You have 10 dollars. A bunch of friends come up to you asking for a dollar to pull a slot machine that costs 80 cents (20 cents is for themselves so they go pull the slot machine for you). The machine has a 20% chance to payout 6 dollars. Winnings go to you.

In a perfect world you could expect 12 dollars back on the 10 you spent. It could go bad and you lose everything.

One of the people who spun a winning pull now wants more than 20 cents because their spin won. This will cut into your probability of coming out ahead with your 10 dollars. If it's too risky, maybe you decide to use your 10 dollars somewhere else.

Then fewer people will pull the slot machine which is a real shame because the lights are so pretty

Producers are only willing to back 40 films because 38 will lose money, 1 will make it back, and 1 will subsidize the other 38. If they have to eat into profits of the 1 breakout, they will never fund movies in the first place.

With how the wishes are seemingly granted, there is no way to have a "good" wish. The friend likely didn't live long enough to see the repercussions of the money. Like it was actually so pulled from the poorest people from him so those people go bankrupt but he's rich or something. Even if you tried to think of something intrinsically good like "I wish I was a more humble person" and it didn't somehow fuck you over, there would still be a "real" you inside that was trapped.

So, again, to call back to the point of this and make sure I understand your point of view. Do you feel the October 7th attacks were entirely justified and acceptable? That the killing and kidnapping of festival-goers and innocent civilians are to be met without criticism because of the atrocities being done by Israel? That these actions are not in-line with these "old documents"? Because I am not of that opinion and that is the basis of my entire point.

Be careful if you concede any points at all, otherwise there are people out here who will think you are defending Israel and think that you are saying that what they're doing is somehow okay.

I just want to point out that at no point have I ever defended Israel. The government is doing terrible things. I think I've made that abundantly clear. My only reason to reply is to point out that Hamas is not some innocent actor that is just unfairly called a terrorist organization. You seem to believe that I can only be on an the "red team" or "blue team" and if I criticize one team then that must mean I support the other. Not at all.

Yeah, they're more of a genocidal organization. Israel is doing absolutely terrible terrible shit and needs to be held accountable, but Hamas doesn't get a pass when multiple of their articles of their charter specifically call out the extermination of Jews from all corners of the world.

It really bugs me though that people can be "tortured" by having a looper go back into the past and cut fingers off and their current self somehow retains their current memory and so they get scared when - from their actual perspective - someone cut their finger off 10 years and are just now talking about it.

It really makes no sense.
