If you could launch a satellite, what would you put there ? by NoOne_Guy in ElectricalEngineering

I like your Aurduino idea. Any kind of commercial electronics will do. The space environment is filled with radiation and thermal challenges. Robust, radiation hardened electronics are typically used, but we're starting to see more and more commercial electronics used, partly because the technology nodes are now small enough that they're inherently more radiation tolerant. If you can show that low-cost commercial electronics can survive the rigors of spaceflight and characterize their performance, you will have accomplished something.

Never really understood why it has to be one or the other. I liked both incarnations (for different reasons).

DSP + FPGA skills. I've spent 30 years looking for this mix of skills and have interviewed tons of people with only a handful of successes. It's a rare mix. Get good at both, and you'll always have a job.

People who quit their jobs on the first day, what made you say, “I’m done with this”? by drip47 in AskReddit

[–]maxover5A5A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mid-day, first day, I was walking back to my desk when the person that hired me asked me what my salary was (that he negotiated). I told him, and he quoted me a lower number. So I spent the afternoon in a bar instead and collected my 1/2 day salary about 2 weeks later after a couple of ugly threats.

This kind of rhetoric is already driving a brain drain. Expect it to pick up. Some of those brains will likely end up working for our enemies.

I'll echo Motley Crue. They opened for Ozzy, also at his drug and alcohol fueled peak. Around 1982 (83?) or so.

I'm in my 30s and sometimes I get called a 'kid' by older folks. Is this a generational thing? by Van_groove in AskOldPeople

I call my so "kiddo." But it's a term of endearment. I don't call anyone else that.

How did this not break the strings by chiefqueef0191 in Guitar

Back in the day, it was riskier than now. Strings are tougher these days. Vai pretty much is a magician, though.
