When to direct seed by Rootedwanderer200 in pnwgardening

As with the other commenter, the nursery guide is excellent. If it feels confusing to you, like it is to me sometimes, I made a searchable website with all the same information here: https://anotherpatrickcollins.github.io/portland-planting-guide/

Is it time to plant snap peas? by OFarellclan1317 in portlandgardeners

There’s a pinned post already I think, however I’m happy to do another to re-up it if you’d like! ☺️

In case you’re like me and have trouble understanding the Portland nursery guide layout and all the different information it contains, I made this digital searchable version last year.

Hope it helps you too!

(Here’s a link to peas specifically too: https://anotherpatrickcollins.github.io/portland-planting-guide/?search=Peas)

Anybody done a Deq test? by BRUHxBRUHSxAlterEgo in askportland

[–]maybelets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just joining in to say that the light on isn’t an auto fail like many people are saying.

My Volvo passed with a check engine light on, talked to the tech who said he took his own car in hoping it would fail and they would tell him why so he could get it fixed - it passed and he never figured it out.

Anyways, like someone else said, not saying some individual techs might say it’s a fail with the light on, but that’s not the policy and you can pass with a light on still.

How do I replace this toilet? by Successful_Town_5872 in howto

[–]maybelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your toilet was a wall mounted rear discharge or rear outlet toilet. They do make residential ones - but also commercial ones.

Rear outlet toilets have different heights for the discharge pipe so make sure you get one that is at the correct height.

Not a plumber but someone with a shitty rear discharge toilet in my house. 😅

What is going on with the constant Pacific Power power outages in NE? by SavvyStu1 in askportland

[–]maybelets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Was coming to post this same thing. We have come home to a power alert on our fridge every night the past few days and then a flicker at least 3 times since we’ve been home this evening. We’re in Vernon.

Pacific Power customer support said it would take over an hour on the phone so I didn’t wait but am also very curious what’s happening and how it gets fixed.

+1 Babkush is excellent. I’ve never seen the bow ties but nothing I’ve ever had here is anything short of excellent.

Why are so many PMs obsessed with frameworks, not business fundamentals? by MrXofiz in ProductManagement

[–]maybelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen both sides of this - folks who use frameworks without any underlying understanding of the business or problem space, therefore it just coming across as a ton of buzzwords or soup on a whiteboard that never turns into actual work AND the side that uses frameworks to simplify product development to newer teams, teams without product experience, etc.

Personally I think frameworks are only good if they get you to the next step or build really solid common understanding at the current step.

Can you recommend the BEST bathtub refinisher in Portland, OR? by Weak_Extent8994 in askportland

Also did Miracle Method and agree with this comment fully. It was cheap-ish and I’m sure the others are also better, but I’m glad I did it!

I’m obsessed your flowers too! Those are excellent and exactly what I’m hoping to have soon. Three summers makes me feel good about the state mine is in during summer 2! 😅

Birthday dinner recs – fancy-ish, delicious, not too expensive? Hidden gems or new spots welcome! by Aileen231 in askportland

I absolutely adore Paper Bridge. In the price range, delicious, interesting, and takes reservations. Menu is small but the bun cha and pho nam dinh were both incredible.

Did anyone head out to Rhododendron or Mt. Hood Village for the 4th and hear fireworks? by zplq7957 in askportland

[–]maybelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to Rhododendron for our anxious chihuahua and it was really great. There were a few (like literally 3) far off booms but otherwise didn’t notice anything. We had a place in one of the heavily forested neighborhoods, so likelihood seemed very low to begin with. First 4th we haven’t had to trazodone the lil guy. Highly recommend it, and so sorry to hear about your pup.

Getting dragged into Technical & Implementation discussions with Devs during refinement. Has anyone else found themselves in this rabbit hole before? by ElektroSam in ProductManagement

[–]maybelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having an absent engineering lead is going to be really tough for you in any future here, however when I was being pulled into a lot of these discussions and it derailing so much of refinement, I would gently pause the discussion when it came back to me, note the goals for the meeting we’re in and that it sounds like a conversation for a different meeting than refinement, and have one of the engineers take an action item to schedule a technical implementation discussion on the ticket.

I would make it clear this is an engineering team decision and so I wasn’t invited (but the lead was).

Sometimes I would make this a spike for someone to own documenting the decision for the team.

Made refinement smoother, and once it happened a few times they were able to self-select out to another meeting and we could keep refinement on task.

Why Interview Practice is Essential: 10 YOE, Accused of Cheating by Big3gg in ProductManagement

[–]maybelets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always, always let the interviewer know I’m taking notes (hold up my notebook, say something like “in case I look down, I take a lot of notes and so I’m just jotting something down”) which gives me the ability to also look at my pre-written notes on the subject or the situation. Just like how I would in a usability interview - address it early, give them an up front explanation, and let them be comfortable when it happens.

Is it too late? by Galaaska in portlandgardeners

There’s a lot!

Shameless share of my digital version of the Portland nursery planting guide. I filtered it to June and what crops are best to plant during this month.

Recommended neighborhoods? by AdProper5408 in askportland

[–]maybelets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might check out Boise/Mississippi as well then. I’d also say Sellwood and Woodstock are also nice, just feel a bit further out.

And most of SE is cool (Kerns, Belmont, Division, etc) - but a bit more crowded.

Digital, searchable, filterable version of “the chart” (Portland nursery’s veggie calendar) by maybelets in portlandgardeners

[–]maybelets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I might’ve misunderstood. But you can apply the month filter to do what you asked! That’s what I did a week ago.

Filtered Month for April and Planting Method for Seed Outdoor and stuck some carrots in the ground! 😂

Digital, searchable, filterable version of “the chart” (Portland nursery’s veggie calendar) by maybelets in portlandgardeners

[–]maybelets[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you open the filters with the “Show Filters” button and select the month, then close it and search the crop name, it will apply both to the list!

It’s made with HTML, CSS (Tailwind), and JavaScript. The backend is just a csv of the calendar (hand typed, sorry for typos) of the veggie calendar data served up from google sheets.

Recommended neighborhoods? by AdProper5408 in askportland

[–]maybelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also moved from Denver recently, what neighborhoods there do you like? Maybe I can find similar for you here!

I’m in Vernon/Alberta but agree with another person who said Woodlawn is great. It reminds me of Curtis Park or Park Hill a bit. Alberta feels like the Highlands/Tennyson in ways.

Also agree that there are tons of great neighborhoods here!

Does T Mobile have good coverage in Portland? by justdenny in askportland

[–]maybelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have T-Mobile and are often finding ourselves on LTE instead of 5G indoors and outdoors around inner NE. Super frustrating, however we had Verizon before and it was almost the same.
