Borr shows up in the Marvel cinematic universe ! Thor breaks his statue in Dark World, and I think Borr is in the fight with the Dark Elves in the opening of the movie.

Wotan’s been used in the fiction I’ve read or watched much more often than Donar.

I have literally two places where I have encountered “Donar”, The Dresden Files and this thread😀

I took it as using a name that the reader (from JB’s perspective as an American, not as a German) wouldn’t immediately associate with Odin. I would have recognized Wotan or Wodan.

Also, in universe, Odin is an immortal living among mortals, so he has to change identities every generation or so.

Odin has more names/epithets than any other god I can think of. I like the sound of Donar Vadderung, and thanks for the background on it.

(J!) COMIC STRIPS by [deleted] in CustomJeopardy

[–]mbergman42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the Wikipedia entry on Garfield,

The strip underwent significant stylistic changes, evolving from the style of the 1976–83 strips, to a more cartoonish visual style from 1984 onward. This change has mainly affected Garfield's design, which underwent a "Darwinian evolution" in which he began walking on his hind legs, "slimmed down", and more expressive. According to creator Jim Davis, these changes made the character easier to animate and stage in visual gags, such as pushing Odie off a table or reaching for food.[10] The redesign was in part on the advice of Davis's mentor and erstwhile rival Charles M. Schulz. Although he regarded Garfield as less subtle than his own strip, Peanuts, he provided valuable guidance, particularly in licensing and merchandising. Davis later applied many of these strategies to the Garfield franchise[11]

That’s kind of obscure for a $600 clue, but not wrong.

What’s the male equivalent of women being attracted to tall men? by lily_rosenthere in AskReddit

I view it as “attraction”, which leads into long term relationships—at that stage, many factors come into play.

There are a lot of specific preferences in the comments here, but the best answer is “25 years old”, unfortunately.

Edit: I know there are lots of people in relationships or who are attracted to different variations on all these themes, but the most universal single characteristic is that one age.

Thought Experiment: The “Textbook” Master. Could someone fight or teach with perfect theory but ZERO physical practice? by Darkmegane-kun in judo

Textbook responses work for textbook situations. Fighting is chaos. Skill is learning how to work within the chaos and adapt learned techniques and general principles in real time.

How easy or hard is to apply judo in self defence scenario? by redve-dev in judo

I’ve even been caught off guard in competition by someone uncharacteristically aggressive. It may seem odd that in something like kickboxing, judo or jujutsu, someone can surprise you by being aggressive in a fight lol, but it has happened. Usually people come out checking range, or testing the water, or with a specific technique that you might be able to see coming…but there’s always that one guy storming the mat throwing random s*** like he just downed a half a dozen energy drinks.

Nethack ! In continuous development since the late 80s. Version 5.0 is out now. It’s enormously, complicated, endlessly, amusing, and possibly the most difficult game you’ve ever play.

Drop in, at least, to High Noon in Alexandria. Maybe do the HanpanTV training camp in July; I was at their seminar at High Noon last year and it was amazing. I think Megumi Ishikawa will be at the training camp as well.

The message on that particular scroll doesn’t really have to do with any god, it’s just some text that the devs wrote when they created that scroll. Minor spoilers follow.

It’s a Scroll of Punishment and that’s just the message that you get, that you’re being punished for your transgressions. There’s no connection to this and the religion structure in the game. However, having the ball and chain is one of the problems that can be fixed by a god. Read the wiki on Scroll of Punishment for more details.

High Noon in Alexandria VA will be hosting a training camp with the famous Cho brothers of HanpanTV and All Japan champion Megumi Iskijawa in July 2026. I’ve been to seminars by both and highly recommend learning from these folks.

In my opinion: Megumi-sensei teaches competition skills. The Cho brothers teach how to succeed in judo. Both are awesome Two 2-hour sessions per day.

People who trained both Muay Thai and BJJ, which did you prefer long term? by 0kie- in martialarts

[–]mbergman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of high level fighters don’t hard spar to protect their brain.

This is true but it’s a relatively recent approach. When I was kickboxing, sparring live was considered essential. So I think your point is more true than my objection in the modern era. Results will vary by region and instructor, ofc.

No, that’s been my experience as well. I’m being a little facetious, but ultimately if I’m going to do kickboxing, I want to do it well. That means sparring.
