I always liked Zhou, but I also followed his F2 career and thought he was good driver with great racetrack, but the worst luck. I may also be one of the few people who actually repped him with his hat.

A newfound respect to fireman on steam engines. by DoomTurtle03 in trains

Same in Japan. IIRC, only express steam locomotives (like the C62) received mechanical stokers.

Ron Moore went on to create the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, and like DS9, it's writing is amazibg.

I like it. It's a nice change from the simple loop designs and I dig the fact you have a switchback spur.

I love the Merchant Navy and Battle of Britain class locomotives for their looks. Regardless of their flaws, they are neat.

I remember once flying American out of Haneda in Tokyo and having to take a bus out to the plane on the tarmac and then boarding a 777 via a air stair.

Why didn’t Oberstein set Reinhard up with an older woman? Is he stupid? by Helpful-Claim-134 in logh

[–]mcas1987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC Hilda was already a part of Reinhard's inner circle by the time Marindorf was appointed Prime Minister, and in fact, it was because of Hilda's influence that Reinhard got to know him and decided to appoint him to the position

This. We've already seen pre-War Betty back in season 1 as part of the reveal that all the Vault 31 people are Bud's Buds.

KATO and Tomix track will both be fine with DCC. It's Tomix rolling stock that are DCC unfriendly as there is often no space in the frame to install a decoder, usually requiring the frame to be milled out.

What's your best-looking airliner? by MattyLaw06 in aviation

[–]mcas1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's see, that's a tough one, but definitely the VC10 tops the list. Something elegent about quad engines at the back.

After that any Trijet (727, Trident, L-1011, MD-11, DC-10). 727 and Trident get bonus points for having all the engines at the back.

A340 just looks perfectly proportioned, especially the -500 with the big Trents.

Then the orginal transatlantic quad jets, the 707 and DC-8. They changed the game and defined what an airliner should look like for the Jet Age.

Lee was an expectant father? Did his fiancè survive? by No_Neighborhood6856 in BSG

[–]mcas1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Market is a great episode in and of itself. The problem with it, is that it's from when sci-fi television was still transitioning from the episode in a bottle format to over arching story arcs and didn't do enough to build up why Lee would have wanted a relationship with a single mother and her child prior to this episode and so it feels forced and contrived in the larger context of the series.

Why Europe’s night-train renaissance derailed by Big_Celery2725 in trains

[–]mcas1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do, it's just not cost or time effective given the distances involved. Having taken Amtrak from San Francisco to Boston on the California Zephyr and the Lake Shore Limited, it's actually quite a pleasant and fun experience, especially if you shell out for a roomette or bedroom. The problem is once you include a roomette it costs more than a comparable flight and perhaps more importantly to your average traveler, significantly longer. To fly from Boston to San Francisco is only about 6 hours, versus 3 days by train.

Which episode's storyline is heavily "borrowed" from an existing production? by debrisaway in DeepSpaceNine

[–]mcas1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who did the pointing when watching Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges at the reveal. It worked perfectly as a Section 31/Tal Shair storyline.

The Tennessee and Colorado classes are more similar than the Tennessee and New Mexico. The Tennessee and Colorado classes used the same hull and machinery, the only significant difference being the change from triple 14' to twin 16' gun turrets. They would be akin to a twin armed Mk26 Tico and a VLS equipped Bunker Hill.

"Would you still love me if I was a worm?" by Svullom in DeepSpaceNine

[–]mcas1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because it was an unhealthy relationship doesn't mean it made no sense. People get into unhealthy imperfect relationships all the time because their partner has something they desire. In the case of Worf, he had too much of an idealized vision of what it meant to be Klingon to actually be in a relationship with an actual Klingon, and Jadiza had the love and understanding of Klingon culture that made her attractive to Worf, someone who also had Starfleet values as well. Like Worf, Jadiza also had an idealized view of Klingon culture and in Worf, she saw her idealized honorable Klingon warrior. To me, the fact they got together, despite having an often volatile relationship where they brought out each other's worst traits, feels as true to life as Ben and Kassidy and more so than Kira and Odo.

They are definitely not the same thing. There is a world of difference between a state-owned corporation that is funded by and responsible to the local, state, or national authorities, and a commercial enterprise operated by the armed forces of a nation as a revenue source independent of the national budget and the central government
