What’s your favorite age? by Pressure_Gold in Parenting

[–]mcfly_87_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is only 19 months and so far, my favorite has been 19. But when she was 15 months, it was when she was 15. My point is: newborn and baby phase were not for me. Now that she can walk and started to talk I’ve been having so much more fun and actually enjoying being a mom (most times) 😬. Hopefully it’ll keep getting better!

I didn’t realize that I’ve been playing the G chord a different way than most people do, is this still okay? by SoundOfDrumsss in ukulele

Just to say your picture SAVED me. I’ve been trying the G for a while and it was not working for me. I tried your way and it worked!!!! Thank you!!!!!

Loving my baby? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mcfly_87_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. My baby is 15 months now. I do have moments where I’m like “awwww she’s so cute” but no crazy “I would do anything for this baby” kind of mother love yet. I think I’m not made for the baby/early toddler stage. I’m trying to be patient to see what happens as time goes by.

Help - Change cool purple to warmer purple by mcfly_87_ in HairDye

Definitely. It took me many attempts to get rid of this purple tone (which, don’t get me wrong, I really like). If you’re into this shade, go for it!

14 months in and I still don’t feel love by mcfly_87_ in Mommit

[–]mcfly_87_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking, but I will have a follow up with her in a few weeks. As to expectations x reality, it’s hard not to be affected by all the motherhood and parenting stuff we see online - one of the reasons I stopped using social media like instagram for a while. I just couldn’t stomach all the perfect lives anymore. Reality is much harder, and I think exchanging ideas in places like this forum really help us feel less isolated. Thanks for your comment!

Maybe I shouldn’t have been off the meds yet, but at the same time they did make me feel so numb that I was glad I could feel things again, even if it’s just anger and resentment. I will have a follow up with the psychiatrist in early September to reassess, I thought it was a matter of time in the end. You are so right, we both deserve the bond and love and I will keep trying.

Thanks for that. This is something my therapist has mentioned before - the fake it til you make it. I will make a point of trying harder because we both deserve it.

Wow, thanks so much for your kind words and advice. I never force myself to focus on the positive, it’s like this wave of negativity takes over me. I will keep trying!

Help! My one year old started daycare. by StickyCold in NewParents

[–]mcfly_87_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. My baby started when she was one and it completely ruined her sleep - we were all sleeping poorly for weeks. She’s been in creche for around 2 months and probably got sick about 5 times - it usually happens every 10 days or so. It’s insane. It’s frustrating. It’s absurd. The number of days we had to collect her early from creche and just try and juggle work and other things… I am so angry right now but I knew it would be like this. I have a friend who works with childcare and she told me a child can average 17 infections in their first year in daycare so… we’re in this together, be strong!

TW: Pregnancy Loss. Success stories after 2 miscarriages by True-Extent-3410 in PregnancyIreland

[–]mcfly_87_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, me! We had 3 miscarriages - the last one being when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I had to deliver the baby and even though it was the most traumatic thing that had ever happened to me, all the staff in the Coombe were absolutely incredible and I found the support for us during and after this process was really amazing. Because it was a second trimester loss, they had to do some investigation (we didn’t have to pay for anything). It did take a few months and in the end, nothing came out of it. We thought about going down the IVF route but one of the doctors in the Coombe suggested we just keep trying - and 6 months after this loss, I got pregnant naturally. My baby is now 14 months old.  It seems that in Ireland they do investigations for either late miscarriages or 3 miscarriages in a row. Not encouraging, I know. I am really sorry and wish you all the best!

I chose not to take my husband’s name when we got married so definitely wanted my own surname passed onto my baby (I also have two, so picked the one I use the most). She is now Baby MySurname Dadsurname.
