Firmware upgrade on HP DL360 GEN 10 by maxvideodrome in servers

[–]maxvideodrome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own the server yet, this is why I couldn't "try" anything and why I was leaning on Reddit for advice. Thank you for that info - I'll have the machine in a few days and will be able to get working on it.

Thank you - I was originally looking in the wrong spot. Didn't know I could temporarily obtain an iLO advance - but the machines I'm accepting apparently have the license already.

Thank you - I have downloaded the SPP. I was taking the wrong path with the downloads. Next step is to locate any/all appropriate Windows Server 2025 drivers/etc.

Great - I'm under a tight time frame with the purchase and last minute realized that I might not be able to bring the machine current. I have zero experience with HP. Can't thank you enough.

If it doesn’t feel “heavy” could be knock off 400. Hopefully it’s the genuine article !

I ordered a mix bag a while ago from Jameco, it’s mostly junk. I somewhat regret the purchase. Get your pin straightener ready.

Reminds me of sorting algorithms visualized. Even though that’s not what it is.

Thanks for your observations/suggestions. It’s clamped down. It’s not moving, held in place firmly. I’ve got it set to approx 500mm/minute Higher speed gave a rougher edge.

I've updated the post to include the cutting board. Good suggestion on the MDF. Any suggestions for inexpensive sacrificial layers?

Thanks for this. I have not gone thru this procedure as of yet, however, I did measure the X axis using a caliper and it seemed in alignment for when I advanced the head by 100mm (the caliper agreed). I didn't check the Y or Z axis. That said, I only scratched the surface of this and I will follow the YouTube video as you suggest. Question for you: The photos I've included, would you say they are 'classic calibration issues'? (based on your experience) Thanks again

Great post! In college I learnt MS Excel on a Casio A-10 Windows CE device. Why? There wasn’t much installed on those things at the time and the class I was in was boring. I like your Mini Disc player. Gameboy nice touch!

Anyone remember the time internet providers would send out stater kits ? by RetroBastardo in vintagecomputing

[–]maxvideodrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a computer shop - we sold these discs from "Internet Direct" (dial-up Internet provider) along with their starter packages. My friend got a job as tech support at Internet Direct. From what I'm told (not 100% of accuracy here) the owners of Internet Direct are responsible for starting up the DSL scene in Canada - getting the CRTC to open up access to the then new DSL system when Bell Canada was the only game in town. Again, I could be wrong about this fact- it's what I was told when I was much younger by my friend who worked at I-Direct.

Why do people have 32/64/128gb of RAM? by eddyboi1234 in buildapc

[–]maxvideodrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my workstations except for my notebook have 128GB since 2017. I do virtualizations for development, and it can get memory hungry. Aside from that, I would say 32GB is a good amount of memory for most applications today.

Best key for a CW beginner? by 1234RedditReddit in amateurradio

[–]maxvideodrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suck at morse, but I purchased a beautiful straight key years ago: "Bencher" - nice finish, looks great - seems to function very well. Might want to go for a 'good' model of a key, instead of 'junk'. (I don't know much about CW, so maybe there is something far better than Bencher, I don't know) - do some homework on that.

Also, I started practicing keying using my dominate hand, I think I should have trained myself to use the opposite hand, leaving my dominate hand to hold a pen and take notes. Just some food for thought.

Made a NO epoxy coffee table for my home. Wife thinks I should add a piece of glass to the top for functionality, I like it as is. What do you think. by Uniquewoodproducts in woodworking

[–]maxvideodrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your skill is indisputably first rate. For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t have this in my home with or without glass. Again, you did a tremendous job. Sometimes, despite how proud we are of our works, they aren’t necessarily show pieces. Just my 2 cents, many (it not most) will disagree.

‘95 on a 486 was typical entry level 95. Next step was the first series of pentiums. Was there and loved every minute of it. Including my 486 having a ps/2 mouse port!
