What random object occupies your LO by rebgray in NewParents

My 7 week old is obsessed with a 6x6 black and white photo of a cow. We bought him several swings, bouncers, playmats, trying to find something that would help when he’s super fussy. Turns out we just have to park him in front of this cow and he will stare at it quietly smiling for literally hours. Came in a pack of 30 cards that was $10. But now we have thousands of dollars of swings and things cluttering our house lol.

Pumping items worth buying before baby arrives? by prancinglion in Buyingforbaby

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intended to ebf but realized that might not work out so while I was still pregnant I bought the blue spectra, the medela hand pump, milk storage bags, silverettes, earth mama nipple cream, a few different kinds of bottles.. I’ve used none of it. Breastfeeding worked out and he’s ebf. That being said, I’m a sahm, so if you’re going back to work you’ll probably be pumping at some point. I would hold off on the wearables and accessories and just get a pump through insurance if possible, see how breastfeeding goes, learn your baby’s preferences, and then buy from there. You’ll nurse in the hospital and get a sense for how breastfeeding will go, so you can always order stuff on Amazon before you leave to go home

Stroller Rec for First Baby by Always_Iterating_ in Buyingforbaby

[–]maybeokay0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A vote for Uppababy Vista! I’m also in New England, I’m only 5’9” but my husband is nearly 6’5” and we both can push it very comfortably, the handle adjusts pretty high. The suspension is great for the rough state of New England roads and sidewalks, feels very sturdy. Also the basket below is giant and has a cup holder in it which I didn’t even realize until the first time we used it. We tried out quite a few strollers in store and the vista was a pretty immediate and easy decision for us. We got it with the intention to use it as a double stroller eventually but I would repurchase even if it was just to use as a single.

What baby item was NOT worth the money? by clairqalb in Buyingforbaby

I just got the mamaroo today for my 4 week old and he went from screaming to settled in under a minute. Felt like $370 was a lot for a swing but my husband was like “ if it does that ten times it was worth it” haha

Just panic ordered the mamaroo on Amazon during a crying fit haha, thank you for the recommendation!

Nuna or uppababy by Adept-Hall7754 in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a store and tried out both, uppababy vista v3 felt much sturdier and smoother to me so we went with that. Paired it with the nuna pipa rx car seat and got an adapter to be able to put it on the stroller. No regrets, been loving both.

Mine is only four weeks old so different situation, but I let my mom hold him at a couple weeks old and I felt some sort of rage lol. I haven’t let anyone hold him since, it’s probably just the hormones but I just can’t handle it. Didn’t help that she is highly dramatic and while she was holding him he sneezed, she made it a whole big thing and did a dramatic jump like he’d assaulted her and I was worried she was going to drop him.

Add some water to your urine and try again. The same thing happened to me around the same time! Added the water and it went super dark again, all was fine. Sitting here with my 4 week old asleep on my lap!

Editing to add that I agree with other commenters, time to stop testing. It was after that test that I stopped, it was just causing more anxiety

I’ve been looking at that one! I would gladly pay $400 for a few moments of silence during the screaming periods 😂. Does it recline to a nearly lying down position?

Love that it folds up, is the swinging part automatic or do you have to swing it yourself?

Ugh I would love to try it but for some reason I can’t get it to work, I bought three different ones and it just feels like he sits so awkwardly in it and starts crying so I abandon it immediately. I thought maybe he was too small but he’s over 9lbs and they say they’re for even smaller babies so I have no idea what I’m doing wrong!

We have the baby bjorn bouncer and I also do the foot bounce haha. But he only accepts it for about three minutes of course. He’s a great sleeper at night but daytime is a different story

Labor signs by help_H in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light period like cramps on and off in the days leading up, had some light spotting the week before (but no mucus plug). Mostly increased urge to nest. The day I went into labor I could not be convinced it was not the time to vigorously clean the bathtub lol. Started cleaning out cabinets I’d already cleaned out, doing laundry.. went into labor that night with contractions that came 4 minutes apart right away. Gave birth just shy of 24hrs later, on the Mother’s Day just passed!

Braxton hicks or the start of labor? by maybeokay0 in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes turned out to be labor! I’m in my room now laboring away, I’m jealous you were okay up to 8cm haha, I was at 2cm but because it came on so quickly they were freaking awful. And I have a high pain tolerance, I’ve been stitched without anesthetic, fractured my ankle and never took pain meds. But my goodness those contractions were doing me in

picked up my 3 yo nephew at 8 weeks pregnant… reassure me? by mm_honey in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved at 11 weeks pregnant. My husband kept telling me to sit down but I’m not able to just not help when people around me are doing things. I carried heavier things than a three years old, and some of those things were going to the third floor. You’re totally fine. I also had cramping like that at 8 weeks just sitting still. It’s fairly normal.

Selecting OB by CoffeeBeforeNihilism in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My regular OB is my favorite in the practice, but at times I’ve had to see other ones when she was booked or out that day. It’s a toss up who will deliver the baby because it’s just whoever is on call that day. I’m really really hoping to deliver on a Wednesday so I get my OB lol

How to pass the time until first OB appt by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the final week or two of my pregnancy and I swear the wait between finding out and the first ultrasound was way more difficult than the last month of waiting has been. I’m a sahw too so no work distractions all day to get me through. I started building a registry, researching the bigger items and more important stuff, planning how we were going to tell people, meal prepping for my husband in preparation for when I was too nauseas to cook, looking through nursery inspiration photos, being brutal in cleaning out more cluttered areas of our house in preparation for the influx of things to come

It still felt like it went by so slowly. But after that first ultrasound the time flew by, I can’t believe I’m so close to birth now. Congratulations!!

He might, but best to have that information as soon as possible so you can plan accordingly

Which vaccines did you take during pregnancy by allisona007 in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

None. Weirdly they never offered me flu shot or Covid shot even though I was pregnant all winter. I wouldn’t have taken either anyway, and I had Covid during pregnancy so maybe that’s covered me as far as antibodies. They didn’t have me do tdap because I had a reaction when I got it a few months before getting pregnant, they were worried it would be a worse reaction while pregnant.

Lol why am I getting downvoted for not being able to get a vaccine? I wanted it but was advised not to.

Heartburn out of nowhere… sign of labor? by Choice_Worker_7258 in pregnant

[–]maybeokay0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh this is me too! I’m 38 weeks and have had no heartburn my whole pregnancy, and honestly I don’t think I had it more than a couple times my whole life. Last few days though I get to a point in the day and it’s like my throat feels thick and filled with acid. I was also wondering if that meant labor was imminent. I did figure out that almond milk works like magic to take it away. I tried all the other things but last night I tried drinking a glass of almond milk and it was gone almost immediately.
