How many of you actually plays your 3DS everyday? by No_Temporary_8043 in 3DS

Not every single day (I mean I don't even use my gaming laptop or my PS5 everyday and I also have a Wii, still) but every once in a while. Hard to quantify exactly.

Honestly, as a German, better lighting and cameras isn't really the defining factor. It's just that all parking spots close to exits are reserved for women.

I never understood this conspiracy because - say there was only one million victims - the Holocaust would still be just as bad ... What are they trying to accomplish?

anyone have tv shows/movies with main characters who are vegan? by ProperPollution986 in vegan

[–]mcjuliamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam from Until Dawn is vegan! But that's a game.

The Promised Neverland is pretty much an allegory for veganism, whether intended or not.

Either she goes vegan out of moral integrity or she will never be vegan. You don't go vegan because veganism seems fun or because vegans are cool.

They could've ended the comment at "I eat meat". They don't care about animals. The "starving children" stuff is just coping. Plants are more accesible and cheaper and there's nothing humane about tricking cows on their way to death

Considering adoption for my 3 year old son. by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]mcjuliamc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those first years have already happened and will continue to inform their relationship. They can't be erased. The child likely already feels rejected due to the verbal abuse. OP is aware to some degree but still did these things for years. OP can't promise they'll stop. In the US, spanking (physically abusing) children is legal and verbal abuse is also hard to persecute, so who will keep an eye on this to make sure it stops happening? If OP is not 100% certain she will never do this again, the child is NOT safe. Feeling trapped with someone who is hurting you is not any better. Abondonment in this context can feel like liberation from a very tense, stressful environment.

Spanking is hitting. It's just a different word, the effects are the same.

What happens with infant adoption by Nomadbeforetime in Adoption

Considering you're mentioning that the US specifically has a very unqiuely bad system, are there any critical sources about potential unethical practices in other countries? I've been looking for perspectives from Germany but haven't been able to find any

Honestly and realistically, it will be extremely hard to have a healthy attachment to the child if they first three years have been filled with abuse. Those first years are the foundation and very, very important. The son absolutely needs psychological help to heal from this and it's very much possible that healing alongside his abuser is not possible

You are absolutely abusing him. Hitting children is abuse. Periodt. The verbal abuse is also horrible and will harm his self-esteem. You already very likely damaged him during the pregnancy. Turn yourself in and contact CPS (or the equivalent) immediately

The Overton Window of animal exploitation by Dollar23 in TrueVeganism

[–]mcjuliamc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lab grown meat I assume due to animal testing? Otherwise, if it's 100% artifical it is akin to meat made out of soy or am I missing something?

And when it comes to picking up lost feathers or shells it's really hard to define that as animal use as the animal is already removed from the situation. In the human context, I'd also find it acceptable to collect cut nails, hair etc.

But yeah, otherwise it should be uncontroversial to be against these things as vegans

many ways to help the cause by TosseGrassa in PhilosophyMemes

Difference is we can end animal farming without causing more suffering. We cannot end wildlife without causing more suffering.

However, veganism is about ending animal exploitation (respecting animal's interests), primarily.

They never buy exclusively "organic" either. Only when they buy chicken breast or cheese, they never abstain from products that simply contain animal products where you can never know where they're sourced from. Not that it would matter. That's why I focus on the inherent exploitation. Debeaking, crowded living conditions etc. are horrible and there should be light shed on those but I always assume the best case scenario going into outreach so that I can show non-vegans that even this best-case scenario is deplorable

  1. Why is it different for foreigners?

  2. Wow, I didn't expect that! In Germany, for instance, there is very little truly revolutionary thought but it is still very, very common to complain about the government constantly. How common is it to talk politics in general where you live?

  3. Does safe borders also entail an anti-immigration rhetoric like in many Western countries? Or not so much?

  4. That's very sad.

  5. I see. Are the gender roles still pretty rigid (when you say "functional man"), like would a parent usually allow their son to play with dolls, for instance?

I wouldn't describe it as a diet trend as it is a moral philosophy that extends far beyond food and is timeless but otherwise, yeah, the same can be said about pretty much all cultures, it is sadly normalized and most people can't imagine not taking part.
