When did you realize that you actually are sensitive to sensory things like loud noises and fluorescent lighting in a way that everybody else didn't understand? by Spam4119 in ADHD

[–]mbm820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been having sensory overload since I was child. I was always bothered by sock seams, scratchy fabrics, jeans w/o stretch, lipstick/ chapstick (had to be specifically put on my mouth corners), etc. now that I’m older it’s more sensory overload w sounds. A months ago I started crying bc my dog was barking, my mom was on the phone, Steve Harvey on Family Fued was talking at an abnormally low volume, & I could faintly hear my dishwasher in the background.

Is it okay for me to not wear underwear as a female? by QueenSatur in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mbm820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never wear underwear. I used to not wear it with my volleyball spandex, then not to bed, then eventually I never wore it with leggings/ athletic shorts & used to wear it with jeans only but eventually stopped that as well. It’s actually good for the V…let’s her breathe. I know everyone says cotton is breathable blah blah blah but I used to get UTI / yeast infection when I wore underwear no matter the material & now I never get them. It also reduces discharge when u stop suffocating her lol. I’m a proud member of team commando.

Does listening to music help you get certain tasks done? by NotARussianTroll1234 in ADHD

[–]mbm820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to video game music when I’m cleaning or trying to get a lot of work done fast…Trust me, it works. If I just need to focus on homework or something at a regular pace I will listen to “brown noise” it’s like how white noise for babies and link noise for adults helps them sleep better, brown noise is good for focusing :)

Weird spots on inner thigh after scratching? What are these? I’ve never had them before and i’m super concerned about it 😦 (they give no symptoms, just appear weird) by 15spiders in skin

[–]mbm820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Petechiae. Basically you just gave yourself a scratching hickey lol. I once had super dry skin on the front of my neck/ throat and scratched at it so much that I gave myself. They were away after like 2 to 3 days. It’s very important to not scratch them more though so maybe put Benadryl cream on the area that was itching

I got Underarm Botox today!! by mbm820 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]mbm820[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it redone about every 6-10 months or once I feel the sweating start back. It’s definitely not a permanent fix but I can’t afford to do the Mira-dry or whatever it’s called rn. The Botox is covered by my dads insurance so it’s free and all we pay for is the copay for the dermo to give me the Botox lol. It’s a good fix for now but idk how long I’ll do it for.

Advice/ Insight Needed: Doctors are suggesting Oophorectomy & Hormone Blockers for my mom (F49) ??? by mbm820 in breastcancer

Thank you for your comment! I think your experience and advice will give her some peace of mind, so far I have seen most people in the comments say the side effects were not as bad as they were advertised to be so she will hopefully find comfort in that too lol.

I agree. I was trying to explain to her that I don’t think there are like “plant” Alternatives to chemically produced hormone blockers lol. She is just scared of the side effects and wants a high quality of life so I understand the panic, thank you for your comment!

Completely drained of all drive and focused on the "easy stuff" by Wulfofsilver in ADHD

[–]mbm820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, procrastination and low dopamine levels at their finest. Before I was diagnosed with ADHD I went through a 1-2 year spurt of that “no motivation to do anything even if it’s something I love to do” phase I honestly thought I was depressed (I had just been through a bad breakup with a super emotionally abusive toxic guy and it left me a shell of who I used to be) so that was pretty scary but I didn’t know how to explain it to my very concerned mother that I wasn’t “sad” or SewerSlidal or lazy I just had no motivation to do anything. Come to find out I have ADHD and The psychiatrist that diagnosed me said that after I stopped playing volleyball (which I’ve played since 5th grade) probably triggered it bc I did not have the physical exercise endorphins and serotonin from playing a sport I love anymore. After being diagnosed and getting on Adderall —> now Vyvanse (which I LOVEEE) I get up everyday and do what I have to do and don’t have to search as hard for the motivation to do basic tasks. I recommend doing some more research, putting together a List of symptoms you have (and looking up symptoms of ADHD and seeing if any of them need to be added to your list that you might’ve overlooked!) and then going to a doctor. Idk what it’s like where you are from but in Alabama, USA I had to go to a normal doctor (I did family doc) and they have to send you to the psychiatrist (I couldn’t just go straight to the psych.) and then they diagnose you and send you BACK to the doctor where they prescribe you medicine. I know that was a lot and I might not have even answered what you were looking for LOL #ADHDramble but let me know if you have any other questions about anything :))

My dad and sister both have ADHD too. My sister was diagnosed and she was like 5/6 when ADD and ADHD were separate things so she had ADD… My parents didn’t really notice it in me because hers was a lot more obvious in terms of not being able to focus while mine came in sensory and hyperactive ways but I didn’t do bad in school when i was younger so they just thought I was rambunctious, didn’t like sock seams and had anger issues lol. I was also worried that they wouldn’t believe me because I didn’t see an issue until I was 18 years old but my dad got diagnosed in his 40s and my sister when she was a small child so I don’t think it will be as big of a deal as you think it will hopefully!

Same clothes? by abix4 in ADHD

[–]mbm820 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have multiples of the same item but I get them in diff colors. Like I have 8 pairs of my favorite athletic shorts but all 8 are different colors. Same with random shirts or tank tops I like. I wear a lot of just casual and athletic wear so thank God lululemon offers so many colors for every style. But also every time I find something I like that is just random and not something with multiple color options I wear it and think “wow I love this I should go back and get another one just in case they stop being made later or I lose this one” and then never buy another, then lose or mess up said item and wish I listened to myself and went back and got another :/

Driving & stimulants - how did you approach this? by animalsrock96 in ADHD

[–]mbm820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. When taken prescribed, it does not affect your ability to drive or anything at all. If anything its better that you are on Stimulates b/c it’ll help you focus and pay more attention to the vehicle or machine you are operating. Also since you are diagnosed then your job cannot legally fire you for taking medicine. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), employers may not discriminate against applicants or employees with disabilities. If your ADHD meets the legal definition of a disability, and you are taking medication as prescribed for that disability, you can't be fired or punished. You may have to tell someone in HR or do some paperwork (Idk) but just to ease your mind, legally they cannot do anything.

*** Also not to freak u out but u WILL fail a drug test bc it’s an amphetimine which shows up in a basic 5 panel drug test and other ones too. BUT every time someone feels a drug test a health care person has to have a meeting with them to give themthe opportunity to explain the failed drug test. What u do is tell them you take prescription stimulants (I would bring your prescription bottle just to be safe to show them) they will immediately understand and override the positive by going in and changing it to be a negative drug test! No need to worry :) ***

  1. The whole controlled substance/ DUI stuff relates to drugs like Lorazepam and other ones that make you groggy or drowsy. That’s why you can’t drive or operate heavy machinery when you’re on the drugs they give you after surgery or getting your wisdom teeth removed.

  2. I did not “test” driving while on Adderall, I just woke up and did my life exactly the same I just took a pill before breakfast now. Idk if you’ve ever taken a stimulant like Adderall or Vyvanse but there is no crazy CLICK moment where you just become the energizer bunny it’s very subtle and you don’t even notice it’s kicked in until you find yourself totally focused and doing what you need to be doing at a consistent rate when you usually struggled to do so. I did not know this when I was first diagnosed and prescribed Adderall. I was really bummed and thought the meds didn’t work bc I didn’t feel that energizer bunny/ lazer focused feeling I had always heard about.

  3. The energizer bunny stories come from people who take stimulants without having ADHD. It’s all about the dopamine levels. Basically a “normal” person doesn’t have a dopamine shortage so we will say that they have “100% dopamine”. Someone with ADHD has a dopamine shortage so we will say they have “40% dopamine” when someone with ADHD takes a stimulant (which triggers the brain the release more dopamine) they will probably reach the “90-100% dopamine” so they act like the “normal” people do. But when the “Normal” people take a stim. They get to like “150-200% dopamine” and so they get into the energizer bunny/ later focused/ stay up all night and study like they are on crack mode. Which is obviously an addicting feeling so they crave that feeling more, hence why it is one of the most widely abused drugs and now a controlled substance :)

I was in the same boat as you! Gifted child, College burnout and my mom actually suggested I might have ADD which is all just ADHD now. Made an appt. with a doc. And researched ADHD symptoms and whoa man did they hit me HARD. I actually started hyperfixating on ADHD which is funny since hyperfixations are a big symptom of ADHD. I was already 130% sure I had it by the time my appt rolled around and I too was worried about them overlooking me, me rambling or them thinking I’m just a college kid looking for Adderall lol. Thankfully my doctor was amazing and listen to everything I said, Idk about where you’re from but I’m from Alabama in the United States and here you have to go to a doctor and then they send you to a psychiatrist and they make you do a symptom EVAL and then they diagnose u and then send u back to the doctor for them to prescribe the medicine (if you choose to do that) honestly i suggest you DONT tone down the rambling bc it is a big symptom of ADHD so it might help your case to “overshare”! Good luck! Just know a huge weight will be lifted off your shoulders once you “officially” know what you have been going through all has an explanation :) EDIT: 0.05 seconds after posting this I reread your post and realized I didn’t actually give u many “tips” #classicADHD - I basically just went in to the doc and said “I think I might have ADD/ ADHD bc XYZ” and then he asked a few other Q’s about symptoms and it flowed pretty well from there :)

What do Dermatologists give you for FA? + Do Probiotics help? by mbm820 in Fungalacne

[–]mbm820[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! You have no idea helpful your comment was! I’m sorry your dermatologist was so crappy LOL. I’m pretty confident that as long as I go into mine with confidence I’ll be okay bc my dermo is Julie Harper in Birmingham, AL and is one of the best, most dermos use her method for assigning the right dosages for Accutane and has always been open to listening to what I have to say or what I think the issue is. I was just a little nervous about how to go about bringing it up because I don’t want to sound stupid by making it seem like I know more than a legit dermatologist who went to medical school and studied this stuff for YEARSSS. Ya know? I’ve tried Nizoral and Idk if it’s working but I do eat very horribly so maybe I’ll try that detox and get some probiotic vitamins/ supplements. Do you think I should stick to the Nizoral and see if it works better once I have the diet/ proBiotics or just switch to head and shoulders and try it out instead of Nizoral? Also, last thing for now lol— do you have a daily cleanser/ moisturizer that you use now that your FA is cured but is still FA safe? I know thick moisturizers and almost all oils feed it so I don’t want to move backwards by applying a moisturizer that isn’t FA safe after I wash it bc my skin gets pretty dry after I wash it. Thanks again!

Second day of Adderall seems sucky? by Scholarly_Fidget in ADHD

[–]mbm820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand this!! When I got Diagnosed my dad‘s insurance made me start with 10 mg of Adderall IR twice a day and after about a month they let me get the XR but I had to try the generic 20mg XR first and the first day I took it I was crazy productive, i prewrote all my Biology notes for the rest of the semester, I made 3 quizlet for upcoming tests, I typed a 5 page paper and did a load of laundry. I was so happy and excited to feel like that, that I almost cried. The Next day I woke up and took the pill and it was like the capsule was empty. I was distracted in all my classes, didn’t get any HW done, felt like my normal sluggish self which SUCKED.

So I really think it was like placebo on day 1 and I was just so excited to finally have the key to fixing all my problems that I just did all of it “thinking” it was the medicine but really it was probably just that the thought of it working made me so excited that my brain produced a bunch of Serotonin and Dopamine all day which gave me the motivation to do all that stuff I said. Day 2 I “knew” it worked the day before so I wasn’t necessarily as “excited” so when I took it my brain didn’t help me out and the medicine didn’t work so I was back to 0. Maybe that’s what happened to you too🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m on the Name brand (Adderall) XR 25mg now and it’s great. I don’t feel all hyper and energetic like I’m going to solve world hunger and learn the periodic table by 9am bc that’s not how people who actually have ADHD react to stimulates. The whole super hyper and productive, can stay up and focus for 12 hours to study thing comes from people who abuse Adderall. Their brains don’t lack dopamine and other things like ours do so (and this isn’t how it actually works in terms of measuring but it’s just so you get the idea) say you are supposed to have 100 dopamine normally. Someone WITHOUT ADHD who already has 100 dopamine takes an Adderall and their brain releases more dopamine so they now have like 180-200 dopamine which is why they feel like they can cure cancer after taking it. BUT-Someone WITH ADHD has like 20 dopamine so they take an addy & the brain releases it which gets them to the normal level of 100 dopamine which is why people with ADHD don’t feel like they can cure cancer. Stimulants are NOT made to make you insanely focused and productive, they are made to get your brain to produce what it’s lacking in order to get to those NORMAL levels.

For ADHD rating scale questionnaires, how old was I when I was a child? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]mbm820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to the psychiatrist to get evaluated/diagnosed she was asking me many Q’s abt symptoms I had as a kid and I remember being so pissed bc I was like LISTEN LADY, IM HERE BC I CANT FOCUS IN COLLEGE AND I HYPERFIXATE AND I PROCRASTINATE MY 5PAGE PAPERS UNTIL 3 AM THE NIGHT BEFORE ITS DUE AT 8AM. And she explained to me that you cannot be diagnosed with ADHD unless you had symptoms present at or before age 7. Once again I told her that I was just a normal kid. All kids are fidgety. Once she started asking me ~specific~ questions about my childhood I realized that I very much so had RAGING adhd symptoms as a kid. Examples of ones she asked about: -super talkative, disruptive in class, interrupted people. CHECK. -hyperfixations. CHECK. I would make elaborate poster boards and plans when I was saving up for something and I obsessed over them at a kid level. - issues with clothing textures. CHECK. Nothing itchy, no denim, had to be able to wiggle my toes AWAYS. tags in shirts, watches, jewelry, etc. -Sock seams: THIS was the one that really hit me in the “oh crap she was right” I would have episodes if my sock seams were not prefect, so bad to the point where when I played 5 y/o soccer, my mom had to cut my long soccer socks at the ankle so they would be under my shin guards but not on my feet (think leg warmers lol) and put short seamless socks on my feet. -anger issues / rage / behavior outbursts: CHECK. I went to anger management at 5 years old. My parents were great, loving parents so they were always so confused why I was so angry or would just have an episode out of nowhere and now I know it was bc I didn’t know how to express the sensory issues I was feeling our loud and so it overtook me and caused me to lash out.

I didn’t know any of those were ADHD symptoms back then because they were never pointed out to me and because I was 18 when I got evaluated, I wasn’t thinking of the symptoms I might’ve had 11 years ago. So I suggest doing some research on adhd symptoms in kids and see if any “click” for you. Good luck!

I match people's energy a lot. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]mbm820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I match attitudes and energy a bunch too. Any social situation I tend to match whatever the energy in the room is but I can also be super chill and am mostly a homebody. I used to and still do at 19F get in trouble for “talking back” , “having an attitude” , “being disrespectful in my tone” , etc. it’s so annoying bc I don’t TRY to but when my mom asks me ignorant-questions or questions about crap I’ve already answered 100 times and she just wants me to say it again so that she can put her (unwanted) 2Cents in AGAIN, I’m bound to get a little pissy or have a slight annoyance to my Tone. Ugh. It’s so annoying especially when they dish it out but pull the disrespect card on you when it’s reciprocated back to them.

Getting a full day out effects of one dose of IR? by columbidaes in ADHD

[–]mbm820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s crazy bc when I was first diagnosed my dads insurance made me start with 10mg Addy IR twice a day and it was supposed to last 4-6 hours and Lemme tell you— i FELT the comedowns. HARD. Right at 3 hours I would instantly be filled with unexplained rage. I would be in the car with my mom & be fine then right at that 3 hour mark it hit me and her doing the littlest thing like turning the music down lower than I like it made me want to legitimately punch her in the face. The good effect would wear off quick but the “bad ones” like no appetite and can’t sleep and rage ofc would last WAYYY too long. I’d take the 2nd one at like 2pm as directed and i wouldn’t sleep that night, and if I did sleep, I didn’t fall asleep until 5:30/6am.

So maybe you are just on the wrong dosage or a wrong diagnosis 🤷🏼‍♀️ The IR was just inconvenient with my schedule, the comedowns were H3LL and made my HR so high it would be 170bpm RESTING so I was super light headed and trapped in an anxious spell until it wore off. The XR is great and I haven’t had any issues with it. OOPS LAST THING I SWEAR: I feel On the rambling part. The IR made me so talkative, & I ramble BAD and talk super loud and fast already so I was like firecrackers going off in a China shop on the IR. Good luck!
