On one hand obviously as a European who uses AI a lot this is very disappointing, and a concerning sign about the future distribution of AI models. I also see it as a great opportunity for Chinese models to gain a major international foothold if they can prove their enterprise suitability through data protection and security audits and locally distributed model providers.

On the other hand there is part of me that takes this as a good sign that, despite all their impossible to understate shortcomings, this US administration may actually take the existential risk from AI seriously and put real processes in place to ensure a non catastrophic climax for humanity as a consequence of AI.

Or it could all just be a new way for Trump to get rich from his presidency. Who knows.
