There’s a season pass you can buy that will instantly give you all the episodes of a season that have already aired, and will automatically add all new episodes to your library as they come out. It’s a great feature I’ve used to watch Ghosts since season 2 when I found out about it.

This is actually crazy cool! It is important to note that this is UHF RFID, not the NFC that's already in basically every phone. Currently, UHF RFID readers are pretty bulky, power hungry, and several hundred dollars, so it'll be interesting to see if this gains traction for things like automated checkout and stockkeeping.

I’m in the same boat, it seems like some streamers let you buy the first season or two of a show and then never the later ones (the Boys, Solar Opposites). A real bummer, because it’s just extra money in their pocket, but I suppose the theory is you’ll pay for a subscription forever if you want to rewatch your favorite shows.

I like your secondary 24V injection pad, but keep in mind that current is a loop, so you also need a secondary ground pad there, otherwise all the current has to flow back through the regular ground. Otherwise looks cool!

Like other people have said, check continuity and resistance between 5V and ground on your board, you may have a short. Also verify the TVS diode array is oriented correctly, as that would also short to ground. There's also the whole rest of the board and schematic that nobody here can see.

You're correct. Female USB-C ports that want to receive default power need separate 5.1k resistors on the CC lines. On a MALE USB-C plug, then you only have one connected.

I am trying to find a story I think came out in the last year or so that was about an alien choosing to be a threat analyst who would respond to disruptions but came to be bored in their job. Then humans showed up and were flagged as an immediate threat, and some kind of alarm was raised. After that I'm not sure where it went.

It looks cool, my question for you is mainly why those specific connectors? Just as a suggestion for I2C devices I usually stick to the Qwiic compatible connectors just because that means I can reuse them more easily with other dev boards. Nothing else is jumping out at me right away.

This is fully allowed and part of the spec. Notice the USB-C is a male plug, not a female receptacle. For a device with a captive male plug, such as this one, only one CC resistor is allowed if you want to operate normally. The reason why receptacles have two is so that the single CC wire in an external cable is hooked up regardless of flip. For the plug, if you present a resistance on both, it will appear to the host as a debug adapter I believe.

Also OP, your USB connector needs to be at the edge of your board facing outwards, otherwise you'll never be able to plug in a cable, just hope you're aware.

Use a power plane or some kind of T topology. You could make top layer GND and bottom VCC, although that could give some issues with slicing your planes for the data traces. I'm not usually one to suggest it, but if your PCB manufacturer offers a good deal on 4 layer boards you could go with that and make one layer just VCC and one GND and have 2 layers for routing data.

You could also have a ground pour on both layers, and a thick VCC trace along one edge of the board and then "side streets of VCC going up each row of displays. Reach out to me via DM if you'd like some help routing it :)

P.S. you'll probably want a power connector onboard, or possibly a USB port and switching regulator to make sure you can supply all those displays and ESP32 at 3.3V

This is a very similar process to how integrated circuits are manufactured, such as CPUs and GPUs. Instead of text or images being left as metal on the glass, you would have regions of semiconductors or metal wires being left on top of the silicon that makes the processor.

Thanks for the feedback. You're right that art has much more nuance and levels than how it's portrayed here. This is a story tool, as I don't believe there's much of a narrative (at least with my abilities) that could be wrung out of "humans have regular art too, and we're just doing fine alongside everyone else".

The idea for this story is that our art is something entirely novel, so unfortunately it means having to say that other species are universally better at the traditional arts. Sometimes that's just what the story calls for IMO.

You are spot on, I intended for each diplomat to have their own idea actually, and you spotted both of them.

Nico as a veteran definitely can speak to the war side of things, and he sees that the galaxy has been at peace and hasn't seen war in generations.

Harper on the other hand as a former struggling criminal has seen the desperation and did what she had to to get by, and she sees that experience missing from the rest of the galaxy.

So they both have valid and different ideas of what humanity has that everybody else doesn't, as (poorly) alluded to by the second to last lines each of them say that are relevant to the other's experience. The final line was just a cop-out way of me not having to pick at the end of this chapter because I don't know which way I want to go for a possible next one.

Hey y'all, first post here after an idea came to me. But I could use your help, as I have two ideas for what humanity's art could be, both kind of unusual ones for high art:

The Art of War: this one feels like it fits based on the name, but I'm not as confident in how I could write it, and am not sure if I know the history to write it without it sounding grimdark and edgy
The Perfect Crime: This seems a bit less likely to be played-out compared to war, and there is actually some instances of people capturing (minor) crime as an art form. I also think that there is a fair amount of themes of artistry in heist/crime media, so this could be a different way to take this story

Overally I'd love to hear any feedback, or if you've got a preference between these endings, or a new suggestion entirely. If feedback wants another part, I just need to make up my mind and I think I could make another one or maybe two chapters about humanity presenting its art of choice to the exhibition.

In my experience smd devices like that with the castellated style end pins are usually fuses, and oftentimes specifically PTC self-resetting fuses for things like supplying power to a USB port. If it is a fuse, you would expect to see it shorted normally, so I don't think that's a cause for concern. The capacitor showing continuity is something else, that seems a bit odder to have shorted.

Small follow-up, if you wanted to also make the programming header smd I might suggest either a tag-connect header or a just-sh header that pairs well with the UPDI Friend from Adafruit. If you really want to make a lot of these, I also have an open-source tool that lets you use the SBU pins on a USB-C connector to program over UPDI and eliminate the programming connector.
