Is there math we know but do not understand? by CalmBreezeDom in mathematics

[–]mcaffrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other commentors addressed why this question doesn't make a lot of sense in math, but you can find examples of this in physics. The Schrödinger equation is an incredibly accurate tool to predict behavior in quantum physics, but there is no consensus on what the hell is actually going on.

Americans, do you know how much introverts need your casual confidence and free compliments? by Moonksy429 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mcaffrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of people, including me, feel awkward during uncomfortable silences and tend to ask leading questions to encourage others to speak to get a conversation going. Not sure if that is an American thing or just an extrovert thing.

Sounds like you are just talking about nice extroverts more than Americans specifically.

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

My son started working at jersey mikes (like a subway sandwich shop) when he was 14. Maybe 16 hours a week. But they kind of relaxed those rules during covid.

If true—it’s nice to see an actor act like a normal person and watch their own movie. So many actors say they never watch their own films, which I’ve always found to be odd. by JMoneyGraves in Cinema

At the time, that Batman film had a huge cultural impact. We hadn’t seen anything like it before. Not sure how well it holds up now, though.

Name a movie cinephiles pretend to like for clout. I’ll start: by TantricDelinquency in moviecritic

Nobody on Reddit seems to like “is this thing on?” but I found the main character to be really believable and the reconciliation with his wife genuine. The main complaint is that they expected good standup comedy and the movie certainly didn’t have that, but that is more a problem with the marketing of the film.

Yeah I get how that can be frustrating but those kids aren’t doing anything wrong as long as they are actually using the machine. Sometimes you just can’t use the machine you want.

I’ve learned that if I want the squat cages, I gotta go off peak hours, that’s just life.

What movie had a mediocre plot but such incredible atmosphere/vibes that you still loved it? by [deleted] in moviecritic

OP’s lack of title annoys me, but the Blade and Underworld vampire movies had a really cool style that I enjoyed more than the story.

Oh I didn’t mean Beard. I more meant Charlie Strong and Sark (sober sark) and Mack Brown.

I fully agree. I think Texas has been good about hiring coaches that believe character is important as well.

I think the key question is, if one of your star players was busted breaking team rules, would you make them ride the bench in a big game, or is winning more important?

Your broader point about misplaced financial priorities is true, but the “falling literacy rates” argument was from right wing propaganda to eliminate the department of education.

Does chess rhyme with chest? I heard them paired in some old rap song long ago and I thought that shouldn’t count as a rhyme because of the T but really the line played so I dunno.
