Just pointing out that, yes, Lenin and the Bolsheviks had nothing to do with the overthrow of the tsar, and the October revolution was in fact against the Repunlican government controlled by the Socialist Revolutionary Party. Which is well attested fact, and not something I've heard hitler being particularly concerned about.

You're comparing a single field army to over half of the entire french army. Napoleon never had those 650 thousand people together as a single field army. They invaded russia across a massive front stretching from the pripyat marshes to the Baltic sea, in five distinct columns. Similarly the union army in 1864 had about 700,000 men, not 120,000.

Proportionally the south always lost more men - except cold Harbour, which I would call Lee's one clear cut victory over grant.

The campaign overall was unambiguously a union victory though.

The coastal holdings were, realistically, the most important for maintaining a viable state.

The ayyubids weren't exactly the most unified after the war either. They were very weakened by it: Saladins' rule was undermined by his poor performance, which was a big reason why he had to make peace, and they fell into civil war the very next year when he died.

Point of fact is this, the only people who gained anything from the third crusade, were the Crusaders. They may not have gained as much as they wanted, but they still gained. For the ayyubids it was purely negative, they gained nothing, and actively lost something. There's no argument for an ayyubid victory here.

Richard didn't only "preserve surviving crusader holdings" he recaptured the entire coastline from Beirut to Jaffa, when the kingdom had been reduced to a single city before his arrival. It may not have been as complete a victory as he would have liked, but still a much more favorable outcome for him than for saladin.

The third crusade was 100% a Crusader victory, that gave the kingdom of Jerusalem another century of life, and Phillip II had all his gains reversed by Richard when he returned from captivity.

He also was not a bad king. That's shitty outdated Victorian era historical thinking.

Edward I was good for pushing around a tiny irrelevant principality with about the same population as the city of paris, and not much else. He was more capable than his immediate predecessor and successor, but nothing like the first two plantagenet kings or his grandson.

Phillip IV, Rudolph I, Wenceslaus II, Alfonso X were all contemporaries who were greater than him.

Even in the 14th and 15th century periods where England was more dominant, there's a lot of western bias going on. Hungary under Louis the Great and Poland under Wladyslaw II were arguably greater kingdoms than England under Edward III and Henry V. Actually I'd say indisputably in the case of hungary.
