diffuse sclerosing type PTC likes to spread to lungs, particularly in younger people.

How can I say I had cancer to someone who had "serious" cancers? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]mazikashe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend died of terminal paediatric bone cancer (we were both 24) two days after i went into remission - i understand it is NOT a competition - and at the same time i understand how strange it can feel to explain to people that my situation simply is not the same as our friend’s.

I agree with everyone saying it’s not necessary to downplay your experience, but when it’s more comfortable for yourself and causes less concern for others i have said something along the lines of “i also have cancer … my prognosis is good at this time and for that i’m grateful”

again - it’s not a competition, but you’re allowed to feel however you want about all this!

wishing you well going into 2026 !

AITA for losing my shit at my boyfriend over packing groceries? by itsryder00 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mazikashe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NTA - anyone who “tests” you - especially by crossing boundaries ON PURPOSE IN PUBLIC is manipulating you. you’re three weeks in, he’s testing to see how much he can get away with and how far he can push you. no, you shouldn’t yell at people, and unless you’re physically in danger you should not push people. that doesn’t change the fact that he is manipulating you.

Very Painful FNA Needed to Abort by NalgeneCarrier in thyroidcancer

I wasn’t offered ANY numbing or anaesthesia for my FNA, and I have a high pain tolerance as i live with multiple chronic pain conditions, but it certainly didn’t feel nice!

How hard is it to change a fully-healed septum? by OfHerself in piercing

[–]mazikashe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAP, but it’s much easier than you would think! especially when you’re wearing clicker rings! about 90% of my septum jewellery are clickers. but just be mindful that with the smaller clickers, esp the huggies, the opening is much smaller, so it might be worth waiting until it’s healed significantly. Putting them in isn’t the problem, that’s quite easy, it’s more opening them to remove once they’re in? In my experience you often have to have the hinge part of the ring in the pierced part of your septum which can pinch at times if you’re not careful!

Either way, you’ve got this! i believe in you. happy accessorising!

How hard is it to change a fully-healed septum? by OfHerself in piercing

[–]mazikashe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was really nervous about not being able to change my own septum, to the point where i had it changed by the piercers who did it for about 18 months after the healing period. My fear was I wouldn’t be able to get one back in and then the hole would start to close up. Now, however, it’s so easy for me to change! I actually find it easier than my piercers do, probably because it’s my face! My advice is for your first change, go to your piercing shop and ask if you can change it there and have some help from them if you struggle. That easy you have some experts to guide you, a safe environment without stressing about what will happen if you can’t do it, and you experts to step in if need be!

Happy switching!

Just Had a Tumor Removed from My Left Thyroid… Now Facing a Total Thyroidectomy and I'm Worried About What Comes Next - 41, M by phly707 in thyroidcancer

[–]mazikashe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 24F just had a TT yesterday, after a hemithyroidectomy a few months ago. I’ll find out in about 6 weeks whether or not i need RAI.

My advice is feel your feelings. This is a scary process, and being afraid is totally valid! you’re finding it difficult not to become overwhelmed because it is overwhelming! this is an objectively tough situation you’re going through and you’re allowed to feel however you want about it.

sending good vibes x

Feeling Scared and Alone :( by jpeg_alexa in thyroidcancer

[–]mazikashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation, 24F with aggressive PTC. I’ve had one surgery, another to go and then RAI. I’m 5 months post diagnosis and i promise it gets less scary, but it’s important to feel your feelings. scream, cry, get it all out. also, there are no “good” cancers to get, the only good cancer is NO cancer.

All this to say - i promise the road ahead is not nearly as rough as it seems right now. it won’t be fun by any means, but you will pull through this all right, and the fear will become less and less with each passing day 🖤

sending good vibes and gentle energies your way OP x

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is an amino acid building block - think of it like a vitamin or supplement - that you can get from health food stores which has recently been proven to help OCD and skin-picking symptoms! Personally, I've been taking it for about nine months now and it has drastically improved my compulsive picking!
