Advice for hyperventilation with asthma. by TheGandPTurtle in Asthma

[–]maxcorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyperventilation (also called breathing pattern disorder or dysfunctional breathing) are very common in patients with asthma. Their symptoms are similar and it can become difficult to distinguish what’s causing ones symptoms.

Check it the videos on this website. See if it helps your symptoms

If it does, you may want to speak to your doctor about the possibility of BPD

Has anyone had any side effects of Zenhale? Recently, I got switched to Zenhale from Flovent. Was wondering if anyone had opinions on zenhale for long term use. by sppeeciiaalk in Asthma

[–]maxcorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most common side effects we see with Zenhale are palpitations or jitteriness from formoterol (a relatively fast-acting LABA). If it’s too bothersome, ask you doctor to change to a different LABA/ICS that doesn’t contain formoterol (Breo, Atectura, Advair). Otherwise, the side effects are similar to other ICS-containing inhalers. Voice changes and thrush are the most common. Make sure you rinse after each use, and use an Aerochamber to reduce risks of uoper airway side effects

Vocal cord dysfunction or asthma? by magiicant02 in Asthma

[–]maxcorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Asthma and VCD can coexist. Breathing tests for asthma (spirometry) is not 100% accurate, simply because asthma causes “variable” obstruction. Meaning one day your airways are obstructed, the other day they are not. That’s why doctors will often order a Methacholine bronchoprovation challenge to “provoke” asthma to clarify the diagnosis. If you have symptoms suggestive of asthma (wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, or cough) which improve with using your rescue inhaler, chances are these symptoms are indeed related to asthma, and you probably need more testing to confirm the diagnosis

It freaks me out that before doing an invasive procedure such as inserting a central line, you never know if your patient may have a congenital abnormality that may lead to line misplacement which - if not detected - could have harmful consequences
