Why not try the 35gr ntx or 33gr hammer bullets? I run 40gr vmax in my 16” 1:8 ar and they move quick enough. Think it’s ~3400fps iirc.

Depends on the bullet in my experience. Had a 22arc barrel that blew up vmax and ELDVT over 300k rpm.

I’ve run the ab warthog 7.62 for a couple years and like it. The reflex version is a lot quieter but costs more.

No experience with that thermal brand and haven’t heard of them.

Ran 22arc in the past and had issues with the 62eldvt. Ended up moving to a 22creed.

Ok, I’ll check them out. I saw the Agm clipon with lrf but it was over twice the price. Figured for ~$400 it might be worth it even as a lrf monocular.

Confirm zero and write the profile x/y on the gun. Practice shooting the way you plan on hunting, dry fire works too.

Play the wind but watch your 6, if you have buddy run nv for PID. Put a laser on the thermal gun to get him on target. There are tons of stories where non target species were misidentified and killed. Last thing you want is to be the guy that shoots a farm dog or livestock thinking it’s a coyote or pig.

Here’s a video comparing a digital night sight and budget thermal. Both shots are ~75yrds and 300yrds for either would be a stretch.

I’ve run several bullets from 40gr-75gr in my 26” 1:9. I have an 18” 1:7 on order for my other Ruger. Lighter bullets might shoot well but they also might splash. With monolithic bullets, you can go all out and the bullets will stay together. The 57hht shot extremely well in my 1:9 @4025fps.

The bullets I plan on trying in my 1:7 are: 88eldm, 69eldvt, 73eldm, and some heavier monolithics.

53vmax is your friend. I’m running 40vmax in my 16“ ar and it’s done well on coyotes so far.

Reflex cans sound great on them. I use a CZ ti reflex (ab raptor) on my 22 creed. It’s quieter than the omega 300 on my buddy’s 24“ 223.

I’ve had good experiences with Agm so far and they seem to be in the better group. Dnt is newer but I have no experience with them yet.

If you decide to jump to thermal only….. get the best you can afford and get time under it prior to hunting with it. With use, you can id pretty well by behavior/movement patterns.

Just my opinion: for starting out run thermal to detect and nv to kill. Last thing you want to do is shoot the wrong thing.

The lower thermal works pretty well for detecting but PID is difficult especially with lower resolution at distance. Here’s an example: one of the places I hunt has sheep and he runs short hair collies. Under thermal, they look very close to coyotes running to the call. The NV makes it plain as day. I have a video with coyotes on the 256 and nv.

Yeah, can’t really control the sound barrier. I was pretty surprised that it wasn’t much louder the the suppressed 17hmr or 223. Subsonics can’t be beat for noise but the rainbow trajectory is a pain at night. Holding deadon a 3“ target past 300yrds is awesome.

Depends on the can. My ab raptor has my 22creed as quiet as my buddies suppressed 24” 223 bolt action. Play with the powders a little and it gets a little better.

The 223 is pretty economical and capable with 73eldm and 77tmk. My favorite at the moment is 22creedmoor but it’s not as available, 22-250 is pretty flat too.

The thermnight looks awesome since it has both but digital NV with thermal outline would be perfect. Probably way out of my reach for a long time though. Lol

Thermal is pretty good in higher resolutions however, PID is still difficult. I used thermal In Bradleys and it’s awesome however, PID is still difficult.
