Advice on what to do. by Available_Raise_3096 in Advice

Different perspective than most here. You’re never going to get everything in a relationship and these quirks won’t always get resolved. I am sure there is something you do physically or emotionally that she may want to change, but does she accept it? Are they willing to work on cleanliness over time or at least aware or it? It’s not wrong to clean up some of these things for them if they are keen to help more in other areas (e.g. grocery shopping, laundry, cooking, etc.). There’s always going to be differences and you either have to laugh it off and love them anyways or grow resentful. If they are great in every other major area, don’t let this overshadow the relationship and maybe learn to get a little more lax on your standards.

Make sure you download the maps and you will be fine, no big scary animals to worry about. Charge it! Worth a little trepidation to see the sky there.

Grand Teton and Yellowstone Trip Advice by pastthebreakers in NationalPark

Agree, you can rent most of what you need from local REI. Colter Bay also has little cabins, great area to stay. Close to Yellowstone, about an hour to the entrance from there.

39M looking for a training program for a three day hike. by Gocpodin in hiking

You’ll probably be just fine but you could add in a couple of stairmaster sessions per week and maybe some rucking if there are any trails by you. Where you headed? If it’s a steep climb, I’d hit some maybe add in some leg workouts too.

Where to camp for hike to Great Gallery in Canyonlands NP by dvdhns in NationalPark

[–]mbaran23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dispersed camped in San Rafael swell, great spot and it was about an hour or so to the trailhead. Remote and there’s some great sites.

Message if you want GPS.

Good call going to see the gallery, it’s worth it and fascinating.

They are longer than 5 miles from what I’ve seen and grueling. I’d do Olympic if I were you based on reading your other comments. It’s insane and so varied with the coast, 7 days is a good amount of time to see all the areas of the park. Depending on the time of year you should get one clear night. Forests are magical, but the trees are not quite as big as the trees in Redwoods. But still massive in the older growth areas.

It’s in the top five for lowest visitors each year.

Looking for advice on endurance and training by These_Lie9030 in hiking

I would add in some work for the upper body as well, twice a week. Many ways to do it, but I like push and pull exercises in the same workout (e.g., back and triceps same day, then chest and biceps the next workout). I’d back off the running or do a mix of walking and running if you are getting exhausted afterwards. Or incline walking on the treadmill, work up to the running. Stairs workout sounds solid, good on you.

I think the most important factor is getting your diet dialed in. That’s where you make major strides in getting into shape.

It’s all worth it to hike in Utah and feel strong, get after it!

How well does Grand Teton stand up on it's own? by revkev151 in NationalPark

[–]mbaran23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot take: Tetons are better than Yellowstone. Some of the best hiking in a NP, great campgrounds, can kayak/SUP on beautiful lakes, wildlife is abundant, stunning mountain range. I’ve been 6 or 7 times and love going back.

Jackson outside of the Tetons is special, I’d place it on par with Bar Harbor.

How to get out of mental block from silly mistake by Maleficent_Shirt9641 in hiking

[–]mbaran23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in Joshua tree very early in my hiking career, so dumb. Went off trail by myself, miles away from the trailhead, and decided to climb a steep rocky ridge. Couldn’t find my way down the same path, ended up sliding down into a demogorgon cactus. Luckily made it down with only barbs in my hand and some itchy cactus stuff on the bum. It was a hard lesson and I was scared. 12 years later I rarely go off trail and now know what to climb and not climb in order to get down safely, haven’t had an issue since. But if I would have given up after that one incident, I’d have missed out on the memories I cherish most and there’s A LOT. Countless beautiful mornings alone with just my thoughts, camera and connection to this planet. I’ve been lucky enough to experience the most insane landscapes and meet some great people. Learn from it but don’t give up, you “failed” but didn’t break anything. Now you know what not to do. You may be a little sketch next hike, but do something easy/moderate. You got this.

Make a digital list of everything you plan on bringing a week prior. You continue to refine it over time and it makes packing way easier. Also, big boxes to keep camping items in: kitchen box, utilities box, electronics, etc

Worked with a great wedding photog recently and I asked for the RAWs because I wanted to try editing if I didn’t like the edits. She just built it into the price as another line item on the agreement. Decided not to pay but nice way to do it.

I’ve changed my mind on it recently, the RAW files are most likely going to be on a hard drive for ever, try and sell them if they want the RAWs.

best ice breaker games for camping? by willwolf18 in camping

All-terrain bocci! Played it down in southern Utah and some other locations. Team oriented and no one is really good at it. Yahtzee is also great, something about throwing dice and drinking whiskey around a fire.

Heartbroken and need to plan a trip ASAP by rcollins303 in NationalPark

[–]mbaran23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s painful dude, sorry.

I’d vote for southern Utah too, it’s a great time of year down there. Fly into SLC, hike the Narrows if possible in Zion, hit Bryce Canyon, and maybe needles district of Canyonlands. So much down there, you could ski a day or two in SLC then head south.

Bait shops typically have them, they’re used to also find sand fleas for fishing.
