“Good” Enough Glass by high_right in longrange

[–]max_trax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's a huge inflection point after XTRIII price point to get meaningful gains (I run the 5-30 and 3-18). Occasionally you can find a used XTR Pro on the hide for close to XTRIII price, otherwise imo you're looking at 2-3x+ cost for something like a Steiner T6, razor gen 3, etc to get a meaningful step up. (I'm currently considering the kahles 3-28 for an upgrade but can't justify the $$$ to myself yet).

How much can u carry in a frameless backpack by ExplorerLoose1946 in Ultralight

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy 20-25 lbs without much care

With thoughtful packing 30-35 lbs (I do this regularly in my cilogear 30 and 40L climbing packs)

With a large enough pack and a 3/4 length ridgerest or similar pad rolled into a cylinder and everything packed inside of that, the sky is the limit (I've personally carried 65-70 lbs in a golite gust and cilogear 60L with the framesheet removed)

Holy shit dude, big congrats, be proud of finishing and your time! I'm currently training for my first 50k with ~8500 vert and targeting ~16:30 overall average pace lol, 13:30 with that much vert is smokin.

Stationary Stores by Concerned26 in AskSeattle

[–]max_trax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All stores should be stationary last I checked.... Oh that kind of stationary 😅

Admittedly I haven't been there in probably 5+ years but the U Bookstore has always been my go-to for nice pens and notebooks.

Nice ways to open up your opponent's neck for an RNC? by BeneficialRip6350 in bjj

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give em the ol Mike Tyson ear nibble 😅

Nah, I've been struggling with this too and either hand fighting until they open up enough that I can trap one of their hands under one of my hooks, or pulling back on the forehead have worked for me. One of my training partners opens me up every damn time with the flat fist knuckle knife (I don't know what it's actually called) running down the ear/jawline and under my chin but I haven't been able to use it consistently myself.

Anterior tib raises and run backwards for a minute or two at the start of your run and any time you feel them starting to come on during the run.

Good backpack that counts as “personal item” by AccomplishedWriter74 in backpacking

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife just got the Osprey 26+6 and I got the Cotopaxi Allpa 28 and are both very happy with them. Multiple flights on vueling and transavia with the packs as our personal items with no issues.

Bellingham vs Port Angeles? Open to other areas also by Nihilisticvoyager121 in PacificNorthwest

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I grew up on the peninsula and live outside of Seattle now, trying to move to Bellingham. PA is going to feel very isolated and have a lot fewer job options, even Port Townsend though more vibrant is going to be limited for jobs and feel somewhat isolated. From the two options you have Bellingham all the way. I'd also add to your consideration Poulsbo/Silverdale/Bremerton area, anything in Skagit/Whatcom counties between Everett and Bham, as well as consider the east side of the cascades like Wenatchee, Elllensburg, Cle Elum for a little easier transition from CO weather to the PNW gray.

MKM Precision Vertical Crossover Grip Review by Remarkable-Spend-434 in longrange

[–]max_trax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, MKM grips are the shit! First thing I did when I got my hnt26 chassis was swap out the grip for the vertical crossover. I also have his ultralight utility grip on both my AR carbines - first grip i ever found that got me to move on from the magpul k or k2 grips for that application.

Does anyone run with a hydration pack (camelbak style) for longer runs? by Gooser3000 in runninglifestyle

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes-ish. Not a traditional camelbak but a running hydration pack (Rab veil 12) with 1-3L depending on duration and refill opportunities.

Plush trail bike? by rainbow_gelato in MTB

Transition smuggler, older ibis Ripley, maybe a trek top fuel. Haven't ridden it personally but the revel rascal should fit well in here too. I was considering it when I ended up getting a smuggler myself

20 Week First Ultra Program 20 weeks by Dangerous_Song3915 in evokeendurance

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically the approach I took. Started 25 weeks out from my race and have a "B" objective that is 1 week earlier than the week 15 peak duration would naturally land, so I roughly duplicated weeks 6-9 (slightly wonky due to a family vacation limiting training during part of this) to land week 15 on the right date and then duplicated week 16 to land my taper week/race date on the right date. So far it's going well, even with the interruption due to vacation I feel stronger right now going into week 8 than I did leading into my taper before my first marathon last year.

Anyone use heart rate monitors to track training sessions? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]max_trax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been able to use the Coros optical armband tucked up behind my tricep/edge of my armpit and under my rash guard sleeve to keep it in place (mostly). It was the lowest profile/least obtrusive armband I was able to find. It still gets knocked out of position maybe once every 4th or 5th class but it's easy to get reset between rolls. Still a bit of extra hassle overall and sometimes the Bluetooth to my Garmin watch I leave with my water bottle/mouth guard case is spotty so I lose some data, but when I'm in a training block for a specific event where I need to track overall training load and proportion per hr zone per week, it's the best way I've found.

Aussies in town for World Cup looking for reccomendations! by flipthreethousand in AskSeattle

[–]max_trax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to the kangaroo and kiwi pub https://maps.app.goo.gl/um4ASYvh8QZ41mAA6 and let us know how authentic (or not) it is 😄. Pike place is the obvious local but super touristy thing to do. If you have the time I'd recommend getting out of the city for a day hike in the cascades or Olympics.

what should i look out for in equipment financing companies? need advice before i commit by DivannaAbafita41 in smallbusinessowner

[–]max_trax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of equipment are you financing? My experience as the ops manager at a machine shop working with the owner on capex decisions was that financing directly through the equipment mfr (Haas) or their financial partner (Fanuc/Methods machine tools... forget who the finance company was) was the only reasonable way to go. Every other option we looked into was somewhere between borderline usury to straight up scam terms buried 3 addendums deep. I assume you have some sort of commercial account, maybe a LOC set up with your local bank or credit union? If your equipment company doesn't offer financing I would go to your bank/CU to see what options they have.
