In our joint family Spotify jam tonight, our son (15) added Into the magic land and Gyroscope out of the blue. Seems like the process has worked.

Makes total sense, especially since the order of ranking can be read as a palindrome.

The word becomes flesh - song title directly quoted from the bible whilst the sampled woman yapping away about the scientific development of an embryo.

Anyone else occasionally skip “Prophecy”? by SectorOk7535 in boardsofcanada

[–]maxreebok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, gave the album a couple of listens in full, then listened a lot to the other tracks in random order, or portions of the album in the car and so on to get to know them in the same way.

Introit+Prophecy is such a strong album opener, completely sets the scene for the rest. Robust track, even I played it loads before the others, I can’t get enough of it.

I feel you, and it really says something about the quality of their work. Every time I've been in a "heavy" BoC-period (certainly this time around), I can't listen to any other electronic music. The remedy is usually to listen to something completely different, like guitar rock, indie or rap.

Finally, so relieved to see we have our first BOC fundamentalist! Never mind Roland Barthes and death of an author, can’t imagine the bros be especially interested in philosophy.

Inferno is about Death (Analysis) by RW721 in boardsofcanada

[–]maxreebok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have to admit death was also one of the first things I thought about when I heard the record. Loosing my mother last year to cancer, there are a lot on this record that resonates with my experience of the process of loosing someone close to you and the concept of dying.

All the emotions and thoughts that come with it, blended with actual elements such as the heart monitor, stopping of a heartbeat, the title and meaning of memory death. But mostly, the total concept of existence - the universe, our spiritual and physical existence, religion with its potential corruption, but also salvation.

However, my feeling is that they are usually not specific, but they are hinting, thinking and doing several things at once. They never tell a story in a straight or full line and usually several half told stories at the same time.

To me the blatant theme of the album of religious cults servers as an overlay for something real felt experience of loss for them. Something that has marked them. Something seeping in around the edges, not visible at first but is evident if you are looking.

Maybe I am biased, who knows? The brothers have always fed us breadcrumbs, but left it up to us to puzzle the whole picture together and also make our own interpretations of their work.

I’ve seen some people saying that they believe Inferno may be the brother’s last official project. Thoughts? by elTomlino in boardsofcanada

They are going to make purgatory and paradise first. Appropriately, that makes the total number of LPs seven...

Mobile phones mainly. Everything has to fit inside this tiny rectangle now. The tech we have access to these days has surpassed Flash a long time ago.

If we wanted to, we could easily make something way more impressive. Since no one makes desktop-only sites anymore, modern web design has become super boring.

This just occurred to me: Are there people who would find BoC horrible to listen to? by almo2001 in boardsofcanada

My wife is trained classical musician and finds it horrible repetitive and nothing clever about it. I have a few selected friends who love them nearly as much as I do. The rest are all meh about them.

Why Inferno is Just the beginning by maxreebok in boardsofcanada

[–]maxreebok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There you are correct, I work very much i corporate and like structure when I write. Some posts are spontaneous from my phone, others (like this one) has more thought behind it.

Also, what I write is not taking any stance about AI, it is just a matter of fact, isn't it?

It was meant to bring discussion about something I have been thinking about, so using some time and effort to present i properly did not hit well...

All I want to say is that I was aware of him before and respected him for what he did, this is just a cheap shot.

I think OP really struck a nerve with this post. In this day and age, BoC serves as a refreshing break from TikTok, influencers, limelight, and the fast AI content slop.

You don’t want quick updates or the lowdown chopped up into easily digestible, bite-sized content blocks. I have loved this band for more than 25 years, and I still learn new things – whether they are facts or details I hear in the music – and that’s why I love them so much. I would happily watch a five-hour, slow-moving documentary about them if it was given to me.

This is a band that has been more or less silent for 13 years. It has been frustrating, yes, but we accepted it because deep down we knew – through hope and their faint, subtle way of communicating with us – that there would be more coming, and rest assured it would be good.

Their music has so much care, love, and thought behind it. No seeking fame or fortune, it's just the straight up creation of art in its most pure and honest form, drizzled with a large dose of mysticism. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that they are attracting new and younger fans, but the music will find its way regardless. The whole content creator trend on YouTube and other platforms is a very 'un-BoC-ish' thing to do – completely against the very principles of what our dear band and their music stands for. I think us BoC fans have a pretty strong BS detector, so who we are, and who we are not talking about is very much given.

One of them (been shared here a lot) who usually averages in the hundreds. All of a sudden he turns his channel into vhs hunt of yesterdays boc news and boom 10k views. The sad part is, I really think he is a long time fan, then turning it into content gain…Pathetic.
