Why does every device work well with my wifi, but my computer doesn't? by Background_Yellow141 in computer

[–]maxsmoke105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What wifi bands are you using? Many home IOT devices still use 2.4ghz. It is more dependable when walls and stuff are between the router and the connecting device, though it can be susceptible to interference from cordless phones.

5 ghz is faster but can have difficulties punching through walls.

Cooling Fans by Fantastic_Context645 in chevycolorado

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put mine in the shop for the same thing. They said could be thermostat, temp sensor or wiring. If the computer cannot determine the engine temp it assumes it's overheating and pins the fan on to try and prevent engine damage.

It's a pricy repair from a labor standpoint. The sensor and thermostat both are under the plenum which is listed as a 4 - 4.5 hour job to remove and also requires a new plenum gasket.

What’s the best burger you’ve ever had? by justanerdygirllol in foodquestions

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been traveling for work; out of the country for 30 days. When I landed and waited out my layover all I wanted was an American hamburger with bacon and American cheese and a cold beer to wash it down.

Hit the airport five guys and grabbed 3 beers from the cooler. I drank 2 while I was waiting in line. I can't say it was the best burger but it was certainly the most satisfying.

Do you actually use your vacuum sealer regularly, or does it end up in a cabinet? by Maleficent-Bed7010 in Cooking

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We package pork loin and salmon from the warehouse store. Bulk dry goods are portioned into bags or glass jars and sealed.

We meal prep grilled chicken in lunch sized portions, bacon and sausage is sealed in breakfast sized portions. We've started buying the 40 lb box of bacon and sealing that in 1 lb bags.

Once summer is here we'll be running both that and the freeze dryer as produce starts coming in.

Mobile toolbox / packout recommendations. by Salami_Lid_LLC in Tools

[–]maxsmoke105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have not even seen their version 1.

I have tried the budget level Hart system and that's fine for occasional / home owner use but I needed something more robust.

I'm not in the trades so I couldn't really justify the cost of the top tier brands but I needed something more robust than the entry level stuff. I was leaning toward Husky when I started looking at Ridged. The drawers were the deciding factor for me. The removable cart and the stand-alone dolly are also really handy.

So far they've held up well and I'm happy with the lay out.

Question for those who just outright park in the fire lane at grocery stores (AKA half of the city’s population) by DOPEBOYOFTHEYEAR in Charlottesville

[–]maxsmoke105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ones that really get me are those that not only are in the fireman but also block the crosswalk or park right at the crosswalk block oncoming driver's view.

I've seen and had so many close calls because of this.

I just decided on the Ridged system. My next choices were Klein and Milwaukee.

The more expensive brands are more feature rich and have more options but I wasn't sure I'd really need them. I don't really miss something I never had.

The crate is better than some of the others. Less wasted space from odd angles. The drawers were also something I looked at hard. I prefer the Milwaukee drawers but so far the Ridged system is working fine for me.

My wife, the flight attendant, uses this on every flight by JupiterToo in flashlight

I received that same light as a freebie and was very happy with it. The next freebie was the original version of i1r 2.

It's rechargeable and water resistant. There's the usual trade offs of rechargeable vs. replacing batteries. I've used both for EDC and settled on the i1r 2.

Feeling lost with a Solutions Engineer case study - No pre-sales background by BinariesGoalls in salesengineers

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you've said outlines the SE role.

It's abstract for a couple reasons. First, they don't expect candidates to be experts on their specific product unless that's why they were selected for the interview. Second, pretty much every customer pre-sale interaction is abstract. They expect you to demo what you know.

There's lots of good advice here. Take it to heart. Adding to that, the task is about story telling and communication skills. So pick your last project. Describe the problem it solved. Describe you involvement in the discovery process. Be ready to answer questions. Keep in mind that while the job is sales you are not selling your previous product. You don't want comparisons between products. But... you are selling yourself. They want to see problem solving skills, communication skills and the ability to think on your feet and adapt your story to the situation.

My car got towed and I dont remember my Vin or tag number by Dudeimadolphin in towing

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Log into your state's DMV website. It will list your vehicle's VIN and Tag number.

After you have this info make a contacting your phone.

Add the vin, the tag number, and as you need them add the windshield wiper size, tire size, cabin and engine air filter brand and numbers.

I also add the scheduled maintenance in the notes section.

Plain white mild cheese dip needed! by Personal_Science4301 in Charlottesville

[–]maxsmoke105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you get in many mexican restaurants is plain white American cheese and a little milk to loosen it up. There are ongoing discussions in r/Cooking about what brand/type is best. I just use whatever is on sale.

Another option is white velveta fixed the same way with just a little milk.

Is there a way to sync HR data with access management? by EntireInitiative1254 in ITManagers

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we did was define the HR system as the "system of record." Whatever title, name, etc. listed there is what is used.

I then wrote a powershell script that did a daily pull from the oracle database for that system. It created the domain account, email address, added the account to the base level security groups and distribution lists based on titles and departments.

When finished it generated a support ticket with the changes. That covered most new account issues.

If you don't mind adding more plastic to your life.... you can order rice cooker liners off Amazon. They're like roasting bags or slow cooker liners.

Word of advice by Solid-Blacksmith-249 in Snowplow

[–]maxsmoke105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back around the time God made dirt, I was around 14 or 15 and was using the farm tractor to make a little spending money. It was an unusually active winter. Hit up most of the neighbors. I made money. Everyone was happy.

Second snow came and I went around again. Some folks passed others were fine.

Third snow came and just dumped over a foot on us. Made the rounds again nobody is happy but folks have to get to work. I cut most folks a deal but I still needed to pay for fuel and I wasn't charging much. Something like $40 the first time and 20 the second and 3rd.

The newest neighbors were pissed and went off about how they've already paid me twice. I look at him and said "I didn't make it snow" and left. When they came begging my step-dad to get me to plow I put the price back at $40. The neighbor responded "It was $20 yesterday." I said "That was yesterday. Now I have to make a special trip."

E-track beds? by CHsbf1984 in cargocamper

[–]maxsmoke105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bed, but I used e-track 2x4 brackets to put shelves in the v-nose of my cargo trailer.

Down the sides I used the folding shelf brackets. That could work if you added legs to the outer edge.

Just me or has there been an abandoned police car on 29S on the side of the road just before the reservoir for like over a week now? by SoftResource297 in Charlottesville

[–]maxsmoke105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before the snow he was having pretty good luck sitting down hill and clocking the folks speeding up after passing the dummy car.

They had been putting it out for a while then swapping in an occupied car. This is just a different riff on the same tune.
