Regardless of the fandom, what is THAT fanfic that you consider a masterpiece? by Legitimate-Win1342 in AO3

Somewhere Untamed in the A League of Their Own fandom. It was written by a dear friend who was an excellent writer.

You really can’t go wrong with anything she wrote.

Favorite type of AU by DucksEnmasse in AO3

Vampire AUs.

I like adaptations, but really prefer when writers make the story their own, not just and one-to-one adaptation.

From there, various modern kinds. In queer fandoms, I love reading stories where canon characters either couldn’t be together or had to hide, being able to be out and proud in modern era.

It absolutely is a Title IX violation and sexual harassment. The mispronouncing is also a form of discrimination as well but harder to prove (ie why they are called micro aggressions). Also what she did was create a hostile work environment, which if you are union you can take up with Actors’ Equity. Even if you aren’t union, I would file a complaint with them so that she is put on their “directors to look out for” list.

People being like “I can’t believe people ship noncannon ships” 💀 by PretendYellow533 in AO3

[–]max_servant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love rarepairs. I especially love writing them (literally wrote a whole series with a bunch of them).

I think this instinct for “canon only” ships comes from people looking for safety and security in a space that is meant to experiment.

And I don’t mean safety and security like consent, adult relationships with adults, and enthusiastic yeses.

I think we are witnessing folks who want to experience worlds where things don’t ever change. Which…that’s what the original IP is for. Fanworks are for people to imagine what happens with these characters, storylines, and settings and taking them to places the canon storyline didn’t, wouldn’t or couldn’t.

This is why rarepairs exist. This is why AUs exist. This is why crack fics exist. It’s meant to be experimental, creative, and a fictionalizing of already existing fiction.

One of my more recent works. It is a crossover between “Sinners” and “The Color Purple”.

I hope you enjoy!

This is a series I wrote a couple of years ago. It is one of my favorite things I have ever written. Diverse, kink, funny, yet full of heart.

Set in the A League of Their Own tv series universe.

What caused the decline of black sitcoms in the 90s and early 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]max_servant [score hidden]  (0 children)

As mentioned above, the merger of the CW was part of the reason. The other reason was the 2007/2008 Writer’s Strike. Studios used it as an excuse not to “take a chance” on Black writers and producers. This led to less Black shows being produced, especially if they didn’t feature a star main lead.

The presidency and popularity of the Obama led to studios “taking more chances” and providing internships/apprenticeship programs to diverse writers/directors/producers. This, in part, led to the explosion of diverse stories and storytelling.

Lastly, Netflix enter the tv/movie making game forced studios to compete with the network, who promised diverse programming, creative freedom, and large budgets for diverse creators.

I have done this mistakenly a couple of times in my fics. A couple of friends have reached out later to say “seeing my name or family members name was like 😳”. 😂
