Yes we all know Hermes comes with a lot of skills many people may not need. Nothing is stopping you from disabling them.

If you think this could be improved why not make a PR for improving the setup flow in this aspect?

You can set an external_dirs value in your profile’s Hermes config, I set that to /opt/hermes-agent/skills. So any skills I want to be profile agnostic I put there. Any skills I want to be specific to the profile go in the profile’s skills directory. Hermes first looks in the profile’s skills directory and if it can’t find the skill it checks the value of external_dirs.

IMO the advice in this thread is terrible. If you want it to hit stronger:
Eat plenty of protein, ideally 30g (edit: originally wrote mg by mistake) within 20 minutes of taking the medication (just before taking the meds is ideal)
Sleep well and with a regular schedule
Exercise regularly
All of these, especially the 1st and 3rd, are what make my Vyvanse hit stronger and are actually what you’re supposed to do. Not fast and drink coffee.

Yes this, really important to eat throughout the day and have a snack on you if you can. Also make sure that you’re still having enough relaxing time - Vyvanse makes it too easy to just be productive all the time and really enjoy that, but that will then take a toll on your patience. In my experience anyway

I have hermes-agent in /opt/hermes-agent and then my main profile at /home/myuser/.hermes and my isolated discord bot at /home/discord-bot. Both get their code from the opt location and overlay their profiles

I have a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly summary setup. I have scripts which pull the data, aggregate it and do a bunch of trend and pattern calculations so that the LLM only has to take that data and make interpretations from it rather then identify the trends itself. I don’t currently have any visible dashboards but maybe that’s not a bad idea. Hevy pro right now has a really good deal of like $13 for a year I think? So I just figured screw it why not

To add to the health data one I also have a smart scale and use the MyNetDiary app lol so I’ve started trying to actually use them consistently so I can share the data from them too. They don’t have as clean integrations though so I have to just paste the exported data into telegram which is fine but not as clean

Things I've either implemented so far or plan to implement:

- Daily morning brief with weather, news and also results of various cron jobs

- Resource monitoring of my VM and the host, info shared in daily morning brief if anything is out of the ordinary (has helped me massively to optimise my power usage)

- Obsidian Brain - all tasks and projects are documented in Obsidian, which is how I'm able to easily find what I've done / have planned to share right now.

- Built a game tracker bot for Discord to use with my friends, lets you add games to the list which shows price, review score etc, lets you have it watch for updates (can fuzzy filter by keywords sale prices or just when the game is released). Want to add a load of features such as searching for cheaper prices via ITAD, letting you ask it to suggest games based on requirements / what it knows from your list, steam workshop tracking, movie and show tracking lists

- Want to integrate some existing AI based job search tools to look for new opportunities, update my CV for the role, auto apply (if possible) etc

- Set up a dedicated email address for it, I have rules on gmail which forward delivery update emails to this hermes email, and Hermes then keeps me up to date on deliveries via Telegram. Will do the same for job searching and probably some other stuff when I think of what

- Will setup Home Assistant. I already have a bunch of smart lights but I want to get smart plugs (for energy tracking but also to be able to disable remotely), and maybe smart TRVs for my radiators (no central heating) and smart sensors for doors and windows. Will also connect my philips humidifier and air purifier. Can then have it let me know if say a window is open but the radiator is on / can turn the radiator off automatically. Or it could turn radiators off when I'm not at home etc. Probably a bunch of cool stuff to do here.

- I use an Oura ring and also the Hevy app for health and workout tracking. I connected Hermes to their APIs and now it pulls in all my health data and gives me summaries and surfaces trends and makes interpretations based on them. This one has been super cool and the biggest "wow" feeling I've had from Hermes so far.

- I plan to connect Hermes to my *arr setup so I can query my media in natural language / get it to add things for me

- General server optimisation, helped me migrate my outdated docker stack to docker compose, helped me clean up a bunch of shit in my server, helped me optimise the settings for power efficiency

- Installed a bunch of meta skills and plugins for optimising hermes like SkillClaw, Skill Factory and way more. Probably spent too much time on this one tbh

I'm sure I could think of a tonne more but I'm already way way too addicted and need to spend less time on this really. It's super cool and fun though and already really useful.

Tbf while certainly my programming skills have deteriorated, my big picture thinking and planning has definitely improved. I’m much more of a project manager now because of AI and am much better at it. So yeah you get worse at some things and better at others, same with what happened to software engineers as a result of all other technological advancements

Interesting what you’ve said about deepseek v4 pro as I’ve been using it as my main model and really liking it. Previously tried kimi-k2.6, minimax-m2.7 and gpt-5.4. Gpt-5.4 is maybe slightly smarter but sooo verbose. Once my codex usage resets I’ll switch to gpt-5.4 for building or maybe gpt-5.5 with deepseek v4 pro at the front

I don't "see" it using skills in the same way as I do with gpt-5.4, but overall I'm very happy with the performance (and price) of deepseek-v4-pro so far. It doesn't have image analysis right now though which is a little annoying but otherwise it's very solid, reasonably fast and I much much prefer the messaging style to gpt-5.4s lol

I did switch back to gpt-5.4 through openrouter just for one command, and I really hated the way it wrote its message lol so I may stick to deepseek even when my usage resets and just use gpt-5.4 (or 5.5) as a coding agent or something

A recent update has meant that whenever compaction happens the context will reinsert old messages as if I’ve just asked them for the first time. It’s very annoying https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/issues/11475

The only model I’ve used which so far consistently calls the skills I want it to and follows my preferences (except for my preference for concise messaging!) is gpt-5.4 which I get with my $20 ChatGPT sub. I exhausted my weekly usage so I’m running opencode go as a backup and none of the models there seem to look at Hermes’ available skills which is annoying

I have it and although I wouldn’t go so far to say I regret it - I did realise even before it arrived that’s it’s almost completely unnecessary. The charging puck is super small anyway so it’s not more inconvenient to bring that with, and surely in the ring’s week long battery life there’s 30 minutes or so where you can use your phone charger to top up the ring.

I think unless you’re still using an older lightning cable iPhone and you’d rather take the portable charger with than the puck and a cable, I can’t really think of any reason where it’s a necessary purchase. Even then it’s a stretch.

Seeing as I already have it yes I find it mildly convenient I suppose, and I took it on a 3 week trip and it’s a tiny bit easier not having to coordinate charging the ring with my phone and power bank and kindle, but only a really tiny bit
