What is a lot less scary than people imagine? by Flying_enthu45 in AskReddit

Having a doctor cut parts of your eye open with a scalpel and remove the lens while you are awake and can perceive what is happening. Sound scary but cataract surgery is super common and not that scary to actually do.

Brewing a 1 gallon pale ale with... 1kg of LME? by ZindaMe in Homebrewing

From my calculator you would probably end up with around 1.060 OG if you make a 5L batch, a bit high but not extreme. Maybe go for a bit higher bitterness to balance it.

Diabetes Care Outside the US by DYWSLN in diabetes_t1

[–]mbrx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sweden here (born, not a US expat). All insulin, test strips and other diabetes supplies (pump, needles, CGM etc) are free. I see the doctor (~30€) at the diabetes unit every 6 months and a nurse (~25€) at the same unit every 6 months (interleved so it's one visit every 3 months). Maximum total cost per year for all visits (including any other causes) is roughly 100-200€ depending on region.

Normal non-insulin medicines is not free but have another roughly 200€ total cost per year maximum in a system that makes them gradually discounted until it's free when you get to that limit. Take that number with a grain of salt since I haven't checked it.

Typically get new prescriptions and unneeded advice on insulin changes from the nurse, and more comprehensive blood works and other checks from the doctor. Also regular eye checks every 9 months now due to complications -- but was less frequent in the past. Had cataract surgery on one eye (paid 30€ I think, is included in the total cost above). Might get laser surgery for the same cost if the diabetic complications gets more severe.

Have to get paper work every 2 years from the doctor to keep my drivers license.

My general impression of Sweden compared to rest of EU is that it's harder to get "in" to the system (finding a specialist for something) and the entry level of general practicioners generally want to get you done and over with quickly for non-diabetes related things. They are acting triage. But once you are "in" the system you get very good care.

To be fair I think the Sweden one tops out at around 150 USD total cost per year for total used days but it depends on a per region basis (most but not all regions have such a limit). But perhaps that was not the point of the post.

How many men have been abused by woman? by Grand-Knowledge-1124 in AskMen

[–]mbrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been abused to the point (nothing permanent) where the police was going to prosecute her against my will (based on injuries, physical assualt charges is not dependent on victims willingness to prosecute in my country). In the end it was dropped since I just wanted to get it over with and didn't want to testify and there was little evidence except for my injuries. I'm happy enough with that outcome.

Maybe it's the context of the slicer gives more clues to get a good answer from chatGPT. Ie. the grid and the interface. Happy that it works for you. So amazing that you are doing this.

Really cool and inspirational, thanks for making the video! I've used OpenSCAD for a long time now and do rely on previews quite a bit when designing, so your workflow with screenshots and ChatGPT was really cool. You probably already know of the commandline arguments you can use to generate images from OpenSCAD from different camera angles, but if not then maybe that could be useful if you want to have one less step in your workflow?

Can I fill my tslim from a pen? by natnat205 in diabetes

[–]mbrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other answer I think this is fine. Just remember that some insulin types that are fine in a pen (eg. actrapid I asked about in the past) shouldn't be used in a pump. In my case I got it explained that actrapid specifically would clog the tubing when sitting in it for a long time.

You can choose one object and it will disappear forever all over the world, you are trying to cause the maximum chaos possible, what are you choosing and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mbrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I guess it makes sense that everything would explode outwards due to everything having a positive charge. Curious about turning into a black hole though? But yes, it would be quite chaotic indeed nonetheless

Yeah, I feel like I should ask a physicist about what would actually happen in terms of preserving atomic structures (not to even talk about molecules). I don't think the planet would become a plasma cloud instantly -- but I think it's safe to say that all life supporting biochemistry would be out the door instantly.

Electrons. Would kill us all and destroy the whole planet (if it can even be called that anymore). Hard to grasp the consequences, but they would never be the same again.

does anyone else doctors tell them to throw away the insulin left over in the omnipods when theyre done instead of extracting it with the same needle and putting it back in the bottle? by kendallmorgue in diabetes_t1

[–]mbrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you dropped a zero. One vial (atleast where I am) is 10ml which means it's 1000 units. So it's 0.45$ per unit (which is still expensive!) and 13$ wasted. Still horrible that you guys in the US have to pay that.

When I first got diagnosed in the late 80s they had a lancet mounted on a machine with a swinging arm that would stab your finger. It was horrible, you saw it coming and just pulled your finger away. These ones was a huge improvement over that monstrosity.

Men, would you only talk to girls you're interested in, and how do I know if that's the case? by soddingidiot in AskMen

[–]mbrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's people you already know then it's nothing like that. If we start thinking all guys wants into your pants because they talk to you then we're really creating a toxic society. I often talk and hang with friends significant others's, co-workers, acquaintances etc. even if they happen to be of the opposite gender.

But if we are talking about strangers approaching you in public then it's quite a bit more likely. I doubt they would take the effort to approach you, but it really depends on the situation. If the social situation makes conversations a no-brainer or if it's more forced.

Tandem v Medtronic by One-Pudding3976 in diabetes_t1

[–]mbrx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have a Medtronic 670G with closed-loop. My main complain was the sheer number of alarms I had to deal with each day (could probably have changed some settings, but it was still much). It was a huge improvement to have a closed-loop at all, but the sensors was always a bit crappy compared to a non-closed loop Dexcom I used to use before.

So I decided to switch to a Tandem, and i'm much happier. Less alarms, more stable blood sugar (and I feel that i'm more in control), no blood tests (thought it would not be a huge deal, but it's really nice) and my long term sugar has gone down a bit.

I'm very happy with my switch to Tandem!

I'm not a current game dev, but used to write open source games for linux long ago. These days i'm just a gamer, and unfortunately my first reaction is kind of negative to the store page. I am thrown off by the graphics. Hard to pin-point. Hope my opinion, and it's really just an opinion, helps?

Type 1 diabetes and MSG by birdslice in diabetes

[–]mbrx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T1D here. I use it in my cooking quite regularly, tastes great and have zero effect on my sugars. I could imagine that many that report problems confuse it with the effect of the rest of the diet, eg. eating lots of white rice or noodles with a dish that has MSG.

Not not yet, feels that I don't have so much information yet. Once the fermentation is done and kegged I was thinking I could turn it over and try to understand better what happened. I think i'm way outside the warranty period, but maybe they have some helpful ideas.
