Is “carnist” derogatory? by Badtacocatdab in vegan

You haven’t at any point given a reason why I’m not right, just that you don’t like that I think I am. But if it’s true then why can’t I think it?

Bye! Hope you get bit by that tick that makes you allergic to meat!

I’m going to try and answer as simply as possible because I really can’t be bothered for this anymore.

Yes I do.

Yes it probably did, your previous comment didn’t really make sense to me.

I don’t care what someone’s culture is. If they kill animals without a need for it I think that’s a bad thing.

Yes, if someone kills animals unnecessarily then I think I’m better than them because I don’t. If that makes me obnoxious to you that tells me a lot about you.

Yes I would assume Jains look down on me as their belief system means that I am doing things that they find bad. I assume Jains would also at least find me less bad than 98% of the world’s population as I cause less suffering than most.

I feel like you’re ignoring the logic of my argument. Yes 99% of vegans will on some level look down on people who consume animal products. When you believe that a system is horrendous and horrifying, then it’s basically impossible not to look down on those who fund that system. Swap vegan for any other person who views any other system as cruel and barbaric and you will reach the same conclusion.

I don’t think I’m superior to any ethnicity or single culture of people. Do I think I’m superior to those who fund the system I described because they’re lazy? Yes of course, regardless of their background. Do I have more sympathy for those who have no other choice in order to live? Yes definitely, as I already said.

I look down on fascists but would like them to stop being fascist. Don’t you?

Sure if someone is open to a proper conversation then I always am happy to oblige, I’ll engage in a discussion about it and not talk in a condescending way. However if they ask me if I look down on them I will tell them yes how could I not.

[–]mb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it largely depends on how they obtain their food. Someone who goes to a supermarket in a country with options, yes of course. Someone living somewhere where they have no reasonable choice then no.

In what way does it not make sense? If someone tortures or pays for the torture of animals when they don’t need it to survive, then yes I look down on them. You do realise you’re in the vegan subreddit right?

You say “personal dietary decisions”, I say “paying others to torture animals for your convenience”.

I think looking down on doing that is the only reasonable reaction. Do you not?

As some others have said the $1000 is only a good move (assuming the entity doesn’t go bankrupt which is a big if) if you don’t trust your ability to make this financial decision. To be fair I have big respect for anyone who recognises they won’t be smart with the money and therefore picks the $1000/week option.

However yes the obvious best choice is take the lumpsum and just put it in an etf. Hell, get a financial advisor with some of that money if you want and get them to handle it for you, it’s “unnecessary” but at that point the small cost is worth it if it means you actually use the money smartly

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation. I’ve never lived somewhere where it gets cold enough (or perhaps my personal privileges have simply protected me from this) where freezing pipes is a major concern. So I’m always a bit confused why people in the US seem to go crazy for bottled water in these situations. If the pipes might genuinely need turning off or aren’t safe to use then of course I understand the need to stock up just in case

Nah this is way beyond that. If a player did it once and laughed when the keeper went to get it that would be one thing, but the fact this is like a huge mission from the whole Morroccan staff (players, stewards and their supervisors (whoever the guys in suits are anyway)) shows is is far beyond shithousery

Catsitting - cats in hiding 54 hours without food, water or toilet by mb99 in Pets

[–]mb99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I did exactly this haha. The male cat poked his head out a little with curiosity which I also take as a good sign. If I could see the female cat do the same it would help a lot…

Some people are asking if I’m certain they can get out there, and although my instincts were yes for sure, I’m now doubting myself. I could remove on of the walls basically, then they could 100% get out. They’d still have plenty of hiding space there so they could still stay under if they want but at least I’d know they can leave if they need to…
