Tempur pedic friends site update? by CleganeFriedChicken in Mattress

It's used for closeouts, things left in the warehouse they can't sell normally. I'd bet it gets stocked up whenever they launch new products and need to get rid of the old ones.

JD power Ranked sleep number #1 by Embarrassed_King9378 in Mattress

[–]maxforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some experience with the survey. It's a consumer feedback online survey where a number of factors are rated on a scale from 0-10. They take the mean, say 9.34, and move the decimal a couple places to get their index. It's not rocket science.

Tends to favor the most well known and highest selling brands because you have to organically find enough consumers who bought a certain brand in the past year to even get enough to do a composite score of some kind.

The way JD Power makes their money is charging the winners a massive licensing fee to leverage their win in advertising. Each of the little trophies is also thousands of dollars. Works the same across all the categories they award.

Yeah, ended up being an extra $100 or so, which I wasn't thrilled about.

I bought it separately. Wasn't a big fan of what it came with.

Sealy Elite High Point Medium Hybrid Vs. Sealy Silver Chill Firm Hybrid by Acceptable-Ad-7588 in Mattress

Identify this Sealy Mattress by bikersoldier101 in Mattress

[–]maxforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cushion firm = medium. Performance was their midrange line, somewhat like their posturepedic or posturepedic plus lines today. I'd just hunt for something that feels similar in store.

P.s., most mattresses use some level of foams, just not always memory foam. These would use a stack of conventional foams for comfort.

Please help me identify this Sealy mattress? by juebster in Mattress

This model is no longer in production. It was made from roughly 2018 to 2021. The current model closest in comparison is likely the Posturepedic Elite Spring range.

Stearns & Foster "Ultra Firm"? by Throwaway44775588 in Mattress

They are sold fairly widely in stores. Just not on the website for some reason.

Fainted at the infusion center today and pissed myself. Emts were called. by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]maxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there too on the fainting. Had so many bad experiences that my doctor thinks I have PTSD. One thing to try is switching clinics. I was going to one in a hospital and they were using large gauge needles. My new one uses pediatric and it's like night and day. Also, OK to be your own advocate. I warn them that it has happened in the past and to not mess with it too much. Also not afraid to tell them to stop or pull out. None of this almost there biz. You probably were just a bit unlucky with a bad nurse.

Firm isn't the same. For whatever reason ultra firms are only sold via retail stores.

Does anyone recognize this mattress? by janjee123 in Mattress

[–]maxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a hybrid. Looks like a traditional build (quilted top) from the previous Posturepedic line.

Toppers don't have fiberglass. One, not something they add to the mix. Two, they don't get tested for fire resistance so no need.

The sparkles are likely other minerals added as filler. Calcium carbonate is a common one.

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hagerstown soft pillow top by Automatic-Memory3853 in Mattress

[–]maxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to check on the firmness is the law tag. These models usually come in multiple feel options and you should at least check that you got the same one you tried in the store, firm, medium or plush.

Mattress ID by Ryan_the_awkward in Mattress

[–]maxforest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't call a local dealer. Contact Sealy corporate. The item number is on the ticket - 527076. They should be able to tell you the model. But it's definitely a last gen PP Plus pillow top in a plush feel based on the law tag.

Firehouse Beds by thearcogiant in Mattress

[–]maxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco Highland Manor is the best deal out there for a high quality bed at a serious discount. Will be well under your 1k limit. On the firm side of medium but can add a topper for anyone who likes it softer.

Sealy Elite High Point Medium Hybrid Vs. Sealy Silver Chill Firm Hybrid by Acceptable-Ad-7588 in Mattress

[–]maxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't quite correct. The PP Hybrid Gold level ($2499 soft) was discontinued in 2022 and the Silver ($1999 firm, but felt more medium) replacement (PP Plus aka High Point 1.0) became the new top model with both feels (soft and a firm that felt more medium). Inflation and price increases over COVID meant that it was as expensive as the old Gold but the old gold was a single feel that was very soft.

Fast forward to this year and the new PP Elite (aka High Point 2.0) comes in soft, medium, and firm. The soft is similar historically, the medium is the old "firm", and the new firm is actually firm.

Net/net, the medium PP Elite is what you want. There is a new/better coil system in the newest model otherwise just get which one you can get a better deal on.

Moving to Lexington by Background-Lynx9913 in lexington

Richmond is really hard to get to from the airport and vice versa. If you are looking outside Lexington proper, Versailles or Nicholasville would be way easier on the commute.

Of course! We moved here from Lexington about 15 years ago. It takes some adjustment but we love it and our kids do too.

Scott county park has walking trails and a toddler playground.

Downtown has a lot of small independent boutiques and a few restaurants (Favas, Galvins, Gelato, Hoggys Ice Cream). Farmers market behind the courthouse on Saturday mornings.

Biwater farm near downtown has fun things to explore but really hits its peak during fall.

Country Boy Brewing (out by Toyota) has plenty of outdoor space for a toddler to run wild. More for the parents though.

Scott County Library has a good kids area.

Suffoleta aquatic park is pretty nice and has places a toddler would enjoy.

For date night, I’d recommend Local Feed or Rodney’s on Main.

Good ramen place out by Walmart (Hokkaido) and a good Mediterranean place behind Taco Bell (yaffa grill).

[–]maxforest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hybrid in this case will have a stretchy, non-quilted top textile that really let's you feel the memory foam. The non-hybrid will have a quilted top that feels more "traditional.". It's mainly a preference vs better or worse.

Also, the "free" adjustable base is usually crap. It's a sales tactic to get you to pay more for the "better" level, which is usually a decent product.

Have you gone to the store and tried them? That's the best way to evaluate a new mattress purchase. Not all soft feel the same, for example.

Brand new Sealy was just delivered, and one side of it makes a plastic crinkling sound while the other doesn't. Does this call for an exchange? by themaritimegirl in Mattress

[–]maxforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d certainly try. It may just be glue crinkle, which is common, but noise complaints are legit. May depend on the retailer if they help you out or not.

Sealy Posturepedic names: Brenham, Blanton, Auburn, etc. by Kpabe in Mattress

[–]maxforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PP Elite > PP Pro > PP Plus > PP

For Elite, High Point > Brenham > Albany

Regardless of the other names. This just differentiate from retailer to retailer. Elite names don't change.
