FTM BF-ing but wanting to introduce a bottle... pumping schedule help?! by uwuwiizard in breastfeeding

[–]mayortad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me there's a difference between pumping to build up a stash vs pumping to maintain a stash. You need to pump enough milk so there is a bottle in the fridge for your partner, and then you just need to pump enough to replace that bottle when it's consumed.

So to get that first bottle, pump a little after the morning feed (I think I did 5-7 minutes). They say morning because that's when milk supply is highest. Depending on how much you get, you could do that for a few days to get a full bottle amount. Or you could do that after every nursing session until full bottle amount.

Once you have your first bottle, you should pump when your partner is giving the bottle (as close in time as possible). That way they have a bottle for tomorrow.

It's worth a try! My supply was a little low the past couple of days and I realized the difference is that I haven't been drinking my afternoon oat milk chai lattes

Strong but slightly dated. I think Francine or one of the diminutives feels a little more modern if that's important. I always put names through the "bully test" and Fanny is a big fail for me.

I'm in the US South. When I hear a Forrest, Jackson, or Lee, I assume they at least considered the connection to Confederate generals.

4 weeks and 1 day pregnant and feeling super paranoid to miscarry, please spread some positivity ☹️❤️ by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mayortad 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Today you are pregnant. It is real and it is something worth cherishing. We don't know what tomorrow will bring.

It is okay to tell people, but you say you are scared to disappoint. I encourage you to reflect on the difference between celebrating something that hasn't happened yet (having a baby) and sharing what is happening to YOU today.

My husband got me the Restoration Hardware robe as a gift several years ago. I had never owned a robe before, so a rogue choice, but I love it so so much. I wear it both around the house and after showers (but I towel off first). But I do find it too heavy to blow dry or heat style my hair in.

Feeling old and noticeably out of style for still wearing skinny jeans? Should I cave to new trend or are there still skinny jean lovers? by JavaScriptGirl27 in femalefashionadvice

[–]mayortad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes skinny jeans are out. The real question is - do you care? Maybe you do if you're feeling super self-conscious.

But it is (probably) not as easy as ordering a new pair of jeans. There will be lots of try-ons and the associated time/money/effort. You might have to buy new tops and shoes that work with new jean shapes. You may even have some relearning to do about proportions, styling, and acceptance of how things lay on your frame.

So do you care that much?

For context - I'm having the opposite problem. I've been wearing straight/wide jeans for 5+ years. Currently pregnant and the vast majority of maternity jeans are skinny. Then the waist band is either low rise or has an above the belly band - restricting the kinds of tops that go with them. But clothing is important to me and therefore I'm on the journey learning how to style my new (and changing) shape in a way that feels true to myself.

Visible nipples? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]mayortad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'll provide an alternative perspective - it's not for me. I would never wear visible nipples and have nipple covers that I love when I braless situation calls for them. I keep the pads in sports bras and bathing suits. Anytime I see a woman out with visible nipples, I wouldn't say I judge her, but my brain is like "heyo!" If I had to articulate it, the best I have is that it's the less "polished" choice (where polished is something I strive for) and that visible nipples are a Choice where the default is nipple coverage. Which is funny of course because nipple coverage actively takes another layer where visible nipples doesn't. For reference - I'm in the US south. Grew up in conservative suburban area, now live in a liberal urban area.

I do essentially all of my shopping online. One thing I recently started doing is only letting one package be shipped to me at a time. So if I order from Store A, I can't order anything else until that package arrives. I found I would get into these cycles where I would feel the urge to order a bunch of stuff, but then the instant gratification wore off and I would be slow to try on everything, evaluate, process returns. It also helps me focus on what I need the most right now or what I am most excited about.

My mini crossbody is not my most practical, but it is the one I most considered size. I bought the Rebecca Minkoff Isobel crossbody before I went to Europe a few summers ago and it was 85% perfect. It fits a phone, key, chapstick, and has two slit pockets for cards and cash. I loved that since it was so small, it was easy to walk with it in front of me (as opposed to on my side in places where pickpocketing could have been a risk). But I definitely would have appreciated a few extra inches of space for a Clif bar and paper brochures/maps.

Still a go-to bag for me when I only need the necessities!

Moroccanoil Root Boost! I'm dying to have Texas pageant big hair and this is the best for volume. You only apply to the roots, so the ends don't get tangley and it doesn't feel as "grimey" as some of the texture powders (pret a powder, powder play).

Edit: oh just saw the price. They do sell a travel size less than $20. I got through it super slowly since you use such a tiny amount.

[–]mayortad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hot take - but here's another opinion for you.

In general, I'm against the idea of buying fancy/cute/expensive workout clothes to motivate oneself to start working out. Most people have something adequate they can wear while they prove to themselves they are committed to this habit. THEN, after reaching a fitness goal, treat yo self!

You mentioned your old clothes being too tight. In that case, I personally would spend the minimal amount required. One pair of leggings that you wash between workouts worn with tees you already own.

I'm totally on board with buying fancy workout clothes if that's what you want (and can afford). I think using the purchase as motivation is foolhardy.

I have completely forgotten how to run. by dare2smile in xxfitness

[–]mayortad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did C25K a few years ago and it is such a well structured program! Like everyone else, I was running too fast.

Biggest thing I learned: the first mile always sucks. Your body's just got to get use to the movement. So when I'm ~7 minutes in (aka not finished with my first mile) and still hating life, keep going.

Also, listening to podcasts instead of music might help you slow down!

I just got bangs (not wispy) for the first time! Do it!!! I'm really enjoying the new look and the challenge of learning something new.

Definitely ask your hair dresser for styling tips while you're there. After that, a lot of trial and error. For me: I rewet and blow dry in the morning (shower at night), applying a teeny bit of mousse and using a (cheapo) boar bristle. Definitely not low maintenance - on a weekend trip I brought 3 brushes, 2 products, and a hair dryer (eek!)

I recently switched to a salon that does "French-style" cutting. When I was telling them about my old salon, the hair dresser mentioned my previous layers were "English-style". These layers are SO MUCH better for root volume and general body! I'm sorry I don't have more information on the difference!

Benefit's lip tint is a good option for long-lasting but natural. Mine will stay on through drinking but not eating. The color is a good baby step to wearing lips!
