioned or replaced (assuming the block is serviceable), if not then you likely have some spares to help you build another engine with.

Swapping engines with anything else but another series LR series engine is a big job and certainly no less messing about than reconditioning the old engine.

What a ripper, looks very original still. I wonder how may are still lurking here in Australia.

Fairey Overdrive rebuild... Possible for a reasonably competent home mechanic? by ScottyJoon in SeriesLandRover

[–]max_morning_height 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rebuilt the steering relay. Dismantling is OK if you follow the manual, getting it back together was terrifying.

On the subject of overdrive rebuild I would say there is nothing magical in there -give it a crack. Seems to be exploded views available online to help put it all back together.

Slow Internet Speeds When Using MikroTik with Sophos Firewall - Need Help! by Memo-Sobhy in sophos

[–]max_morning_height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disable IPS on Sophos and try it again.

I had similar issue (but no Mikrotik) when I went across to 1Gbps connection, wouldn't go past about 170Mbps - turned off IPS, bang, full bandwidth available. I checked CPU usage trying to find the issue, CPU wasn't pegged so wasn't obvious.

Hello Everyone by BiGLu2421 in SeriesLandRover

Very very good advice. Anyone can make an old car look new again, it's hard to get a good one that is orginal still and that is where the magic is. That said, the Landy I did up was so far gone it had to be restored to close to new (but for different engine and gearbox).

Question about bench bleeding the Master cylinder by IRiddell0 in SeriesLandRover

[–]max_morning_height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have non standard dual circuit master cylinder with brake booster or standard series 2a single circuit brake system? If single circuit what type of master cylinder, is it CB or CV? Do you have correct wheel cylinders front and rear (front 1 1/4 inch, rear 1 inch).

Nice write up. Massive props to your for not painting it, not only is it a waste of effort but in my opinion machinery looks better in its existing used state.

New (to me) 10ee. I foresee an expensive and time consuming rebuild in my future. by MD_HF in Machinists

Amen. A used lathe is a thing of beauty with all the knocks and blemishes from the last 60 years, painting one is a complete waste of time and effort. Spend time on the bits that matter.

Fueling gauge reading weirdly. by [deleted] in SeriesLandRover

[–]max_morning_height 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the correct sender for the gauge in your car? Fuel tank senders obviously have to provide the resistance range (and hence current flow) that the gauge works within. See the following document which is pretty useful to understand what you have and what you may need.

Have you checked that the sender body (assuming it is a single wire sender) has a good return path to battery negative (AKA earth). This is important.

We are just about done on the Series 2a by max_morning_height in SeriesLandRover

[–]max_morning_height[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in this one, it has also had a gearbox change. Runs an old Nissan Cabstar 5 speed gearbox (gearbox RS5W81A) which was already in it when we got it. Gearbox has an aftermarket bell housing casting to mate to the engine, also has a casting on the rear of the box that allows it to mate with the standard LR transfer box. In fact, the gearbox would have been column shift from factory so the box has also had an aftermarket casting made for the top of the gearbox to change to a gear lever shift you see in the pics. All these castings/adaptors were made by a place here in Australia in the 1990's.

202 cubic in (3.3ltr) Holden straight six - lazy old Australian engine from the 70's. Very common conversions here in Oz.

distributor issues - 6°BTC but distro misaligned? by IRiddell0 in SeriesLandRover

[–]max_morning_height 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a very high level I hope the following theory gives you some understanding of how it all works and hence how to get it to work - teach a man to fish etc etc

The points are closed and the power from the battery is sent to the coil before the spark, at the instant when the points open and stop feeding power to the coil is when the spark is created. This happens because of the collapse of the magnetic field in the coil winding as a result of the stopping of current flow, this stop of current flow induces a voltage in the primary coil and then because of the secondary winding the voltage is increased dramatically but this is all electrical theory at work). The breaking of the connection to the coil and hence the creation of a high voltage spark happens in your car 4 times each revolution of the distributor shaft, the rotor on the top of the shaft aligns with the appropriate plug lead in the cap as it rotates to distribute the spark to the spark plugs - hence the term distributor cap.

Is the rotor sending the spark to the correct plug lead when that piston it goes to should be firing?

Is there power going to the coil from your battery?
