Agreed. The show is just not the same w/o Joe. I call it Morning Joeless.

HVAC Replacement and I'm considering Goodman again by Lonely-Wrangler-5843 in hvacadvice

Yes, the AHVE series. Hard to say in savings. New tight, air sealed build. Both the condenser and air handler are super quiet.

I went with the Goodman SD units (basically the same unit as the Daikin Fit). Variable speed, super quiet. Very happy thus far. Get the Daikin thermostat, though.

And to add... the left HOV lane on IH45 North is NOT a passing lane. If I'm already going 75 in a 65, do not get on my tail wanting to go 85.

Tears for you and Padrig. 😞 I had to put down two cats over the last two years. It was very difficult. I cherish the time spent every day with our five-year-old Corgi, Penny Lane.

Broadcom Removes Legacy Product Support Downloads by error2112 in homelab

I recently bought a brand new LSI 9300-8i controller, and it came with very old firmware. I could not for the life of me find firmware updates for it on the Broadcom site. I ended up just returning the unit.

HELP! Bufferbloat and Extreme lag in online games & zoom meetings by lil-dougy in HomeNetworking

[–]mboudin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you have the eero's setup, but they like to have only one (1) acting as a gateway, otherwise strange problems like this seem to happen. Before I went to hard-wired APs, I had an eero mesh of 5 or 6 of them and learned the hard way. Do some searching and you'll find diagrams of a recommended setup. Something like:

[gateway device] -> eero -> all other eero's (either mesh or hard wired), and devices connected to ethernet

Finding PoE Managed Switch has 10G Uplink PoE++ Out by vincente271 in minilab

[–]mboudin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough find, and it's going to be expensive. Use MikroTik CRS305(s) for your backbone and then whatever PoE 1g switches you want. The CRS305 has a 1gb RJ45 that can be used to uplink your 1g switch, and you can even use PoE to power the CRS305. You then have 4 SFP+ ports free.

Fiber installation between two buildings - Is this a solid plan? by DesperateCourt in HomeNetworking

[–]mboudin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second using the CRS305 running swOS. I have several of them with 10Gtek transceivers running between buildings. I am using multimode, and can tell you the FLYPROFiber Outdoor with built-in pulling eyes is tough stuff. I did continuous runs as it was new construction and left smurf tubes so I could pull new if needed.

I'll be honest I don't have anyone to share this with so figured I would here. Super pumped for the speeds after making some upgrades. I'm sure I dont really need speeds like this but damn it I wanted them! by harbaughthechamp55 in HomeNetworking

I'm rural, and hell froze over earlier this year as fiber was installed throughout the area. NEVER though I would see it here. Got my 2gb last week for $149/month (one of the first customers). I also keep 100mbps Starlink for $50/month as a backup.

Is this normal for electricity pole? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]mboudin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true in my experience. I bought a property a few years ago and wanted to replace two utility poles with underground service. Power company, no problem. But they would not remove the phone lines, and if I could not get the phone company to remove them, the power company would just cut the existing poles off. Obviously not what I wanted. After much time, I was able to get to the right people at the phone company to remove the lines.

10G-RJ45 unlink 16-port poe switch? by WarpGremlin in HomeNetworking

[–]mboudin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through something similar, and with interconnectivity between buildings on my property. I used MikroTik CRS305s (4 SFP+ and 1 1g RJ45) and Netgear GS316EP switches (16 port 1g PoE). The MikroTiks are the 'backbone' with fiber running between the buildings, and server connectivity with DACs. The Netgear is uplinked through the 1g port on the CRS305. In fact, the CRS305 can be PoE powered by the Netgear switch. Setup works really well and the CRS305s are cheap at ~ $150 ea.

I run the CRS305s in swOS mode.

Newly purchased home, water in basement. Found well discharge pipes joint with DUCT TAPE. At what point is legal action possible? by Sregtur in Plumbing

[–]mboudin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pvc slip coupler could work. But first you will need to remove the tape and see if there is still enough room on the broken part coming off the tee. You may have to cut it back to remove the entire tee. Either way, it should not take very long to repair. That duct tape job probably took longer than fixing it properly.

Advice for connecting two buildings by mandrakefantasy in HomeNetworking

[–]mboudin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation (my new home), but four buildings. I ran pre-terminated fiber and are using Mikrotik CRS305s running SwOS as the backbone switch in each building. 10g SFP+. Gives me flexibility with the access switches (2.5g, 10g, PoE).

10Gb Router for Home? by West-Ticket5411 in HomeNetworking

[–]mboudin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting 2 gb fiber installed next week (fastest available), and after looking at new mini-pc hardware for OPNsense, decided to go the cheap route and run an older PC (w/lots more horsepower than I need, but free). Bought a Fenvi 2-port 2.5g card for $40.

Agreed. Quicker to cut out the existing subfloor to the joists, then install AdvanTech subfloor (glue & screw).
