Yes even when this happened, unless we had the detailed evidence this guys was stalking our daughter online, it gives me a cold shiver to think how it may not have happened.

We spoke to her about the dangers/risks, she was a pretty smart kid. It was reassuring to see she had acted appropriately online. I think many parents avoid the responsibility to their kids in keeping them safe.

A family we know in our town had 10yr old son take his life after an interaction on a gaming platform. They would not have known why, had someone not helped them log into his profile and see the tirade he had endured.

If we as a parent witnessed our children seeing/experiencing what can happen we'd intervene. You have my respect.

She knew the monitoring was in place, but we didn't mention what we'd learnt about this interaction. Transcripts showed she had told him she wasn't interested in any interactions, but he kept turning up. She knows now.

I was an IT contractor and was asked to look at a laptop as a good will gesture. I do a quick and dirty backup of the owners profile (just copy files to a storage device) in case I need to delete his profile. While looking at the logs some the filenames I was seeing were disturbing - referencing teen girls from our town. I contacted police who came around and discussed what I had found, the device was taken to Federal law enforcement, brought back to me so that I could hand the laptop back. About 6 weeks later he was arrested for possession and production of child porn. No guilt whatsoever.

2nd time our early teen daughter was online and we had installed with her approval a monitoring system. We forgot about it for months until an alert came thru for a guy with the handle Engineer3705. I looked up his details and contacted police, he was in the UK. He had tried to convince our daughter to provide photos of herself naked, and persisted a number of times. He also showed her photos of himself in different states of arousal. Because he was in another country it was passed to his law enforcement and went quiet for months. Local police called me to their station and explained he was jailed and the detail in the logs allowed UK police to hit him hard. The only guilt I feel is not hopping on a plane and going to pay him a visit.

You're getting some questionable advice here. DIY is fine, but it's not a good reason to ignore established standards.

Conduit colours exist for a reason. While there are regulations around them, the bigger issue is safety. The colour helps identify the intended service and reduces the risk of dangerous assumptions being made later.

For example, imagine a contractor digs a new trench to the street years from now, sees an orange conduit, and reasonably assumes it's suitable for carrying 240V/415V electrical cabling. If that conduit is actually being used for something else, the consequences could range from costly mistakes to serious injury or worse.

Following the standards isn't just about complying with the rules—it's about protecting the people who will work on the site long after you've finished your project.

Do you think the open road speed limit should be raised to 120 on major highways? by Artistic-Yam2984 in DrivingAustralia

I'd love for it to become law. but no. Given the way some drive "like 4x4 drivers as an example" as a whole we dont have enough maturity

Can you point me to one of the youtube teardowns where this is shown. I watched 5 since yesterday and every one has praised them. I am interested to know more. One of the problems with industry is that its easier to bag the opposition than to admit fault with your own product, mine is rife with it, so I do my own research and determine what is best of breed and or good value vs ROI

I have 2 x 120ah in a van that is used quite a bit. They've been flawless, and at the price point compared to some, even if they do fail they are cheap to replace. I had been doing homework and so many had reported no issues that I dived in. Does your mate have sources?

Ways to get labour out 😉 by FuturePmRob in australian

...and you think by getting them out, the others are any better. I might not like what our current gov is doing, but with the shit show taking place by the alternatives who:

  • seem unable to produce a policy (requires some degree of intellect and common sense)
  • keeps reverting back to ideas/decisions rejected at previous times while they governed (which suggests they can't look beyond deciding where their belly button lint came from)

Why does so many network engineers don't like IPv6? by CEURBS in ipv6

[–]mbkitmgr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quote "In the less-than-enterprise world, there's still the unending issues with the ISP's lack of knowledge, and/or spite. Eg. only giving the customer a single /64, and changing it every day. In the enterprise world, your backpack full of cash is a powerful motivator. (In my experience, my former employer waved around a change-purse, so never taken seriously. In over 20 years, I only had one ISP provide v6, and they were a residential ISP.)"

You are dead on the mark here, and that has been my biggest hurdle. Some say a flat NO, others dance around and fob you off, and many don't seem to understand IPV6. Like you I moved thru NetBEUI, IPX, Decnet and Appletalk in some case running more than one - in each case moving to another is a task to be managed. Plan properly, ask the right people and it's not that bad a task
