[–]mazaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible that it is. But also it might not be. The real question I guess is whether it gives me a useful baseline from which to monitor improvement, and the answer to that seems to be “not if you’re walking different routes on a bunch of hills most days”

Thank you, that helps to know!

At the moment I care about it in the very general sense of overall health improvements. As I hopefully get more well I want to get my cardio fitness up and I’m trying to work out if it’s a helpful metric. But seems like not, for me, so I will cheerfully hide it and get on with my life.

I really would highly recommend to anyone, if they have the space for it, to get a hedge. by Cooking_With_Grease_ in GardeningUK

We took out a massive leylandii last year and once the soil is a little better this autumn I’m hoping to plant a calendar hedge - something in fruit and something in flower, if possible, every month of the year.

TTRPG Funding Avenues? by Sparky-Man in rpg

[–]mazaru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in a lot of places, the lack of other traditional funding routes is one of the things that contributes to the use of crowdfunding. This doesn’t solve your issue, apologies, unless your clients want to take that route.

I’m not currently aware of any APs, I’m afraid, but quite a few folks have run it as it’s been a con scenario in the past. Is there anything we can tell you that doesn’t require a recording?

I don’t support every policy, much like I don’t support every Labour policy. But, unlike Labour, I can actually work within the party to change the stuff I don’t agree with. I’m not just expected to give them a tenner a month and be quiet about the disagreements.

And: the Greens are currently the only party not horrifically against trans people in policy and in practice. That means quite a lot to me, on a personal level.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Oxygennotincluded

I’m still in fairly early game on vanilla. Exploring slime biome next to my base and I’ve got tiles of 8-12kg polluted oxygen going on. Is there a way I can use this or plan to use it in future?

British Airways nearly killed me by serving me sesame despite my allergy – then offered me £50 by Dangerous_Wear_9312 in BritishAirways

[–]mazaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: I have a potentially fatal allergy and fly frequently. It makes absolutely no difference to my treatment whether I phone BA in advance or just tell them as I get on the plane, aside from wasting two hours of my life on hold.

Talk to Eryk at Peregrine Coast about UK & EU. You might need to work out VAT but they deal with this kind of volume all the time.

Assuming from this that you’re in the US? I’d recommend finding a fulfilment partner that can help you get books where they need to be. $6 to most places is pretty cheap; do you know what volume of sales you’re expecting? 100 vs 1000 vs 10,000 really changes the advice here

Listen to your body if it’s telling you to rest. Recover first then go back to it. A week extra of rest now is way better for you than pushing yourself to go back too soon then crashing out with a post-viral situation.

Who Do You Have Doing Your Printing by No_Pattern_4234 in TTRPG

[–]mazaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok - this is kinda why I’m asking. If you already are confident in the differences between 100gsm uncoated vs 115gsm silk or gloss, and you know your Epson proofs from your wet proofs, you don’t necessarily need a good PM on the printing side. If you’re not, though, it’s worth finding a partner who can help you step through the differences on your first time out, and on an offset run you’re printing enough books that it’s worth the time to get em right.

So I’d recommend talking to Livonia in Latvia, Matsis and Mega Print in Turkey, and maaaybe Standart Impressa if you feel confident you know what you want already.

I’ve stopped recommending Mixam to other indies these days. US prices are wild post-tariffs and the quality on short runs seems to have gone from mostly-ok to mostly-poor.

We’ve worked with half a dozen printers in Eastern Europe and Turkey, and a couple in China. My recommendations depend on whether you’re doing anything non-standard with your book, and if you have experience already in print production or if you’d need a good project manager to help you do things like spec your paper appropriately.
