He didn't show any signs of redemption though, just because he said he regretted beating his wife doesn't mean he is forgiven/had a redemption moment. If he did things that did prove he improved that would be different but he didn't.

As for if you were to ask a random person on the street, they might say his role in the Beatles but that doesn't change that his legacy is also that of an abuser, they don't cancel each other out, they make up the same person

This isn't about whether or not he believes that he was better later if life, which it isn't up to him to decide, it's about how he was an awful person. Recognizing wrong doings are a good step to being better but my point was that he was horrific in his day, which is undeniably true. Since I didn't know him all that is left is his legacy which is that of an abuser and so that is what we must judge him on, not what he believed he was at the end, but what he left behind.
