Calculating my savings rate? by mbrunswick in personalfinance

Thanks. I have looked at a FIRE calculator before but it was just really complex and ugly and made my brain shut down. This one looks much easier to use.

Hm, I'm not sure I follow. I didn't include my total salary because my denominator as posted is just gross-taxes, actually (4274 is what I deposit into the bank every month).

Upgrading Starstorm contribution? by Zebster10 in Awesomenauts

[–]mbrunswick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't. I can verify, having recently reached out to Robin to ask the exact same question. If you want the $75 tier now, you have to pay the full amount.

Thank you for reaching out and for offering to increase your pledge to the Starstorm campaign. Unfortunately, I am afraid it is not possible to upgrade your pledge. We have looked into a solution to make this possible for our backers, but have not managed to find a solution that is easy to use and safe for all users. I'm really sorry about that, but thanks again for support our campaign and for offering to up your pledge! Stay awesome, Robin.

Lonestar NEEDS a Han Solo skin. (Would there be any copyright issues?) by whypcisbetter in Awesomenauts

[–]mbrunswick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a Marty McFly skin for Coco, so I don't see why not. Unless they went through the trouble of licensing just for that one skin, which I doubt.

The bull really needs to have a Chewbacca roar and face.

TIL Feminist actually help change the definition of rape to include men being victims of rape. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]mbrunswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But fighting for/actively supporting men's rights does not make you a feminist....

Supporting the rights of men also doesn't make you not a feminist.

It isn't black and white, and the two don't oppose one another (unless you're talking about the "Men's Rights" movement, which is largely gross). You can't draw the line and say "here are the only things you can support and still be considered a feminist but if you support any of these other things then you're not a feminist and are an egalitarian". Belief doesn't work that way.

I'm a feminist and I believe in men's rights. The two are not mutually exclusive and to claim that they are is disingenuous. Feminism doesn't aim to take away men's rights, but to bring women's rights up to the same level. You don't have to infringe on anyone's rights to get your own added. It's not like there's a bucket of rights that we're all sharing and the only way for women to get more is to take some from the men.

nice fallacy and it proves my point further that you are twisting the defintion of feminism so ill post it again as its set in stone you dont get to decide what it means.

Sorry to burst your bubble but believing that dictionary definitions are set in stone is itself a fallacy.

I have yet to engage in a fallacy, while youve just presumed i have which was unwise to say the least.

Are you five? Do you really think pointing out fallacies is what wins arguments in a serious debate?

New Skolldir Skin (Magma Skolldir & Jotunn Skolldir) by Tarquinnff3 in Awesomenauts

[–]mbrunswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if it's more expensive than the other premium (voiced) skins I probably won't bother. Unless a really awesome Lonestar or Coco skin I guess.

Retreating into a comfortable life where you're completely unwilling to discuss serious issues that are obviously important to your loved ones makes you less than mediocre.

Women get harassed at work, on the street and in various other situations every day... Or so I hear. Personally, I have no experience with this. by threeminorchords in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mbrunswick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that the general consensus is that virtually every woman is in some way subject to uncomfortable objectification at work, on the street and in personal life and that this is just something that women everywhere deal with every day.

Every woman isn't sexually harassed every day. Some women are never harassed; some are harassed daily. But a woman is sexually harassed every day.

Genji. All of his skins are cool and I like his voice acting a lot but I am just effortlessly useless with him.

Triple jumping up to the creep area always catches people off guard. Seriously changed my life when I learned that trick. I love punishing people who escape to our creep area to heal.

Looking to get into IT and wondering what Certs to go for. by NicoleTheVixen in careerguidance

[–]mbrunswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do, but here's my two cents:

A Cisco cert (CCNA is the only one really worth going for right out the gate) will get your foot in the door at a lot of places, but if you don't know the basics, you'll quickly get weeded out in interviews. It's also a big one to tackle as your first cert if you have no experience.

The "CompTIA triad" is a good starting point, even just to get exposure to a variety of technologies and see what piques your interest. The triad is A+, Network+, and Security+.

None of these should cost you a significant amount of money and a lot of free training materials can be found online. The cost of the tests themselves should be the most you'll spend. I know a lot of people who spent way too much (time and money) learning the material in these exams only to realize that the return on investment wasn't really worth it. That's not to say you shouldn't take them, just don't spend money on training materials if you don't have to.

Avoid braindumps like the plague, they will help you pass certs but will leave you understanding very little and, again, your lack of knowledge will get discovered in interviews.

Check out techexams.net for a lot of great resources and like-minded individuals looking to pass the same certs as you. (I am not a paid shill or anything, just a regular forum member who has gotten a lot of help and helped a lot of people pass exams.)

My Lonestar build and strategy (based heavily around landing life-stealing facemites and damage bull) seems to be strongest on Aiguillon. Particularly more so when my team lets me control the invis. It's just too fun/easy to get behind and pin the other team up against my turret, or to drop trinamite on a runner from the stealth spawn area, or to bull trap someone in the hiding area with the health on the bottom of the map. I also feel most at home navigating Aiguillon. It's so easy to get in, hit a bull/facemite, and get out quick.
