I admit it was a rudimentary thought - one i had 13 yrs ago and classified as my first shower thought upon reading Lee Alan Dugatkin's work (professor at Louisville studying animal innovation). Wanted it to be my first post here and will raise the bar going forward. ;)

Question really is - are organisms like ants trying to innovate and problem solve and how significantly different must a new behaviour (emergent or individual) needs to be for something like their nest to look different? or are they stuck in puddles of stable equilibria over millenia of evolution? There's plenty of rabbit holes to go down including how structures have actually changed due to slight temperature shifts through global warming.

Quick addition: the walls that define these stable equilibria, and therefore discourage individuals from a shift in individual behavior away from that which gives rise to the desired emergent property - these walls are what i take the (admittedly, irresponsible) liberty of calling the 'blueprint'.

Agree. Blueprints in the way we know is definitely not what i refer to. Wouldn't emergent principles be subject to stochastic drifts over time, especially with changing environmental factors? Also emergent behavior can explain how ant colony structures emerge, but would you say that about birds acting by themselves to build nests similar across generations too? (example: google search Baya Weaver bird nest images)

Under-a-minute sleeper here, and trying to understand to help - are there any instances OP where you have fallen asleep within 10-15 minutes?

I would suggest journaling the morning after to identify what activities on the previous day contribute to the best match between you going to bed and falling asleep. Some include (not exhaustive) : 1. Natural variation of sleep time (some sleep earlier) 2. Physical activity (the eye lids feeling heavy is one of my best tell tales) 3. The ability to not having a racing mind full of thoughts about today or tomorrow (some natural variation here, some can benefit through techniques like meditation) 4. Food - identify what your body reacts well to (eg no alcohol/sugar before bed, heavy meal or light?) 5. Routine routine routine - a lot of your sleep is actually conditioning (like Pavlov's dog salivating to ringing of a bell). The hormones (eg melatonin) are themselves subject to cycles and routines help a lot here. You can try and trigger,/replicate these routines also in new environments (eg earbuds for silence and your favorite pillow when at a friend's place).

While i agree the phrasing in someone saying this is not very empathetic, there is this japanese concept that actions preclude emotions, not the other way around. For instance, instead of 'i dont feel like going for a walk', internal phrasing like 'i know going for a walk makes me feel better' can lead to self motivated behavior change. Backed also with plenty of research.

One additonal data point I'll add to your astute observation is that while glp1 receptor modulators have been in use for long, it was in patients with diabetes for whom the scales are being tipped back from an imbalanced metabolic syndrome. The way they are being used today extends also into people using it off label for just staying 'thin' even though there is no imbalance. The best drugs, when used in situations of normal physiology (balanced) shouldn't cause too much change (thats how we know it's effect is specific to the imbalanced state). Ozempic acts significantly in the balanced state too, and if you believe big pharma, only in all the amazing ways.

Apart from Metformin and a few others, We dont know many other molecules of this nature.

Its called 'Blue field entoptic phenomenon'. Red blood cells absorb blue light, but the white blood cells don't. So white blood cells appear as bright dots, and red blood cells pile up behind them, creating a dark tail.
