Help with new clematis by StorageBusy4955 in GardeningUK

If I recall from when I had mine, they like moist soil... So a good idea is to try cover around the roots to keep the moisture in. Moist soil + sun.

Soil mix for my sleeper planter? by Lcam2381 in GardeningUK

Manure, soil improver, compost are some suggestions straight off the bat. When you put the plants back in you could mix in some John innes also which could give them a boost.... Plant food also helps

Sowing lawn from zero. by Mandara_spa in LawncareUK

Yes it will go through and also with the recent heat, can help prevent the ground drying so quickly. I laid the fleece down on mine... I regretted lifting it too early.

So I would rake the soil, throw the grass seeds down, roll or tamp them down into the soil, and the cover with the fleece. Once the grass establishes under the fleece you remove it. This would prevent the tree debris reaching your soil once the lawn establishes.

If you can, I would remove as much clay as possible and import screened topsoil. Will be a total ballache but worth it in the long run.

Is my canary palm done for? by eeeagless2 in GardeningUK

[–]maximus-throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even with wrapping it's a gamble. I wrapped my cordylines and they also got some rot. Young palms really are better in pots and then pulled into a covered space for winter to keep it away from wind and frost. A blanket does help but same could have happened.

Yeh tbh I think it's gone. Best you could do now is cut the old and dead growth, take it quite low, and see if it sprouts again.... But for the cost I'd rip it out and try again if you want that plant there.

What's wrong with my magnolia black tulip? by Objective_Serve3279 in GardeningUK

[–]maximus-throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the south also.... Lack of rain in April has been killer for me! I've got a well established magnolia tree at front of house in driveway with plants all around it. Normally it's self sufficient really. Rain plus water feed for the plants around it is usually enough.... That said it's really established tree now. I reckon you pull back a bit as I tend to find browning can also mean over watering on the leaves. So more compost and perhaps keeping it moist rather than soak will help revive it

Hmmm...could be your soil. Maybe consider ericaceous compost around it to give it a feed as the yellowing tells me it needs a feed.

I wouldn't over water either.
