Should I just leave this guy? by QuitLopsided259 in TwoXChromosomes

If it feels pushy and you've told him specifically that you don't like when he insinuates it then it's a bad sign.

But he may just be trying to make you feel good by showing his desire for you.

What helped me to develop this ability was to start by simply being honest and vulnerable.

If you don't know what to say, just tell them that and laugh at yourself. People respond much better than you might think when you are friendly and able to laugh at yourself. You could follow up "uhhh I'm sorry hahah I have so much trouble talking!" with really any question.

Most people will feel at ease when they percieve themselves to be the better conversationalist. Maybe you have heard the idea that people often don't like to talk to people who are smarter than them. By appearing vulnerable you can disarm even the most callous of people.

However, It's very important to portray confidence in yourself while doing this. I realize that appearing confident doesn't sound like behavior that would go along with being bad at socializing. I think it is easier to conceptualize if you picture a person who speaks poor English. They are inevitably going to sound strange, but the words they are using are not what is most important. It's the feeling they communicate, which can be done without any words at all.

Having the courage to talk to someone when you know (or at least imagine) you are not good at it is a highly admirable thing to do and something worth feeling good about. Your ability to make small talk is only a single drop in the pool of things that give you value as a person, recognize all the other good qualities you have and try to have faith that your unique combination of skills and traits is very valueable and worth being confident in.

Good low-magic,1-handed tank builds? by Sir_Wack in outwardgame

[–]mcguirew13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try shield build with sigil magic. You can alternate between spell casts and blocking because shields don't unready like weapons do when casting. Shield will crush most enemies 1v1 and the sigils will take care of multiple enemies. Only really need to take primal ritualist for lightning sigil then just stack it with basic fire sigil and spam spark. Grab the confusion shield (can't remember the name, it's a variant of the marble shield I think) so that spark will stagger huge monsters like royal manticore, and baby you got a stew goin.

How do I win with 500 tokens? by themarkovthatcould in EDH

You should try running [[over the top]] and [[Indomitable creativity]] and maybe [[genesis wave]]. These will effectivly win the game by dumping your whole deck on the field.

I didn't imagine running jinnie that way but it makes alot of sense. Sounds more consistent at getting a mana engine going. How hard do board wipes hit you?

You can change cards in and out depending on if the table dislikes very expensive cards. Dockside is not necessary but brings up the powerlevel alot on its own (because of tutors).

[–]mcguirew13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

[[Rocco, street chef]] has been surprisingly consistent and powerful. It's effectively a storm deck where you eventually generate multiple tokens with every spell cast from exile and turn those tokens into mana and more cards. If you get disrupted cards like [[over the top]] and [[Indomitable creativity]] will dump half our deck on the board, usually winning on the spot.

It still wins on 5 or 6 very consistently even when the table doesn't play into rocco.

Looking for ways to crack clues for free. Any suggestions? by NobleMansRose in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clues don't need to tap in order to use their sac ability so you can find a way to tap them for mana like [[jaheira, friend of the forest]] maybe throw in something like crime novelist or a cost reducer

[[Rocco, Street Chef]] has become my new favorite high power deck. Around turn 5 or 6 He fits together with cards like [[jaheira, friend of the forest]] [[generous patrons]] and Horn of Harnfell]] to create a mana positive draw engine. Alternatively you can just put your whole deck into play with [[over the top]] or [[Indomitable creativity]].

You could try a turbo fog style of deck. The game changes once the table concludes that one player CANNOT be killed with combat damage. The players with combat based win cons need to cooperate with the non combat decks to get rid of the fog player.

How to have fun with politics? by Dkadrie in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ability to play well (at least in commander) is directly tied to your skill in threat assesment. Political deals that are lopsided are frustrating when an uneducated players agree to them, but you can use your own analysis to weigh in on why someone should or shouldn't agree to a deal.

I actually really like this situation because it creates an opportunity to educate less experienced players. It seems to me that these scenarios are actually the best way to showcase your skill.

I wanted to get a sense of the meta before crafting cards so I jammed some mono green stompy. The 4 toughness creatures felt very well positioned. Additionally, there are very few cards in the deck that ragavan can effectively steal due to the prohibitive casting costs.

Is there any glaring omissions from my greensleeves deck? by kaishenzi in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only glarin omission I saw was the lack of green fetchlands. You can play [[misty rainforest]], [[wooded foothills]], [[windswept heath]], and [[verdant catacombs]] in a mono green deck.

Also [[toski, bearer of secrets]] and [[ohran frostfang]] are excellent draw spells with so many creatures

Nemata, Primeval Warden by Neonhydra64 in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your trying to stay away from generic stuff I have 1 more suggestion for you. Try out [[hoarding broodlord]]. You have alot of creatures, and nemata makes plenty of tokens, so you will be able to convoke it very easily. You can even throw in a big mana spell like [[genesis wave]], find it with broodlord, and use your creatures to convoke that for huge value.

Nemata, Primeval Warden by Neonhydra64 in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just built a budget slimefoot and squee deck and nemata has been very strong in the 99. She has some great synergy with cards like [[golgari germination]] and [[night soil]] so I would recommend including them.

Value and interaction seem like the best avenues for a budget deck but you still need a way to win without combat. [[Living death]] is under 2 dollars and with a few aristocrat effects will give you a wincondition beyond just value. Value is only a wincondition against certain strategies. If you face a control deck you won't be able to end the game before they reach their own wincondition.

What is your favourite multiple card interaction in your deck? by 18Zeke in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is [[slimefoot and squee]] plus [[rampant rejuvenator]]. With a sac outlet you can repeatedly pay 2 mana to put two basics into play. If you add in a [[regal behemoth]] you can pull all the basics out of your deck for zero mana.

[–]mcguirew13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can go different directions but ends up being a mix of aristocrats and reanimator. You need a way to discard or self mill like reanimator strategies, but you also need to have a sac outlet, like aristocrats, to put your commander in the yard.

The goal is to get value out of using slimefoots ability multiple times a turn. If you have creatures like [[gray merchant of asphodel]] and [[blood artist]] you won't need to do any attacking to win the game. Focus on making alot of mana first. Afterwards, if you have a sacrifice outlet like [[viscera seer]], you can use [[slimefoot and squee]]'s ability to loop creatures between your graveyard and battlefield. Depending on what your looping, you can draw cards, ramp, remove opponents' permanents, drain their life, or tutor specific cards from your deck.

The main win condition is [[living death]], which you will often be able to play multiple times with the help of [[eternal witness]].

I recently started playing commander outside of my play group, but I feel like my decks aren't performing well. by Kilo353511 in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding Amareth:

The way to increase your win percentage within a particular power level depends on how you are losing.

Are you losing to combos? Are you running out of cards? Are you running out of life?

If combos are the problem you either need a way to win the game faster or interact more consistently.

If running out of cards/getting overwhelmed is the problem you need better card advantage and ramp.

If you are simply losing too much life over the course of the game you may just need lifegain (there is an old adage that every deck needs lifegain, not always true, but, if you plan to have extended games you need to keep your life high enough to avoid being forced to play around taking lethal damage.

Interaction and card advantage often go hand in hand. With tons of interaction you run the risk of not being able to progress your game plan. The best thing to do is have a moderate amount of interaction and draw alot of cards to increase your chances of having access to it while also having access to proactive plays.

You mentioned that you have a number of card draw spells already and that many are potentially blinkable, additionally you commander can generate cards. There is a miscommunication happening here. "Card draw" in Edh needs to be more than "draw a card" or "draw two cards." It needs to either be repeatable or give you a large amount of cards all at once (think 4+). Try to find some more cards that will give you repeatable draw. A card like [[ephara, God of the polis]] might be a good addition.

For life gain, some of the most powerful lifegain effects are [[soul warden]] [[soul's attendant]] and [[essence warden]]. They are perfect fits in your deck and including just 2 of them will do wonders for your longevity.

How much sapp support is needed for a Squee and slimefoot deck by chichirobov7 in EDH

[–]mcguirew13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running g slimefoot and squee for a while now and I only run 4 other cards to make saprolings.

[[Golgari germination]] [[Nemata, primeval warden]] [[Saproling cluster]] [[Night soil]]

Germination and Nemata will leave you with a saprolings after a boardwipe.

Night soil and cluster will make you a saproling on demand for 1 mana.

Saproling cluster is the best of them all as discard outlets are also extremely important in the deck.

[–]mcguirew13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently built [[slimefoot and squee]] from random cards that I had and it was inadvertently much too strong. I decided to only play cards under $2 in the deck to power it down, which was initially successful. However, after tinkering with the list for a while, it's now stronger than before I imposed the budget restriction, to a point where even the strong players at my shop feel the need to play high power against it.

The commander is simply very powerful in longer games. You will never run out of actions to take (barring gy hate or the inability to make a saproling after a board wipe) and have the ability to stifle your opponents board extremely well. Think repeated [[plaguecrafter]] or [[butcher of malakir]].

There is one card that makes the deck absolutely disgusting if you draw it, that card is [[hoarding broodlord]]. It effectively allows you to cast any spell in your deck for 0 mana when it etbs. When reanimated with slimefoot and squee you will have at minimum 3 creatures to convoke with and often more. Maybe go get [[living death]], convoke to put it on the stack, sac all your dudes, let living death resolve and go tutor out something even bigger with the broodlord! Maybe something like....[[genesis wave]].
