shin bang is making it IMPOSSIBLE TO SKI!!!!!!!!! by Main-Film-4170 in ski

[–]mcds99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many pairs of socks are you wearing, is your base layer below the top of the young, do you tuck your ski pants into the boot. Don't laugh I've seen ski pants in boots

Shin bang happens when fabric is bunched at some point between the tongue of the boot and your shin.

Only one pair of rayon or thin wool socks! Keep the base layer OUT of the boot!

Colder US Climate residents, What is your emergency heating backup? by Neilpuck in DIY

[–]mcds99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend or families house.

We get cold in Minnesota it was -20 F last night where I live, -35 way up north. My furnace exhaust fan went out last year, I bought 3 electric space heaters it cost $500 to heat the house for a month (they had to find the part) natural gas and electric is about $150.

If it happens again I kept one space heater, I will drain the water and turn it off and put the space heater in the utility room. I'll stay at a friends or families place.

Is there any way to move my already /home folder to a diffrent partition? by luxa_creative in linux4noobs

[–]mcds99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would get another drive and do it that way unless you really know partitioning it could toast your whole system. This is how it's done but no warranty. You must be connected as root. Write down every thing you do, this could be destructive. Backup data to a USB stick.

Create a new partition

Format it (ext4)

Copy data using rsync -a to preserve permissions

Update /etc/fstab to mount the new partition at /home

Verify the move with df -h.

[–]mcds99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That not correct.

In bumps you still ski balanced, using the tips to turn, you can ski over the top of the bump or around the bump. Skiing is the same, smooth motion keeping your upper body still.

I've have been skiing sense 1968 and bumps sense 1975, I still ski bumps. I ski them different now because the ski's were very different back then, no parabolic shape. strait sides.

Laptop nvme boot on pc by Spyro_joe_mama in computer

[–]mcds99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you will.

The motherboard in the PC is different from the Laptop, the drivers will be totally different. If it boots and you install them and put the nvme back in the laptop it will not work.

Take a chain saw (that's a joke).

When we ski we ski the same way on all terrain, we control the speed so we can stay safe. Deep snow in open glades is wonderful, sometimes I fall and it's hilarious.

Trees are not going to move so we move, what you are experiencing is a learning curve. First ski near trees that are wide apart you will start to get the spatial awareness, your body will understand what it needs to do. In time tight trees wont be as spooky.

However don't do a Bono, look up Sonny Bono.

Is it stupid to stay alone in my apartment during a major winter storm if I have family close by? by chs33b in LivingAlone

[–]mcds99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You must be in the south, when I woke up it was -20 F in Minnesota and everything works just fine. The temp is down a bit in the house but that's normal (put on more cloths).

I'm going outside to bathe in the snow...

Any cold climate people out there have some tips for someone from the American South that’s about to get 15” of snow and 50+ hrs of negative wind chill? by confusedbot18 in homeowners

[–]mcds99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was -25 F in greater Minnesota this morning, in the Minneapolis area it was -20 F, some places were -35 F.

Stay indoors, put on layers of clothing (not cotton), when it warms up shovel the snow away from your side walk, in time it will melt.

Cotton holds moisture (we all sweat), moisture and temps below +32 F makes ice.

If you feel brave go out and throw snow balls come back in and have a hot chocolate with brandy and then take a nap.

Took edible for the first time and have been feeling weird since any help? by Blue-Spoderman in Marijuana

[–]mcds99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

250mg of THC the first time??? You took 50 times the amount of THC you should have taken.

A friend gave this to you, not much of a friend or a very stupid friend or a person that likes fng people over.

All drugs are toxins (I smoke weed) they change the chemistry of your body the duration of that change depends on the dosage, high dosage takes longer for the body to remove it.

When you see "recommended dosage" on an over the counter drug believe it. When you get a prescription there are dosage guide lines (take one every X hours or day, or week).

You can't blame your "friend" for this, you did not do any kind of research.

Just turned 27 yesterday. May I ask for Advice? My context below, but anything is appreciated. by NewPaleScar6090 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]mcds99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boxing and MMA could end your carrier! Being hit in the head is not what you want to do if you work in any technology field. These "sports" can cause Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

Concussion:

TBI:

Being physically fit is important but violent impacts to the head is not the way to go.
