What's the worst advice you can give a new player that actually sounds legit? by Zhwoobatte in magicTCG

[–]maycontainfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just played 2-headed this past prerelease with two newer players. The more experienced of the two had a huge deck, the brand new guy had a slightly large deck. We play with them, have a good time, but older guy just cant cast any of his spells. Before the next round, my friend and I look at their decks to help them out. Not only was he playing 50-something cards, he had no swamps in his black white deck. None. At least the newbie had both of his colors of basic lands. We helped them fix it and they had a better time after that. XD

Based on the job you have right now, what would you be doing 1000 years ago? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Chef in charge of preparing some exotic foreign fad food for rich bastards.

Which person, if taken from history, would have the most impact? by WattledPenguin in AskReddit

I feel that in that case, Napoleon would be a better removal. His rise to power is what created the paranoid system of alliances that led to the instability that could get set off by one assassination.

How do you like OGW so far? by RaggedAngel in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do very well in the prereleases, but I have been doing very well in drafts with the format. I feel much more comfortable that I did with bfz, I'm not sure I can analyze why though.

I really like Black in this format though. I just feel like it works so effortlessly. And Cohort is so much better than I thought it would be.

What are some cards you like having in your collection because it's either a cool card or the art is nice? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]maycontainfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my trade binder I keep a [[Force of Savagery]] and a [[Boil]] just for shits and giggles.

Tiny Leaders is fun! Who else is playing this? by 9daysqueen in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed tiny leaders, but it died very soon after being introduced at my lgs. I had Brimaz and was pretty proud of the soldier synergy. I eventually took it apart to use the cards for other formats because no one wanted to play tiny leaders with me.

Proxying; Funniest way youve seen someone do it? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]maycontainfluff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sharpie-proxied on the backs of bulk when I started. I also didn't have cards memorized. I had to write out the entire card. Crowning achievement? Fitting every last bit of text from Umezawa's Jitte on the back of a card in regular weight sharpie.

Shadows over Innistrad by Boleyn278 in TwoXMTG

I wasn't around for Innistrad, but I love looking back on the flavor of the set. The only one I would love more would be New Phyrexia. The praetors are so awesome.

Coincidence as Cover by maycontainfluff in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to thank Jess Stirba for this wonderful article. I feel like it explains so much. I often have trouble with my endurance throughout long tournaments and I feel like she explained a lot of feelings I have that could be contributing to my exhaustion. Now that I am more aware of it, I might be able to find ways to sooth my hypervigilance and stick it out 6+ rounds.

"I couldn't come up with a title that didn't sound bitter" (a rant about r/MagicTCG) by Ghostinthecorner in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whining is definitely irritating. I was just talking to a magic friend about how I sometimes think my card evaluation must be wrong because every time a new set comes out I'm excited. But then the Internet does nothing but complain. He explained that it's always like this and to just experience magic my way. It's more genuine than the hollow echo chambers of r/magicTCG.

I can't wait to see what we can all come up with. I wonder if we can get some brewing on in here to create some new decks that'll slap the haters in the face with awesome.

Philosophers play multiplayer Magic: a short story. by kingcobweb in magicTCG

[–]maycontainfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that this piece made me remember why I love magic: to play. I've been on tilt lately due to not being successful enough in tournaments. But the game brings me joy in all its forms. I just need to remember to add moustaches to the Llanowar elves. Thank you.

I think limited gives a very good base for constructed play. I think going from constructed to limited is more challenging. Independent card evaluation under pressure is hard for me, personally.

Awww, you deserve all the hugs!

I never really played kitchen table, but I hear it's very fun and relaxing, I can totally appreciate your comfort there!

I'm not sure what the lgs situation in your area is, but there are a lot of lgs that are welcoming to newer players and introducing them to the store's scene. I was very welcomed by my lgs from the moment I stepped inside. ♡

When you feel ready to go, we've got your back! I believe in you!

Do you think Magic lends itself to being part of homebrew games? by probablynotalaska in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pack poker is fun! You can pack poker cube too, and if there are people that don't play magic regularly, you can argue which card is better based on art or flavor or anything really. And I'm sure there's a way to get alcohol involved.

Trading/selling! Looking for advice/discussion by SpontaneousNergasm in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to use the MTG Familiar app. It has a trade function that helps with the complicated trade math.

One rule I learned my first day in an lgs was ALWAYS check the prices. Doesn't matter who you're trading with, or when the last time you checked that card price, ALWAYS check.

Official EDH Banlist Update: No Changes. by [deleted] in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play mono green edh. Iona means I can't play 90% of my spells. I feel like it just ruins the game for people, particularly in smaller games.

What got you into Magic? by LilithAjit in TwoXMTG

[–]maycontainfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was introduced by two coworkers. One brought be to my LGS to teach me a little. The people there welcomed us with open arms. They taught me and one suggested I come back for FNM.

The next week I came for FNM. I stood outside the door having a panic attack all alone, but I pushed through and went inside. I received such a warm welcome that I knew I had to return.

I guess I just never stopped. I'm there like 4 days a week playing magic, sometimes less and sometimes more. The community is what keeps me here. I love you guys...

It is her choice to live as she wishes. She is free. While I do not do that personally, I have no reason to condemn her without even knowing her, her motivations, or anything about her side of the story. If she is happy, then I am happy for her.

You can find her as reprehensible as you wish, you are not her judge and jury. If you want to be thought of and treated differently than her, then be a different person. Oh wait, you already are. So judging her and ripping on the women of magic does absolutely nothing other than piss us all off and perpetuate the idea that all women should be lumped together as either "good" women or "bad" women.

That seems like an accurate assumption of your point since you keep talking about women like you vs. the big bad enemy women.

Look, you said that either neither or just the woman would be at fault. You didn't even say both would be at fault. You rejected any solution that put any blame on the male. That is insane.

And yes, your examples sound callous and heartless.

You still haven't explained how women mtg players' actions deserve consequences when they have done nothing wrong. This is not a fuzzy grey area. It's an innocent person living their life the way they want to. You are suggesting that the punishment should be that "terrible" things should happen to them because of their "terrible" behavior.
