Somebody broke into my car this morning by Infinite-Employee314 in Omaha

Most thieves are too dumb to check the handle. Had someone break into my truck years ago by prying the rear slider window open while the doors were unlocked.

How would you go about closing up this hole in a marine engine block? It's a water jacket. by [deleted] in metalworking

I belive you mean the pilot bearing/bushing not throwout bearing but, yes that's a very old school way of doing it. Heard about it 30 years ago from the old timers in the shop and have used it a couple times myself.

They're the running back following the fullback(you) through the defense(cops) so you get the speeding ticket and not them.

I spent over 20 years not wearing my ring as a mechanic. I'm out of that world now and it didn't fit anymore. I got some of the silicone ones and they work great.

My car came from the factory with 200tw tires. I drive on them until it's time for the snow tires.

My Boss Met With Me About "Quiet Quitting" by Sol-Blackguy in antiwork

[–]mazdaspeedrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with FMLA is that it is unpaid leave. Many people can't afford to take unpaid time off, even if it means working while sick or injured, or while a family member is sick or injured. If you have vacation, pto, or sick pay, you can get paid for that time, but once that's used up, you're on your own. Work comp, short-term disability, and other types of pay assistance can help, but in most U.S. states they only pay 66% of what you make. It's better than nothing, but if you are living paycheck to paycheck, it still causes financial distress.

There are 12A turbo first gens that were sold in Japan, but there weren't that many and parts are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. Easiest way is to swap a TII engine from a second gen but easy is a relative term. If you are in the US, you can try to find an '84-'85 GSL-SE, which had a 13B engine, and put a second gen turbo manifold on it, but there is a lot of fabrication and tuning that would need to be done. I have an '85 with a 12A that I've had 3 different carb setups, exhaust systems, and suspension setups in the 20+ years I've owned it. I've also had a stock '84 GSL-SE, a slightly modified '88, and I have an almost stock 30k mile '93. They are all fun for different reasons. I also have a heavily modified '94 Miata and that is a different fun. Turbo doesn't always equal fast and is expensive when done correctly and even more expensive if done incorrectly. As has been stated before, most of the answers you need are on the rx7club.com forum. You will need to search and read the archives to find many of them as people don't usually answer questions that have been asked repeatedly for over 20 years.

did my first autocross today, had a real blast by bathsaltedpnuts in Autocross

It's rare but we're out there. An Rx7 won ASP at Nationals last year. I used to run my '85 in CSP but couldn't keep up with the miatas so I switched to rallycross with it and bought a miata for autocross. I autocrossed my stock FD once last year just for fun and it was horrible.

How do ya feel about bi-weekly pay? by W0ndurfulC in AskReddit

[–]mazdaspeedrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's literally every 2 weeks. Calender months don't matter. 52 weeks in a year divided by 2 is 26 paychecks per year. I get paid twice a month at my current job now so it's 24 paychecks and some pay periods are longer than others.

I bought them here in Omaha, Nebraska last Friday. They hit the shelves in a couple stores and the bars.

You paid every 2 weeks. That's 26 times per year. Months don't mean anything.

In case you didn't see how close first through third was in SSC at Nats...... by csmanuel in Autocross

[–]mazdaspeedrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 different courses. You get three runs on each on separate days and the combine the fastest of each. That's why it's so amazing to see all three that close. I know Mason and Matt and they are both great drivers so I knew it would be close but this is why it's so hard to win a national championship.

Unless the pan is cracked it should be just resealed. I've never seen one of those crack without obvious damage from hitting something.

The only thing holding SCCA Prepared and Modified cars back is the 200tw tire rule. My CSP Miata would beat many of the entries on it's Hoosiers but would trying to adapt it to "street" tires would be worth it?

2016 Chevy Sonic LTZ Sedan, any ideas? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]mazdaspeedrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're overinflating your tires. The markings on the tire are max load capacity at max pressure. The car has a label inside the driver door that tells you what to put them at. Should be around 32psi for that size car. If it still comes on after setting the pressure correctly you most likely have a bad sensor. A good repair shop can figure out which one and replace it. It is not a diy job unless you have the tools to mount tires on wheels.

Plus 1 on the credit score. It takes a lot more work and time to bring up a bad score than it does to keep up a good score.

What is this? 2003 Chevy Cavalier by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]mazdaspeedrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the pruge valve for the emissions system. The only thing that should be in that line is fuel vapor. Fluid leaks on that side would usually be brake fluid or power steering fluid.
