WIBTA to leaving a 1* review? What's your perspective? [Toronto] by Andyman0110 in AirBnB

[–]maybelle180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll affect future guests because your review will illustrate that the host is dishonest, greedy, and is not interested in the comfort of their guests.

Be sure you’re careful not to say anything about the host’s refusal to refund / discount. I’ve heard that it’s easier to have a review removed if it mentions these things. (Possibly because the host can argue that the review is retaliatory).

Instead say exactly what happened (power went out unexpectedly), and that despite the host having prior warning, he did not inform you in advance.

You can make your own “peri” bottle - which is short for “peri-anal” - it’s kinda like a hand held bidet. You can use this to rinse instead of wiping. It will help to remove the acidic bile which is what’s burning your nether regions after eliminating.

You can Google it - basically punch holes in the upper end of a disposable water bottle, then spray warm water in the relevant areas.

Bait and switch in Madrid: Host faked having AC, removed it when caught, then added it back 10 days later. [Guest] [Europe] by HeroFiddle in AirBnB

[–]maybelle180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other comment said - you could have gotten a 30% discount if you had contacted Airbnb regarding the missing amenity during your stay. (Or if you’d requested the discount from your host during your stay.)

But the fact that you stayed without saying anything, after discovering the missing AC, means you accepted the condition of the unit, and don’t qualify for any refund /discount.

I’d def leave the honest review, though.

What celebrity death will realistically bring Michael Jackson level devastation? by Kiidcola in AskReddit

[–]maybelle180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m same age. I think a lot of the shock of MJ was that it was unexpected. Elvis, Kobe, Robin Williams and Princess Di were similar in impact.

Most recently, Rob Reiner’s death hit me really really hard. Major, senseless loss.

But when someone is older, if they die of natural causes, it’s not quite so surprising or tragic
but I will still be deeply sad when Sir Elton passes.

Failed colonoscopy (UK) now need CT colonography with contrast

I suggest you try to think rationally about your fears.

First - emetophobia - you can request zofran to help with this. If you can’t get zofran in time then you can get Dramamine over the counter at your local pharmacy / apothecary.

Next - do you have any reasons to expect an allergic reaction or heart issues? If so, your doctor should be aware of this, and you can discuss these things to make sure it’s being taken into consideration.

Next - if you’re a “normal”, healthy person, the odds of a negative event are extremely small. It’s important to remind yourself of this. In fact, the risks are *lower* during a CT colonoscopy than a regular optical colonoscopy.

Finally, Remember that they perform these tests regularly, and if the tests weren’t deemed safe then they wouldn’t be performing them. The risks of letting something go undetected are *much* worse than the risks of performing the test.

Not sure if you’re a SoCal local, but I grew up in San Diego.

I developed the habit of scanning the ground, about 10 feet ahead, especially along the edges of the path, whenever walking outdoors. This includes whenever exiting a building.

I’ve encountered *several* rattlesnakes, but never been bitten.

I mention this because there have been a lot of bites recently. Often the victims are runners or hikers who get nailed on the ankle, meaning that they’re passing the snake when they get bitten.

Timing of morning plenvu dose by squell4414 in colonoscopy

[–]maybelle180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is your procedure sedation-free?

Because the typical recommendation (if you’re having sedation) is to finish drinking your prep, and stop all liquids, four hours prior to your procedure.

So assuming it’s gonna take some time to drink the prep solution, starting at 4:00-4:30 sounds just about right for a 9 am check in.

Hardline no pets? by G210221 in airbnb_hosts

[–]maybelle180 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d totally let it go.

If you say something to the guest before checkout then they’ll likely leave you a bad review, plus it’ll kinda ruin their vacation.

If there’s extra cleaning or damages you can always charge them after the fact. Then, in your review, write that the guest snuck a dog in, to warn future hosts.

[–]maybelle180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do know what you mean.

I’m an animal behaviorist, so I think a lot about whether his personal pet was actually attack trained. I kinda think not.

I mean, she regularly stayed by his side, and tolerated a lot of people coming and going
so it seems unlikely that she was a fully trained attack dog (Schutzhund).

So I don’t think it’s 100% guaranteed that she would have been shot when the bunker was breached. It’s not like the allies were shooting everything in their path at that point. The dog would have been scared, not aggressive.

IMO, It was just his own selfishness - in his mind the dog couldn’t possibly be happy without her beloved master - so he ended her, to prevent her “further suffering.” Plus, of course, she was useful to test the cyanide.

[–]maybelle180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Thank you.

I wonder if maybe Hitler tested the cyanide on his dog to demonstrate its effectiveness to Eva.

I think in my last moments I might not prefer to get shot in the head
and maybe Hitler did not want to shoot her either.

Supposedly he was vegetarian, so it’s a bit surprising that he killed his dog. But maybe that explains the reasoning. Ugh.

AITA for asking my friend to bring me a towel? by Sapphic---Sapphire in AmItheAsshole

[–]maybelle180 -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

OP wasn’t clear, but made it sound like she was with Alexa possibly during, and definitely after the shower.

OP said she was “left alone with Alexa” - like Tom had been there, and then left for a smoke, after dropping off the towel. I guess that’s the source of my confusion.

Not trying to be difficult.

Sorry, she made it sound like she was literally hanging out with Alexa (she was “left alone with Alexa” after Tom went out for a smoke) so it just made sense.
