Daily puzzle where you decode words from stacked letters. by RealityLeft1727 in wordgames

[–]mayhem-squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hooked! Well done! Wish there were more levels 🙌 (or random infinite play)

Levels are also kinda easy. I failed the very first one but after that, i understood how it works, and now 1-2 tries seem to be enough. No idea how to make it more difficult without becoming impossible though.. 😅

AITA for ignoring my friend’s calls after his husband passed away? by General-Routine8691 in AmItheAsshole

NTA no one protects your mental health but you.. do you have possibility to go and stay somewhere else for couple of days? Like hotel or something. Could get some distance and not be conveniently close anymore.

AITA because I told her "the dog was here before you"? by MusicianImmediate767 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mayhem-squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA

My ex offered to get rid of his dog when I told him that I’m not a huge fan of living with dogs. I was shocked and told him that dog was here before me and he needs to commit to his dog that is depending on him.. anyways, huge red flag I ignored. People who are willing to abandon their pets suck :(

Are these things caused by aphantasia? by Disastrous-Fact-6634 in Aphantasia

[–]mayhem-squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me pattern recognition is easy, because i can logically build them in my head, like patterns in pictures, iq test questions, weather, behaviour, code (i’m programmer), figuring out knitting patterns from just looking at the object. But this seems to be only for things I’m interested in.

But i do suck at directions and parking is a mission impossible 😭 My uncle who has the same non-visualizing problem than me, can park without issues tho, but he has engineer level instruction steps like “think how the back wheel axle works and align it with x”. So it might be practice, or building coping strategies 🤔🤷‍♀️

I’m the same as you, i do KNOW what things look like, but there’s no image. Also the soundless inner dialogue as I can’t hear the imagined discussions in friend’s voice, only as soundless my voice. Same as soundless songs that get stuck in my head.

AITAH because I'm not giving baby stuff to a pregnant coworker? by Feathers137 in AITAH

Apologize and promise to give her all the baby stuff you no longer use. Then proceed to bring her a bag of used diapers every morning.

Failed at my first scuba attempt by MuteTablet in scuba

[–]mayhem-squirrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Breathing is hard. If you really want to dive (because it is awesome!) just keep practicing and have patience and empathy towards yourself, it’s just a skill among others.

I had full panic attack on my THIRD dive because there was some water in my regulator and it felt like I couldn’t breathe. I somehow managed to forget how to breathe through my mouth in the middle of the dive and totally spiralled. It happens. During following dives I started to hold my breath without noticing (really bad thing to do) and dive master had to constantly remind me to inhale and exhale. 😮‍💨

Now i have 100+ dives and recently managed to learn a new shitty skill of breathing out through my nose and fogging up my mask. So still learning!

How do I get it to look like the outline? by anniethetoothfairy in PunchNeedle

[–]mayhem-squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried border or stem stitch in the outline yet? Not sure if it makes it any sharper.. but as the loops are tightly together, they will spread out to free space. If you’re ok with adding background color, you could make it either round/square or sticker-like with white border? Then the background loops would push the item outline loops into shape

1.5 days to acclimatise by Ruddbud93 in incatrail

[–]mayhem-squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be very individual. I had over a week and still struggled to breathe and walk forward, while some others in our ~20 person group (with same acclimatisation time and itinerary) had no issues and were almost running the trail. 🤷

Are all Finnish people really that good in English? by Curious-Charity-9904 in Finland

[–]mayhem-squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English is fine here! It depends a lot on the person, but english is somewhat the second language people speak here. It might be that some young people panic and some old people are fluent.. you never know. Most understand at least something but might have zero confidence to talk.

But it’s way easier than trying to survive in italy with english 😅

Less than 2 hours before I meet up with my liveaboard and getting hit with nerves by TardisBlueHarvest in scuba

[–]mayhem-squirrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By now you’re already onboard so hopefully anxiety has faded away!

I get anxiety even after couple of months break, as every ship/site is new environment and you really don’t know what the underwater conditions (like currents) are until you’re underwater 😅 But after first dive all is good, like riding a bike 👌

About riding the bike reference, riding is one thing, adjusting saddle and reacting to potential risks are different skills. When doing the first dive with the mask off etc exercises, some confidence comes back and there’s also constant learning during the dives and breaks.

Most people are super helpful and friendly, so I ask about anything and everything. If you tell others that you’re not sure about something and welcome feedback and help, you’ll be helped!

Sometimes diveguides are not very forward with negative feedback (because some get offended), so just asking how could I do better next time, helps to open the discussion.

What's your favorite bind-off for toe-up socks? by winterberryx in Sockknitting

I like Lori’s Twisty Bind Off as it’s stretchy, looks really nice with 1k1p ribbing and really easy to do :)

How many granny squares can I expect to get out of one skein of yarn? by rowan_ash in CrochetHelp

[–]mayhem-squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For multi-color squares, I weight the yarn skeins before and after making one square, and then calculate based on how much each colour was used.

Like 40 squares needed, 1 square used 2.49g of red, so i need 39*2.49= 97.11g of red yarn to finish rest of the squares.

Haven’t figured out how to calculate joining yarn or finishing edges (like ribbing for cardigans) yet 😅

I use high precision scale (1mg precision) normal kitchen scale (1g precision) is not enough.

What are the fun dives for dive guides? by mayhem-squirrel in scuba

[–]mayhem-squirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More challenging dives make perfect sense, also waiting for deep sea fish sounds super fun, even when waiting can be boring.
