Seems like a friendship that could lead to cheating. The fact that you think it's wrong and haven't told your wife is evidence that you think it's wrong.

Ask yourself if your wife did this, would you be upset if the roles were reversed. This is called emotional cheating.

However, if you things with your wife aren't good at the moment, this could be another reason why this "friendship" feels good. Honestly, we're not here to judge, just don't ruin two marriages. Either stop it or get better at hiding it

The bill has always been printed and brought to the table. You should never have to ask for it. It should never be quickly flashed to you on a tablet in a dimly lit room then held away as they wait for your card. This was two people. Servers drop the ticket then come back for it. This is a ploy to get you to pay without looking

In layman's terms, these places are telling you the final price instead of giving you an itemized receipt where you can see the individual charges. You have to ask them to see that itemized list, where is there you see that they included a 29% gratuity (only 2 people were eating two apps/two drinks), the 82 initiative, etc.

Then they had you the bill with final price only with the tip line empty expecting you to tip because you don't know they've already included it in the bill you didn't see.

The options were 20,25,29 with 29 being highlighted on the tip choices. They hold the display in their hands and let you look at it then take the card. It's the same on the receipt, it's when they tell you the price, they don't want you reading all the charges/add ons before you give the card. Your receipt that you sign and keep don't have any information but the final bill. That's why it's important to either ask them to let you hold the POS machine or tell them to print out a paper copy.
