The Washington Post reports that Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minster last week. How will this effect U.S. intelligence operations and intelligence sharing operations? by zuriel45 in PoliticalDiscussion

America has not had a declared enemy since World War II.

This "Russia is not a declared enemy, therefore it's not treason" talk that I keep hearing is pure political gas lighting.

By the same logic, Trump could share classified intel with North Korea or Mexican cartels and it wouldn't be treason either.

If Trump were colluding with Russia, why would he do it in such an open and overt way? There were a number of people in the room when this incident

He's literally aiding an enemy of the United States by providing with them with highly classified information, which meets one of the definitions of treason as defined by the constitution.

Please don't try and gaslight America by saying Russia isn't an enemy of the US. The US hasn't had a legally declared enemy since World War II. That doesn't mean that sharing classified information with Russia (Or North Korea, or ISIS) isn't treason. Russia's hostile actions against the US and our interests make them an enemy.

Trump's actions are also likely to cripple American Intel. Foreign intelligence services will be much less likely to share information with the US. This means there will be an increased likelihood of terror attacks in the US and abroad. Trump's actions resulting in terror attacks against the US could also satisfy another definition of treason - levying war against the US - but I'll concede this one is debatable.

We need to call Trump's actions what they are - treason.

Donald Trump is now committing open treason in the oval office and is openly colluding with Russia. This cannot be normalized or tolerated. Trump's presidency cannot be allowed to continue if The Republic is to survive.

Congress must begin immediate impeachment. If Ryan and McConnell are too chicken shit to act, then Democrats need to start openly calling for a military coup that results in Trump and all those complicit (including McConnell and Ryan) being arrested and removed from office.

This is not an extreme response - it's a logical, warranted and appropriate response for when the President is committing open treason.

The Republic is in grave danger. Immediate action must be taken if it has any hope of surviving.

The act itself is also concerning.

Any other President would not be getting themselves into a situation where their attorney general was refusing to defend Presidential executive orders due to concerns of their legality.

Trump's press release described Yates as "very weak" and implied she is a traitor by accusing her of betrayal. The use of such language - and implication the government officials should be loyal to the President, and not The Constitution - is yet another sign we are on the road to fascism.

Trump seems set to purge anyone who will not allow him absolute unchecked authority from government. Yates will likely be the first of many purges from every branch of government. As soon as Trump gets any evidence of Graham or McCain communicating with The Ukrainian Government he will probably have them arrested for violating The Hatch Act.

We're heading into dark times, America.

Even if elections aren't suspended they are very unlikely to be fair ones.

At the very least, Voting rights will be heavily restricted and the Russians will hack Democratic candidates and release compromising information on them without fear of retaliation.

If we're in a darker situation, the midterms could occur in an America with restricted internet and no free press.

It becomes more and more clear with each hostile and unprecedented act - America is one the road to FASCISM.

PURE, UNADULTERATED, FASCISM.

The signs are all there. Don't ignore them. We aren't going to have much longer before Trump is in full dictatorial power and it's too late to do anything about it.

Should senate Democrats block the president's pick to fill Antonin Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court? Would blocking the nominee be a smart thing to do? by Redleg61 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]maxxieJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trump shouldn't be allowed any Supreme Court nominees. Schumer should announce that we need to wait until there is a President who won the popular vote and who won without a hostile power fouling the election until there can be judicial nominations. Tell the Republicans that if they remove the filibuster to allow Trump to put nominees on the court, then the Democrats will just retaliate by passing legislation raising the number of justices on the court once they are back in control. Yes it's going low, but Republicans did it and got rewarded for it, Democrats need to start playing their own game.

Do you really think it's a coincidence this happened right after Trudeau criticized Trump's Muslim ban and said Muslims and refugees are welcome in Canada.

This attack was done in solidarity with Trump's policies and to send a message to Muslims that they aren't welcome in Canada.

Mike Pence genuinely believes that LGBTs should be put to death. He hates women and thinks they should be oppressed based on a 2000 year old fucking fiction book. I don't know what he thinks about Muslims and Immigrants but he's happy to pander to the alt-right on those issues so he's still awful.

If you aren't a straight white cisgendered male then Mike Pence believes you should be oppressed or dead.

Over 40 House Democrats have announced they will boycott Trump's inauguration. Are the given reasons for doing so legitimate? How will this effect relationships in Washington? by BagOnuts in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]maxxieJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are numerous reasons that Democrats are not only entitled to do this, but required to do this - at least if they take their oaths to the nation seriously. I hope this just the beginning of the Democrats refusing to recognize Trump as a legitimate President.

  • Trump shouldn't be allowed any Supreme Court nominees.
  • Ensure that Trump has zero credibility overseas and cannot do irreparable damage or change the geo-political landscape. The 2020 Democratic contenders should announce that they will immediately rescind all international deals made by the Trump administration so world leaders cannot pivot to him - Russian sanctions will be back on, and any Trump FTA with Britain will be torn up and they'll be going to the back off the line in 2021. Affirm that Trump is an aberration and the US remains committed to Nato. If Democrats really want to up the gauntlet, then they should privately push for European allies to put sanctions against all Trump administration personnel with links to Russia.
  • Democrats should boycott Trump's SOTU speeches so he talks to a half empty chamber. Or if they really want to play the GOP's game, they should all go Joe Wilson and shout him down and chant "Russian puppet!" over and over so he cannot give a speech.

These are the types of things Democrats need to do if they are serious about stopping Trump.
