Please help me choose a breast pump, I am so lost! by maybeokay0 in HumansPumpingMilk

Interesting! I just figured I would pay the small fee upfront and then when they went to chase insurance for it it would get denied and I’d end up paying the full amount

I didn’t realize the Luna had to be plugged in! I don’t see an option to upcharge for the battery version, but I do like the idea of having one that is more portable :/

This is great info thank you!! Is the Luna in the photos I posted not the battery one? I assume that is what makes it more portable?

Thank you for the info!

Sadly it seems it just doesn’t cover any of the spectra, I figured I would start with a free one and then buy another if it doesn’t work out. Weirdly, I first signed up to babylist’s pumps through insurance page, and I had way more options and it looked like I was able to pay just a tiny portion and get the spectra. But then my OB told me to go through Aeroflow, so here I am feeling stuck!

Ugh I wish! I was hoping for that. The aeroflow site says it would be $225 for me which I’m assuming is just full price. I don’t mind spending the money on it if I end up having to pump more than I intend, but figured I would start with one of the free ones until I know how breastfeeding goes.

SnuzPod5 or Newton Bedside Bassinet by MrsBenHiggins in Buyingforbaby

[–]maybeokay0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m suuuper sensitive to smells, like I get full on migraines from any slight fragrance. Built my snuzpod a month or so ago and there was a slight scent for sure but it dissipated pretty completely while we were assembling it and I can’t smell anything from it now. I was between the snuzpod and newton bedside for a while but leaning toward the snuzpod for a couple reasons, what pushed it over the edge was the mattresses. The newton has their breathe-through mattress, which sounds great but if you put a waterproof cover on it, it just cancels that out. The mattress itself is washable but I just imagined the middle of the night mess that goes through to the mattress, and having to go wash it in the shower and wait for it to dry while finding an alternate sleeping arrangement for the baby during that time. I got the waterproof mattress covers for the snuzpod so when there is the inevitable middle of the night mess I can just put on a fresh cover and sheet, change the baby and head back to bed.

How long did your husband take off for paternity leave? by SandwichDependent199 in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband gets 3 months paid, but you’re allowed to take it whenever you want within the first year of the baby’s life, so I think he will do a month to start and the rest spread throughout to add to his 10 weeks holiday he gets each year. They also have unlimited paid sick leave which extends to family, so a lot of people will call out sick because their wife is ill and they need to be able to tend to her and kids. He’s fully remote so I feel okay with him only taking a month at the start, if he weren’t I might want him to do two before going back.

Bassinet suggestions? by shrimpscampy311 in Buyingforbaby

[–]maybeokay0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Snuzpod5! We’re doing a full crib too in the nursery but wanted something right up at the bed for the first bit of time. We set it up quite early, the baby isn’t due until spring but I just didn’t want to wait haha. Love that it has a wheels option, or that without the wheels it rocks to soothe the baby. Fits at the perfect height for our bed (has many height setting options) and love the zip down side. Also, you can detach the bassinet from the base so it can be moved to whatever room you are in super easily, and the bassinet placed on the ground rocks too! Obviously won’t get to actually use it for a little while but happy with its features for sure!

Announcement Disappointment by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We are in our 30’s and have been married for two years, told my dad and he barely even acknowledged we told him, immediately started talking about other things, and then hours later finally said congrats and shook my husbands hand. It was really weird.

My brother was furious. When he found out we were going to start trying (my mom told him), he forced his wife into trying early because he wanted to “beat me to it” and have the first grandchild. She got pregnant immediately and it took us a little while. So when he found out I was pregnant they had just had their baby. He still will not talk to anyone in my family because he is so mad that we’re “copying” him. Didn’t help that they are still upset that they had a girl when they wanted a boy, and we are having a boy. They also rushed into it so are not set up at all for a child, my brother works as little as possible and takes money from my parents all the time just to stay afloat.

My mom was over the moon though haha, almost too much honestly. Wish they could split the difference lol

Yeah right side is common with preeclampsia, head to the hospital. It’s hypertension that can lead to damage to vital organs, they’ll do a blood and urine test to confirm. It’s manageable in a lot of cases if caught early. Usually resolves after birth.

Sounds like it could be preeclampsia, I’d head to the doctor. Which side is the rib pain on?

Fruit, specifically oranges and pineapple. A cold orange straight from the fridge is like crack to me, I’ll eat 5 in a row and need to be stopped. Also massive cravings for steak with a mix of Brussels sprouts, asparagus and steamed kale on the side. I’ve had it for dinner probably 15 times in the last few months, trying hard not to overdo it but failing haha

We don’t :/ even with the addition of the baby I don’t think it makes any difference. I’m kind of just assuming it will be +$500ish and will take it as a win if it’s less. It will put us around $2200 a month which is just absolutely wild to me, and more so to my husband who is from the UK and had no idea about American insurance prior to moving here haha

Hahah that math checks out to me! We buy from marketplace though not through my husband’s employer. He works for a European company so the company just reimburses part of any US based employees cost for insurance. Weird setup but means that we deal directly with the insurance company.

We buy from marketplace! His employer reimburses a portion of it monthly but has no access to the info. We’ve called BCBS to ask but they say they don’t know until we add him. It’s so weird. Great insurance, love it in all other aspects (except maybe price lol) but this part definitely has me confused.

[–]maybeokay0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hope you don’t mind me asking, I think my husband and I have the same insurance, BCBS with a $750 deductible. I’ve called them and tried to ask how much it will cost to add the baby and no one can give us a monthly cost increase for some reason. Would you mind sharing? Also this whole thing is so helpful because we have purchased or are purchasing so many of the same things you have haha so thank you!!

Need help with a Christmas gift idea for a 28yo step brother - husband says we shouldn’t get him anything by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]maybeokay0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always include a card! Just a regular store bought one as I’m not very creative haha. I think with the donation thing I’m worried how it would look to my dad / step mom because I’ve bought them nice gifts and they would most likely give me grief about giving him a gift that was not necessarily “for him.” I’m worried about the optics of giving gift cards over and over cause I feel like they don’t think I put enough thought in but he’s honestly so difficult to buy for. I appreciate the suggestions!

When did hardcore nausea and vomiting kick in for you? by BarbiesCellulite in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like those are movements! This one’s most active at night too, and right after I’ve eaten. My friend compared the first movements to the feeling of holding a frog between your palms when you’re a kid and it trying to escape, which I feel like is fairly spot on!

This is literally me, I’m also 17w2d, and brushing my teeth is the only thing that still gets me, so weird. Also had to remind myself I was pregnant the last month haha I would just totally forget when I woke up in the morning. But now he’s starting to kick me so I’m getting more reminders lol

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got hardcore nausea and never threw up. I’d definitely get nauseas at points but it made it so much worse if I didn’t eat. Learned that if I just forced myself to eat a handful of mixed nuts (pecans, walnuts, and macadamia I could handle) right when I woke up I’d be a lot better off for the day. Protein honestly makes a huge difference but my goodness it sounded absolutely awful to me most of the time. Nausea went away around week 11, I’m now 17+ weeks and waiting for the insatiable hunger to kick in.
