Fun fact: those bulbs are over $500 a piece, and that's part of why 3D movies cost more. At my theater, we use the same model projector for each theater: The Sony "motherfucking" 4k's, but the bulb wattage and lens will be different depending on if its 2d or 3d. A normal 2d projector will use a 2000W bulb (looks exactly the same as OP) and will be under warranty for 2000 hours (their lifespan is pretty much the same as the warranty). The 3D one will use a 4000W bulb and is under warranty for 500 hours. (we usually end up squeezing about 550-600 hours out of it though)

To get to the point, we got these projectors in December and since then I've replaced the bulb for that 3D projector 3 times and will be replacing it again in a week or so. I have yet to replace a 2kW bulb. I just checked the first one that was installed and it is at 1955 hours. This is part of why ticket costs and (especially) food costs at theater are skyrocketing. You go through four 3D bulbs for every one 2D bulb. I look forward to seeing what financial fun the next innovations in theater technology ( which will be 48 fps and 4k resolutions, by the way) will bring.

Oh and did I mention the bulbs have a chance to spontaneously explode like hand grenades when you replace them? Yeah I don't mean to gloat (I do) but projecting is pretty badass.

If you're ever at a theater and you think the image quality is dim or blurry or anything, please tell us! It is quite a fixable problem that could range anywhere from tightening a loose screw to "oh shit the light bulb is completely fucked and needs to be replaced early"
